So crashing out here are mainly newbies which hadn’t made the semi-finals before; ‘Final Song’ takes the bottom spot, however did manage to gain a top ranking along the way. ‘Charlemagne’ was actually in last place for pretty much the entire vote until the last few hours saw a number of points go its way to finish at 73. There are some big drops here though; ‘Slide’ finished at 39 in its semi last year, however drops to 74, ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’ also suffers a big drop, falling 27-53. In this section Lana loses 1 song each from her hattrick of songs which made it into this semi with ‘Mariners Apartment Complex’ finishing at 47, whilst Taylor loses 2 of her 3 songs as ‘willow’ finishes at 59 and ‘cardigan’ at 44. Shout out to ‘Luna’ which was heading for a much lower position until it gained 74pts from 3 top rankings and a 2nd place in the last 4 votes which really helped to propel it up the chart, however it wasn’t close enough…

Some close votes here with the song’s that just missed out! ‘God is a Woman’ gained an automatic spot in the final last year, however this year didn’t make top 5 in its group and just misses out of securing a finalists position here. We also lose 3 Calvin Harris; Sweet Nothing finished 8th in its Semi last year, however drops quite steeply this year. Also a big drop for ‘Sorry’ which finished 3rd in its Semi last year however drops 26 places to outside qualifying for the final. There are a number of songs here which did look set to qualify for most of the match, however come the flood of the last 8 hours dropped out of contention; ‘Head and Heart’ was top 25 for the first half of the vote, similarly ‘Adore You’ and ‘Spectrum’ looked set to qualify but didn’t really benefit from the late in-flux of votes.

A lot of fresh faces making the cut this year, ‘Take Me To Church’ tops the semi-final, it only made it to 32nd place last year and failed to make the final, however seemed unstoppable by midway through the vote. Similarly ‘Pray to God’ just missed out last year in 26th place, however rises 18 places into the top 10. There are songs here which directly made it through to the final last year; ‘212’, ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and ‘Lean On’ all made top 5’s in their heats last year however this year had to take the long way round. We also have artists doing doubles; Adele claims 2 spots in the final in 6th and 7th place, Lana del Rey sees ‘West Coast’ and ‘Rise’ get finalist spots, the former missing out last year in 41st place. Avicii also gains 2 spots in the final with ‘Levels’ at 20 (a rise from 25 last year) and ‘Wake Me Up’ which surges from 54-15 to claim a finalist spot. There’s quite a mix of songs in here with Dance, pop and indie all making gains and claiming finalist positions.
