What kind of things are you referring to Iz, rather not do a Google search on the band name! Cheers

Last year in the debate topic about the previous song, another poster, who I haven't seen since, made a rather strange point of condemning people who buy any of Kunt's music because he made a few joke songs in the past that for them crossed the line of immorality. Despite those songs getting a miniscule fraction of the attention the campaign song got and being years old. He kept it up over the whole thread to the point of obsessiveness. It's stuck in the mind so much that my first thought on seeing this guy again is to be sarcastic about that.

I believe the 'dark past' was unfunny edgy shite (quelle surprise of course) involving Savile or something similar. But that doesn't stop this song being a legit political message of course, outside of the music being trite.

DOCTOR WHOOOOO, DOCTOR WHOOOOO, THE TARDIS....

At least they've put it to different music, I was expecting the exact same thing again.

why'd he go and set it to the tune of a song from Gary Glitter of all people though :| can't even ironically support that.

Yeah I thought that was an odd choice. I suppose from the video it’s supposed to be a parody of The KLF’s β€œDoctorin’ the TARDIS”, but Glitter is still credited as a writer on that.

Though for what it’s worth, Glitter doesn’t receive a penny from royalties of his work anymore, he sold the rights a few years back.

It's probably a calculated choice to make it as unpalatable as possible to people. If you're at all familiar with Kunts work it's the kind of thing he'd do.

Yeah i'd guess it's meant to be more of a riff off the KLF than Glitter and the whole thing is designed to cause moral outrage anyway (although without actually earning Glitter a penny off the back of it as you say).

I think it's reasonably amusing, especially knowing that sections of right wing political press will be getting their knickers in a twist about it just like some of the left wing US media outlets will have been busting a blood vessel over 'Let's Go Brandon' sitting on Billboard for all of a fortnight. It's not as if it's actually gonna go to #1 or obstruct a serious record's progress when the whole chart will be infested with old Christmas songs in that week anyway.

Egh. I feel like Gary Glitter's music should really just be left in the dustbin of history at this point regardless of the point being made by choosing to use it or whether he earns anything from it or not. Felt the same about the use of one of his songs in that Joker film. Surely there are better choices.

Agree that anything associated with Glitter is best consigned to the dustbin but as I say i'm pretty sure it will have been chosen deliberately since the entire record is provocative and i'm pretty sure it is meant to be a nod to the KLF more than anything. But yeah on reflection it is quite a misstep.

Β

I'm still not convinced it will chart anywhere near as highly as the last one did anyway, regardless of what music it is put to.

Turns out recent events means that the title is still likely to strike a chord with people, I wonder if that would make more people get on board this year?

That's exactly what I was just thinking, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets higher than #5 this time. I imagine he's got to be gutted that LadBaby ended up releasing this year after all.

yeah I’m fully expecting it’ll do as well as or even better than last years effort now with the Christmas party scandal fresh in people’s minds. and the fact that there’ll be ten remixes (as per Kunt’s reply on Twitter)

Β

LadBaby being competition will only fuel him and the supporters to campaign even harder too.

Β

LadBaby has had his day 3 times already and we don’t need Ed getting yet another #1 single.
