Happy Go Lucky:

Things pick up again after a bit of a down point. This was one of my instant favourites when hearing the album for the first time. I wanted so much for it to be a single. I still holds up now for me as a great album track.

Buzz:

Another instant favourite upon hearing the album. I use you imagine a music video filmed inside a 'futuristic house'. I went off it for a while but I'm back to really enjoying it again.

Here And Now:

I was a little disappointed when this and 'You'll Be Sorry' were announced as the singles as I had others I wanted to get the single treatment. It's a nice enough song and I can see why it was chosen but it's not one I go back to a lot. I use to love this video though.

Paradise Lost:

The missed single for me, I'd have paired it with 'Happy Go Lucky' or 'Buzz' over 'Here And Now/You'll Be Sorry'.

Anyway this is not what I was expecting when I first heard this song but it just works so well. It'd have to be up their for my favourite album track from their 97-01 time.

Turn Around:

The other song I was obsessed with from 2006-10, and more so when they reformed in 2011-2. There's just something about it that I really like, I can't quite put my finger on it.

Wouldn't Hurt So Bad:

I sense I'm in the minority here but I really like this song. It really spoke to me for a while and I connected so much with it and I think that's stuck with me.

If You Believe:

Another one that's gone up and down in my affections over the past 20 years. It's really nice and I love Faye's voice too. It's a nice close to the album

BONUS TIME

Human Touch:

This was track 16 on the Australian edition of the album released in July 2001. I'd never heard the song until picking up the album and I instantly thought it was amazing. I prefer it to the songs in the middle section of this album.

So listening to this everything felt out of order for me, then I realised the Australian track list order for this was different. In my opinion it worked much better for the album too, but that may be because it's what I'm accustomed to. Here it is:

1. Stomp

2. It's The Way You Make Me Feel

3. Buzz

4. Here And Now

5. Happy Go Lucky

6. Summer Of Love

7. Better The Devil You Know

8. You'll Be Sorry

9. Learn To Love Again

10. Never Get Over You

11. Hand On Your Heart

12. Paradise Lost

13 Turn Around

14. If You Believe

15. Wouldn't Hurt So Bad (Bonus Track)

16. Human Touch (Bonus Track)

Thanks for hosting Jamesy, this was great fun and very enjoyable to go back and listen to this.

Jamesy, re video linking, the wonderful Tafty explained this to me a while back.

Anyone can embed (providing the first sign up measures are set - I think you have to post a certain amount of times before being allowed etc..)

You take the digits and letters after the "v=" in the YT URL code and wrap them in YT tags..

Hopefully this helps. :)

This brought back memories of me buying the album. I remember thinking it'd never get released here then finally in July 2001 when I was out shopping and went up to the top level of Myer there it was sitting in the new release stand! I don't think I knew it had a different cover or track list but I was so happy to finally have it.

Also I remember picking up Here And Now/You'll Be Sorry from a local Sanity a few weeks later and the lady serving me said 'Oh I didn't realise Steps had a new song out'. Is it any good?' I said yes and so she put it on to play throughout the store. :)

Good to see your comments Run for cover :) Happy to see Paradise lost’ should’ve been a single from you as well. Oh, Human touch is great! 8.5/10 for me and should’ve been included on every version.

Thanks Globalfunq, it really should’ve. Just like Just Like The First Time was on the Australian version of Steptacular.

Not that I’m gloating or anything, haha. The Sugababes could al,ost make an album (ok EP) out of UK only tracks on their albums. Lol.

With buzz I was initially slightly disappointed with the album as I didnt like it as much as the 2 previous albums but I still liked the album.Since they reformed and I re visited all the older material buzz grew on me alot and I enjoy the album way more now.
Been great reading some of the replies in here. I didn't appreciate this album so much back in the day however over time I have grown to appreciate it so much more. I much prefer this to Steptacular now. My reviews to follow...

1. Better the devil you know...

Love this song when it is performed live however it isn't one I choose to listen to on record. Although I did not know the Kylie one at the time of release I have since obviously heard it and much prefer Kylie's version so if I was going to listen to it I would listen to Kylie's. Worked well as a double a-side to Say you'll be mine though and it goes off live in concert!

2. Stomp...

Amazing I love this song always have done always will do. It's such a bop the only downside s that it could have another chorus at the end, otherwise it's pop perfection! One of my favourite Steps songs.

3. Summer of love...

This song passed me by a little when it first came out, weirdly I much preferred When I said goodbye which is one of the few Steps singles I have no time for anymore. This however has turned into another song I love! It's so catchy, the harmonising is gorgeous and I really think the lyrics are great. It is such a great song for summer too I enjoy driving around in my car listening to it (yes and singing along as loud as I can).

4. It's the way you make me feel...

One of the best Steps songs ever! Totally gorgeous, love how every member gets a solo moment, love the lyrics, the chorus is just gorgeous and the video is also one of their best ones. This is another one of their songs that always hits it live and is a stand out moment in the show. Glad it out performed Stomp as it is the superior song, deserves to be one of their best sellers.
