Ed did 84K by Monday so doing 92K in day 1 is pretty good

sure theres a lot of missing data from incomplete orders

unlike Ed, ABB has a crazy fanbase that will buy multiple formats and all existing vinyls and cassettes

Ed only did 11K on vinyl so clearly he doesn't have the hardcore collector fanbase

What a difference a week makes for your comments on here….

I KNEW THEY WOULD FLOP!!! I put a higher prediction in the end as everyone was sayin I was loco etc, but I SAID from the START that they are a smaller band than the Spices. The Spices barely cleared 250k first week with their most recent album, called Spicy Ones GH, so it stands to reason that Abba, a smaller band than the Spices, would pull in smaller numbers!!!! :cheeseblock: :smug: It's basic science!
One thing I noticed in my local Tesco is that they have a display as you walk in the door for the ABBA CD so it will catch the interest of the casual buyer who’s out just to do their food shop. Something they didn’t do this time with the Ed Sheeran album. They did with Divide and even No.6 so not sure why they didn’t think it was worth it with Equals.

Abba and Adele. Doing it for week after week on the trot qould have been too much.

I’m probably giving an opinion here but for me ABBA are bigger than the Spice Girls if that’s what your debating. Abba songs are so culturally embedded with so many people whereas for me anyway the songs for the spice girls were not as good. Just my opinion though!

Wat? Spive Girls were the biggest band since the Neatles. And whilst they were never THAT big, they were still bigger than Abba, and their songs are ingrained in the newer generations! That's the difference.

I predicted 120-140k

Those pre order numbers were too good to be true. Same with what happened to Ed and his little Sheerans going around saying the album was pre ordered 600,000 times and more than Divide! Maybe pre saves but that doesn't mean anything. Totally inflated numbers to create hype

I think the Mamma Mia films mean the ABBA songs are the same. My 13 yo niece knows all the ABBA songs by heart but barely knows who the spice girls are but I guess it’s different for everyone

Exactly, before Ed's release I thought he had the fanbase to do multi buying but he clearly hasn't as we saw last week

My 10-year-old niece and 7-year-old nephew both love ABBA. They've watched the Mamma Mia films about a dozen times and also own ABBA Gold. Neither of them has any idea who the Spice Girls are. Is the Spice Girls' GH album a mainstay in the UK album chart? No. Is it still in the top 20 years after it was released? No. It still hasn't sold anywhere near a million copies after 14 years.

Unlike Mamma Mia, the Viva Forever musical (also produced by Judy Craymer) was a critical and commercial flop. Between their music, the MM musical and the two spin-off films, it's clear ABBA continue to find a new audience with each generation. I was fifteen when ABBA Gold had a resurgence in 1999 when the Spice Girls started to flounder after only two albums. Many young people in my generation became fans of ABBA at the turn of the Millennium, and kids today are now experiencing the same thing.

Indeed and you thought he had done rubbish but maybe all the big names will underwhelm compared to what we all thought….

The sales are stellar for Abba as they were for Ed.

I said it previously but have we seen the last of 400k+ opening weeks in the current climate, also with supermarkets retracting totally on physical formats it takes away that impulse market and loses the market that don’t stream or use online shops.

I agree I think both sales are stellar but funny the different reactions from the usual suspects on here!
We don’t even know what ABBA’s first week sales will be yet and already people are calling it a flop. Crazy! It’s still got one of the biggest ever preorders!

Exactly there could be missing data for all we know!

Even if not, while it might end up totalling lower than some of our expectations based on the 110k preorder figure but it’s still on track to be the biggest selling album since 2017, a huge success.

It definitely did not do 110k pre-orders in the UK #InflatedNumbers

You should introduce the Spice Girls to them. I'm sure they will love them. B-)

Id say the 110K pre-orders is correct

but a % of those might not have been shipped cos they are not complete

ABBA will do well with supermarket sales but I'm cautious now after Ed's sales last week but think ABBA should be close to 200k.
