December 13, 20213 yr Lipstick is great, though a bit too recent to have made my list this year I will be charting Never Going Home. Watch Your Step I also enjoyed a fair bit last year. Discotecque it was a fun performance and song on the Eurovision stage but didn't work so much for me in audio only form, last year's effort of theirs was much better. Young Right Now another decent track from Robin Schulz. Sad Song, now that must be the only Gareth Emery track that you like more than I do :P
December 13, 20213 yr Hey Pete! growing up is getting old and Little Bit of Love are my favourites so far. No arguments with that hatechart #1 though MONTERO and abcdefu were both top 10s in my chart! :kink:
December 13, 20213 yr "Little Bit Of Love" was one of my best discoveries on OCC Top 10. It gave me a lot of hype when Calvin Harris announced a collaboration with Tom. I like the chorus of "Lipstick" as well, it's so memorable. Not sure if I'd put this on my upcoming charts.Â
December 14, 20213 yr Hi Pete again! From your worst list, I agree with "Wid It", "2k17" and especially "Way 2 Sexy", even though I like "abcdefu" and "MONTERO" (I'm a Christian or Catholic, I don't know, but I'm one of these religions and I like the song, even though I never watched the music video ever and I probably never will, but I get why you don't like this song.) I do like your Mainstream Song of the year being "Seventeen Going Under" and seeing "Trouble" (hopefully a future 2022 hit for me), "Regarde-moi" (my least favourite from the 3 Kungs songs he released this year, but still good), "Cinema" (fantastic italian summer song, discovered it even before the BJSC due to listening to italian radios), "Die guten Zeiten" (which was a special song for a german channel during the European Championships), "Young Right Now" (currently liking it, could make my Year-End list next year), "Little Bit of Love" (will make my Year-End list this year), "Lipstick" (liking it a lot, has a good chance to make my Year-End list next year) and "Discoteque" (will make my Year-End list this year too) in your Year-End list. Like your list so far!
December 15, 20213 yr Author 160: The Knocks - Sound the Alarm (ft. Rivers Cuomo & Royal & The Serpent) 630pts NE (07/08/2021) 50-47-43-38-35-35-31-34-41-58-72-88-xx The Knocks racked up quite a set of hits this year featuring a variety of acts, this was one of the lower peaking offers but certainly stuck around long enough in my chart to consider it one of the songs which defined the year. 159: JAMICA - Run Like A River 635pts NE (06/11/2021) 17-15-16-19-30-49-... Another recent one here, this ballad-y track from German singer JAMICA was very instant with its gospel-choir-inspired vocals. Apparently it was featured in some TV show (Grey's Anatomy?) so if you watch that you may recognise it! 158: KIDDO - My 100 637pts NE (05/06/2021) 34-31-34-44-49-55-57-65-60-67-75-73-80-76-83-86-xx I discovered this song a bit before I actually charted it and just passed it by but it kept coming back to me and it eventually made my Top 40. Another example of a slow-burner with a long run in the lower echelons of my Top 100. 157: JUNG - Sweet October 640pts NE (13/11/2021) 33-32-28-32-38-... One of JUNG's better offerings this year, they're yet to match 'Polar Bears' but this very much has a full-effort-mainstream feel to it which is quite nice. 156: Bipolar Sunshine - ANSWERS 641pts NE (18/09/2021) 28-28-27-23-27-30-32-38-51-66-90-xx Bipolar Sunshine has been absent from my charts for a few years but this was worth coming back for! A very nice song, and I'm slightly annoyed that whenever I try and hum it in my head I end up with 'Stay' by The Kid LAROI  155: Ball Park Music - Sunscreen 650pts NE (06/11/2021) 45-41-38-36-29-32-... Ball Park Music's only offering in my EOY this year, it's certainly very different from 'Day and Age' but has grown on me quite a lot since I first heard it. Even though every time I hear the chorus I'm convinced he's going to say a naughty word! 154: Tom Speight - Soak Up 659pts NE (19/06/2021) 32-38-44-48-45-47-48-57-59-62-68-65-71-83-99-xx Tom Speight is another artist who managed a massive resurgence in my Top 100 this year - this was his second charting song in 2021 but stuck around for a decent while, a very cheery song if you're in need of one! 153: Dizzy - Beatrice 663pts NE (09/01/2021) 43-20-15-12-12-18-29-59-72-76-92-xx A song I discovered in RabbitFurCoat's EOY this time last year, Canadian band Dizzy certainly charmed me with this song that will forever remind me of a cold winter in Wiltshire! Quite minimal but it works very well. 152: Daði Freyr - 10 Years 666pts NE (29/05/2021) 4-10-12-13-18-22-35-54-82-94-xx This is no Think About Things but it's still catchy enough and had me dancing around perfectly happily during the Eurovision period. I also found out from my mother's assumptions that saying the name 'Daddy freyer' without giving the spelling makes him sound like an American rapper from the 00s :P 151: Amongst Wolves - Voices 672pts NE (06/03/2021) 17-20-20-19-21-24-31-46-59-66-86-xx Not the song I sent to BJSC this year but the same band, this one is very heavy and focusses on the theme of suicide. 150: Alec Benjamin - Older 676pts NE (24/09/2021) 4-5-8-12-17-28-46-67-83-99-xx I know this is quite low given the song debuted in the Top 5 but it just wore off on me quite quickly! Plus it's quite a sad song about how Alec doesn't want to grow older, which I'm sure we can all relate to... 149: Ten Tonnes - Forget It 679pts NE (19/07/2021) 23-24-22-22-25-32-37-46-56-67-88-xx One of the songs from Ten Tonnes' EP this year, Forget It was quite low-key but took me back to the indie music of the 00s in a very pleasant way. 148: Haloo Helskinki! - Lady Domina 680pts NE (28/11/2020) 63-44-55-52-43-53-41-38-41-45-56-63-64-58-72-82-90-90-97-99-xx Long chart run alert, but almost certainly a result of the song charting in Jamuary when very few people were releasing new music. It was good to hear new stuff from my BJSC Masquerade entry, and this swing-pop song is very catchy even if I don't know what any of it means. 147: Newsboys - Magnetic 684pts NE (14/08/2021) 27-24-26-40-47-54-55-47-54-65-80-84-98-97-89-100-xx I had paid no attention to Newsboys up until this year, but when I heard this on the Billboard Christian countdown I couldn't keep leaving it be! It is very funky, very modern sounding (despite the fact the band have been going in various incarnations for over 30 years!) and easy to sing along to. 146: Sam Fender - Long Way Off 688pts NE (06/11/2021) 64-64-36-35-25-24-... I think this is just an album track (it was reccomended to me on Discover Weekly) but it's a good enough song in its own right and complements Seventeen Going Under very nicely (although it actually more similar to 'Spit of You') 145: Sigrid - Mirror 690pts NE (12/06/2021) 54-48-42-39-38-32-31-29-35-41-57-72-87-99-xx A real shame this missed the Top 40, this kicked off another fantastic era for Sigrid who is one of the few pop artists I have absolutely no qualms listening to over and over again. 144: CoCo and the Butterfields - K.O.T.C 698pts NE (09/01/2021) 13-15-18-22-30-36-41-48-70-84-88-99-xx This was released on an EP from late 2020 which I didn't discover at all until 2021, a version of it was actually released years before but it's such a powerful indie-rock song that it certainly deserves a position here. Definitely worth a listen! 143: Positive - You Are Everything 700pts NE (13/03/2021) 73-40-27-29-27-30-31-37-44-50-58-86-xx The second and last of Positive's tracks here, this one is very much a ballad compared to 'More Than Good' and takes a few listens to get into (as I'm not sure the backing vocallists are fully in time?) but is a beautiful song to listen to. 142: Cory Asbury - Sparrows 701pts NE (27/02/2021) 100-75-42-39-34-32-30-32-35-45-49-56-73-xx It's a shame this song isn't higher, because the chart history doesn't do justice to how much this song has been on my mind this year. I wouldn't call it 'catchy' but it's an earworm, it has a brilliant message and the lack of a 'power chorus' makes it one of those songs I can go to again and again without fatigue. Every time I hear someone mention sparrows I automatically start singing this song! 141: Youngr - Boy From Manchester 726pts NE (22/05/2021) 18-24-24-29-33-31-33-36-48-61-73-85-92-xx Who knew that Youngr was from Manchester? This has quite a decent ska-infused beat and tells the story of his childhood through a decent electro-dance beat. KPiDtK-XC9s NnNz-dCbzRw
December 15, 20213 yr Author Still Love The Roop and Watch Your Step, both high in my YE Chart Look forward to seeing where the pair of them land there! Thanks ^_^ Lipstick is great, though a bit too recent to have made my list this year I will be charting Never Going Home. Watch Your Step I also enjoyed a fair bit last year. Discotecque it was a fun performance and song on the Eurovision stage but didn't work so much for me in audio only form, last year's effort of theirs was much better. Young Right Now another decent track from Robin Schulz. Sad Song, now that must be the only Gareth Emery track that you like more than I do :P Agree that On Fire was a lot better than Discotheque but it was a decent enough effort from them. I do really like Sad Song, a shame it didn't get you as much as it did me! And lots of dance songs you're a fan of as well - thanks Dan! Hey Pete! growing up is getting old and Little Bit of Love are my favourites so far. No arguments with that hatechart #1 though MONTERO and abcdefu were both top 10s in my chart! :kink: Glad you're enjoying these tracks! A shame about the MONTERO/Gayle but I still dislike them as much :kink: Thanks Joseph! "Little Bit Of Love" was one of my best discoveries on OCC Top 10. It gave me a lot of hype when Calvin Harris announced a collaboration with Tom. I like the chorus of "Lipstick" as well, it's so memorable. Not sure if I'd put this on my upcoming charts. Interesting to see you dicover songs from the UK Top 10! I guess those songs aren't as popular elsewhere? (I guess I do similar with the German download chart so makes sense) Hope to see Lipstick on your chart as well - thanks ^_^ Hi Pete again! Ah I guess I never really realised Die guten Zeiten had been released for the Championships! Doesn't stop it being a decent song though. Hope all the other songs you mentined will make your EOY also - thanks Sergej! Little Bit of Love is still sounding stunning to me. love Tom Glad you're still loving it - I'm delighted he's finally managed a big solo hit  Thanks Adam!
December 16, 20213 yr From that section I only know Daði Freyr, Sam Fender and Sigrid's songs, but all great ones - Long Way Off is a definite highlight of Sam's album for me! The two you've linked probably aren't what I'd normally listen to but they sound pretty nice actually ^_^
December 16, 20213 yr Here are my favourites from your latest section: 152: Daði Freyr - 10 Years, my second favourite song from the ESC this year, will be in my Year-End chart too. 148: Haloo Helskinki! - Lady Domina, the song that got me obsessed with this band, they are so talented and amazing! And this song will be in my Year-End chart too, last year's christmas #1 for me! 146: Sam Fender - Long Way Off, great to see Sam Fender on here, even though it's not my favourite song from him from the album. 145: Sigrid - Mirror, really like this, wish it would've been more successful in my chart.
December 17, 20213 yr Author 140: Rag'n'Bone Man - Crossfire 733pts NE (08/05/2021) 29-27-22-30-26-27-28-40-53-58-68-77-78-98-xx The Best of Rag'n'Bone Man's offerings this year, this one is fabulously fast paced and bring his brilliant vocals to the fore. 139: Luz - counting houses 734pts NE (24/04/2021) 41-23-10-11-12-21-31-47-56-59-76-91-xx Luz looked to be getting a second big hit after her late #1 from last year 'the author' but this was unfortunately stopped in its tracks by Eurovision and never really recovered. It gets its five seconds of fame now though as it's a beautiful little song which reminds me of walking down the canal back in Wiltshire. 138: Zuzu - Timing 736pts NE (24/09/2021) 38-21-19-21-23-25-28-34-50-70-83-94-... Zuzu came back into form this year with two songs that caught my attention, and this is the first of them. Showcasing her fabulously Scouse accent alongside a rousing chorus, this grew on me after release and pushed its way into my Top 20. 137: Kungs - Never Going Home 735pts NE (28/06/2021) 61-40-39-34-36-42-48-60-59-60-48-53-64-85-87-78-95-94-xx The highest of Kungs' entries in my EOY, I didn't get on board with this immediately (the vocals seem a tad ropey) but it grew on me a lot and is one of the best summer dance songs to come out this year. 136: Andreas Moe - Hey Lulu 744pts NE (30/10/2021) 8-10-12-14-23-39-52-... I discovered this little guitar-strumming-y song late in the year and imt became one of a series of tracks which debuted high but then fell away quite quickly. Definitely worth a listen if your into low-key songs though. 135: Bakermat & Nic Hanson - Walk That Walk 752pts NE (03/04/2021) 25-21-18-17-16-16-21-30-51-67-84-94-xx Bakermat went funky this year! The high-pitched vocals are pretty nice but the drop is something that is very difficult to match and made me very much a fan of this one. 134: James Newman - Embers 754pts NE (29/05/2021) 6-7-13-15-20-19-26-37-48-69-94-xx I would say this didn't deserve nul points at Eurovision but sadly his vocals weren't the most pristine even though he's a fantastic songwriter and this song in itself is really good. 133: Amy MacDonald - Statues 757pts NE (27/02/2021) 36-44-43-49-55-56-46-42-47-47-50-53-59-75-85-86-90-xx This one definitely suffered from 4th-single fatigue when I first heard it which contributed to its modest chart peak but both the tune and the lyrics resonated with me a lot and led to another larger-than-expected chart run. 132: Roosevelt - Lovers 763pts NE (20/02/2021) 27-21-24-26-27-31-33-39-50-60-70-73-76-94-xx Three plural song titles in a row :o Lovers are probably better than Embers or Statues (for a start, you can't talk to the first two!) This was one of a few decent Roosevelt singles to come out this year, and whilst it never realised its potential for a Top 10 it is still a very solid track. 131: Vance Joy - Missing Piece 765pts NE (29/05/2021) 38-30-28-24-26-27-28-29-42-50-71-72-83-xx Anyone else completely forget Vance Joy released anything this year? If you played me this song I would definitely have said it was from 2018/19 time unless you gave me the information. It's nice enough anyway even if it's not on a par with We're Going Home! 130: Larkins - This Is Gonna Hurt 776pts NE (28/08/2021) 48-39-32-23-24-24-30-35-45-50-58-63-75-92-xx I discovered Larkins from BJSC and was eager to hear more, however the band suffer from an inability to not swear so this was the one track I could really get into. It is a really good one though that grew on me as I listened to it. 129: THE ANXIETY - Meet Me At Our Spot 780pts NE (02/10/2021) 82-75-73-49-35-25-24-31-33-43-56-... The second highest Top 40 hit from this year (you heard right, it's only gonna get more obscure from here ;)), this is a lot more pleasant than the angry-girl-full-on-guitar music that has been the theme of 2021 and actually has a tune that's worth listening to! 128: Dotan - There Will Be A Way 798pts NE (12/12/2020) 25-18-20-22-25-28-27-30-37-51-60-76-96-xx Dotan has been quietly racking up Top 40 hits here without me really knowing anything about him although this is another nice one from him with his voice really complementing the melody. 127: Roosevelt - See You Again 803pts NE (22/05/2021) 45-49-39-36-31-27-29-30-33-40-45-54-67-79-98-xx The second Roosevelt song in this countdown, this and ‘Lovers’ are very much interchangeable both in terms of sound and chart run. This is dance-y enough with Roosevelt’s signature synths making it all that little bit better. 126: Sara Kays - Struck By Lightning (ft. Cavetown) 809pts NE (14/08/2021) 39-35-32-34-37-35-43-44-46-50-54-59-66-77-78-88-xx Cavetown is another act who seems to have hit hard days in my chart – he’s mostly reverted back to covering songs which haven’t made much impact – but this is a slice of pop that really caught on with me even though it’s not the sort of music I’d usually be into at all (I can’t imagine Sarah Kays managing many more hits here!) and managed to stick around longer than I initially imagined. 125: CoCo and the Butterfields - Crash and Burn 811pts NE (30/01/2021) 15-13-16-17-22-28-28-31-40-53-53-78-88-xx CoCo avec Butterfields released two EPs in quick succession last year, this being the lead single from the second of them. It didn’t stand out as much as the other two new songs from the EP did but it was decent enough and reached the Top 20 in slow-moving January.  124: World's First Cinema - Red Run Cold 814pts NE (27/02/2021) 32-29-25-23-24-23-23-29-34-44-56-70-87-xx I’ve tried to get into more of World’s First Cinema’s stuff but they don’t seem like particularly Christian band so I’ve stayed away :( This song is decent enough though, a slow but full-bodied track which is very easy to get into your head. 123: Blackfield - Under My Skin 824pts NE (27/03/2021) 54-42-37-38-33-35-34-35-41-59-65-69-67-67-72-75-85-90-97-xx British-Israeli duo Blackfield came out with this early in the year, which grabbed me enough for me to put it ono my playlist but not enough for me to fall in love instantly. It was very much a slow burner though and continued to stick around on my playlist for many a month after I first charted it. 122: Lukas Graham - Happy For You 830pts NE (22/05/2021) 13-28-17-18-14-16-15-21-31-46-68-92-xx Somewhat surprisingly this is the highest of Lukas Graham’s solo offerings this year :o This was decent enough and racked up quite a few weeks in the Top 40 but definitely misses the magic that made me fall in love with them in the first place :( Let’s hope he gives the band more free reign for future singles! 121: Blessing Offor - Brighter Days 833pts NE (06/11/2021) 8-8-11-17-28-36-... I first got into Nigerian-born Blessing Offor when I heard his track ‘Tin Roof’ on the Chris Tomlin album and have been looking forward to new music from him since. Finally he released this joyful gospel-inspired tune which immediately struck a chord with me and was exactly what I was hoping he might release. Here’s to him getting more popular!  mSSyaXtbAms wNgAtyvrAwU
December 17, 20213 yr skimming your video clip recommendations: Magnetic - now this sounds very good-tier Eurovision so makes complete sense for it to pop up in this countdown Boy from Manchester - quite interesting lyrics and got a good beat to it the other two, not-so-much for me. and from what I knew already Mirror and Never Going Home are both also in my year end list.
December 18, 20213 yr Embers was alright, but not surprised how badly it did. It really stood out at Eurovision and for all the wrong reasons.
December 19, 20213 yr Hi Pete, here are my favourites: 137: Kungs - Never Going Home 735pts (Will definitely make my Year-End list, it's a banger! Also, did you know that Martin Solveig has uncredited vocals in this, he sings the song!) 134: James Newman - Embers 754pts (Did not deserve nul points and last place in my opinion) 129: THE ANXIETY - Meet Me At Our Spot 780pts (Really great rock song) Great list so far.
December 21, 20213 yr Author 120: Alesso & Marshmello - Chasing Stars (ft. James Bay) 834pts NE (28/08/2021) 30-14-14-14-18-17-16-23-28-51-71-85-98-xx Marshmello always does better than I expect him to, although I've noticed his songs all have a drop which is a little underwhelming given how fantastic the build-up is! It would almost certainly have been Top 100 if it had one but as for how it is this is still a very respectable position. 119: Torul - Resonate 835pts NE (30/10/2021) 57-33-25-20-15-18-21-... Torul have been absent from my chart since their BJSC entry many years ago but I finally caught up with them at the end fo this year thanks to a Personal Chart with this song on. It's very good and certainly makes me want to gget back into them! 118: James Smith - Got the Love 835pts NE (14/08/2021) 19-10-10-11-13-15-22-29-41-56-64-87-xx Ex-BGT act James Smith suddenly started shooting up the iTunes chart with various songs this year, which reminded me of his existence. This is definitely a pop song despite the guitars but is a really cheerful and uplifting piece that's well worth a listen. 117: Jakub Ondra - Pitstop 836pts NE (24/07/2021) 55-36-32-35-40-49-60-64-75-69-50-50-59-67-69-78-93-xx The only Czech contribution to my EOY this year (although coincidentally I've got a few Czech songs lined up for my Personal Chart in the coming weeks!), this is one of those instances of a song that really deserved a higher peak and got a long Top 100 run as compensation. Still sounds very good now! 116: Armand Van Helden & Riva Starr - Step It Up (ft. Sharlene Hector) 838pts NE (13/02/2021) 34-33-31-34-32-35-37-44-43-44-48-53-59-65-85-xx Another song that could have done with a higher peak, I'd been aware of this song for months before I finally decided to chart it but it manages to cram a smooth dance beat together with a vocally powerful performance from Sharlene Hector. 115: Sarah Reynolds - WILDERNESS 838pts NE (16/10/2021) 10-13-23-19-20-27-40-51-63-... This is a fantastic song. Whilst it does sound a tad Disney-musical-esque on initial listen, the lyrics are incredibly strong and focus on the narrative of the singer struggling with God in her life before finally admitting that He is by her side at all times. It's another song that's kept me going through 2021! 114: Greta Van Fleet - Heat Above 847pts NE (01/05/2021) 75-63-52-51-55-43-40-38-36-37-37-46-58-57-68-79-89-xx RE (09/10/2021) 74-82-93-xx We do love all-male bands called Greta don't we  I'd never paid much attention to these guys before but added a song from their album to my weekly listen playlist as a courtesy but was very much blown away by it! The vocals are just so powerful and an appearance in BJSC just highlighted how good it is. 113: Stephen Stanley - Oasis 848pts NE (01/05/2021) 17-9-8-9-19-22-33-43-54-63-73-84-xx Ironically I didn't get into Stephen Stanley's big song 'Oasis' at all but I really liked this one. As with a few songs it suffered from the Eurovision takeover, if not for that it may have pushed its way into the Top 100. 112: Newsboys - Clean 848pts NE (24/09/2021) 37-25-24-25-27-27-29-35-45-57-61-72-... Another wonderful song from Newsboys, this is pretty similar to Magnetic but had something a little more to it that gave it a little longer in my chart. 111: Alfie Templeman - 3D Feelings 856pts NE (27/11/2021) 13-12-12-... Again, this song could be a bit higher next year but in case this is it here it is! The second Alfie song to make my chart, it's incredibly funky and will likely grow on me again after Christmas. 110: Imagine Dragons - Easy Come Easy Go 858pts NE (24/09/2021) 45-39-32-33-34-33-36-44-55-65-71-62-... This didn't sound particularly great on first listen but it's definitely a grower and led to me subsequently adding it to my playlist. It's both an earworm and quite an emotional song with a verse about an old friend who had cancer. 109: The Wombats - If You Ever Leave, I'm Coming With You 858pts NE (28/08/2021) 33-41-48-48-53-53-59-34-25-21-26-30-49-71-86-91-... The highest offering by The Wombats this year (Method to the Madness charted lower thanks to its less-than-savoury language), this is pretty standard Wombats but still a very good indie track. 108: R3HAB - Most People (with Lukas Graham) 860pts NE (27/11/2021) 8-8-17-... Lukas Graham have made a move with dance songs this year! Here we have their most recent offering with DJ R3HAB, Lukas' voice works pretty well on this and the fiddling in the dop is pretty nice as well! 106: Only Sun - Thinking of You 863pts NE (03/04/2021) 19-14-12-13-14-14-19-21-40-46-58-85-95-xx Only Sun have been back to their best this year after a few years off - I'm running out of words without repeating myself but this is a good song, listen to it ;) 105: Roosevelt - Strangers 865pts NE (19/12/2020) 57-71-52-50-43-36-29-27-29-31-34-41-47-62-70-84-85-95-xx The third of Roosevelt's moderately-sized hits this year, this is pretty similar to the other two but still very much worth a listen! (still not decided on who just misses out on my Top 100 so that'll come later!) Rt0Q7-Xs6SY qZ_3JEEemao
December 21, 20213 yr Author From that section I only know Daði Freyr, Sam Fender and Sigrid's songs, but all great ones - Long Way Off is a definite highlight of Sam's album for me! The two you've linked probably aren't what I'd normally listen to but they sound pretty nice actually ^_^ Thanks for taking the time to give the songs a listen! Long Way Off really is a tune as well - thanks Ansel! Here are my favourites from your latest section: 152: Daði Freyr - 10 Years, my second favourite song from the ESC this year, will be in my Year-End chart too. Look forward to seeing where Lady Domina and 10 Years appear in your chart! Thanks Sergej ^_^  skimming your video clip recommendations: Magnetic - now this sounds very good-tier Eurovision so makes complete sense for it to pop up in this countdown Boy from Manchester - quite interesting lyrics and got a good beat to it the other two, not-so-much for me. and from what I knew already Mirror and Never Going Home are both also in my year end list. Thanks for taking the time to listen - I can see Magneic/Youngr being more your thing so glad you enjoyed them! Thanks Dan ^_^ Embers was alright, but not surprised how badly it did. It really stood out at Eurovision and for all the wrong reasons. The song itself is very nice, I just wish some more effort had been put into the performance! Thanks Adam ^_^ Hi Pete, here are my favourites: 137: Kungs - Never Going Home 735pts (Will definitely make my Year-End list, it's a banger! Look forward to seeing where Never Going Home is as well then ;) Thanks again Sergej! Definitely love "Happy For You"! Glad you do - it's not near my favourites from them but decent enough. Thanks Cow Cow!
December 21, 20213 yr Older is my favourite Alec song of the year, extremely relatable and a bit of a gut punch for that reason! Meet Me At Our Spot, Chasing Stars, 3D Feelings and 10 Years are my other faves to have appeared!
December 22, 20213 yr checking out the Torul and Roosevelt songs from that section as I did enjoy their BJSC songs, these two are rather interesting too, I do find myself quite liking this sort of indie-electronica when it pops up in the contest. Heat Above was a pleasant surprise from BJSC, a great rock ballad there that wouldn't have fell on my radar otherwise. Step It Up is a great dance tune too of course, which made my EOY Top 200 last year.
December 22, 20213 yr Author 105: Bright Sparks & John Gibbons - Real 876pts NE (05/12/2020) 31-20-15-22-17-24-24-23-28-35-49-59-70-84-86-98-xx One of the many songs which was initially in my Top 100 but has sadly had to be pushed out, this is a fab uplifting dance track from two artists I've been vaguely aware of but not followed obsessively. 104: Amy MacDonald - Bridges 876pts NE (22/05/2021) 72-xx RE (12/06/2021) 89-89-57-45-41-35-37-30-28-26-27-36-45-52-63-84-98-xx As with the other post-album Amy singles this year, it took a long time for me to finally convince myself that this was worth more of my time than just one week in the lower realms of my chart. As with most of Amy's other songs, it's very catchy and, after I'd finally got it into my head, I was very happy to keep coming back to it. 103: Self Esteem - I Do This All the Time 876pts NE (29/05/2021) 50-36-30-21-24-28-32-39-43-47-56-68-80-99-80-84-93-xx Prior to this year, the only thing I knew Self Esteem for was her fairly mundane vocals on Django Django's 'Surface to Air'. Come to BJSC then, when I clicked on this song and found it was almost entirely spokern word I was a little shocked. If I'm honest I might not have ranked it so highly on first listen if the 30+ songs before me hadn't been as not-to-my-taste as they were. But as I listened to it again, it soon rose very clearly above the other songs in its final and became one of the best songs to come out of BJSC this year. It really is a fantastic song! 102: The Snuts - Somebody Loves You 889pts NE (06/03/2021) 21-18-14-13-16-9-17-22-29-40-54-70-xx The first of two Snuts entries this year, again it's a decent enough indie track that got a boost into the Top 10 after the album release and certainly piqued my interest with regards to the band. 101: Michael Patrick Kelly - Throwback 889pts NE (10/07/2021) 95-36-33-24-27-22-22-23-20-27-29-48-61-71-88-xx Aaand just missing out we have Michael Patrick Kelly with yet another earworm with 'Throwback'. The beat is fairly infectious and I was into the song before I'd even playlisted it - it would've been nice to give this a Top 100 spot but sadly only 100 songs could have that honour, so something had to miss out :( D_xTYHMIT1k
December 23, 20213 yr I decided to check out the Snuts song because I've heard a lot about them but never heard any of their music. I wasn't really digging it unfortunately. It was a lot lighter and breezier than I was expecting. Â I remember 'I Do This All The Time' being quite decent though. Â 10 Years was probably one of the better Eurovision tracks this year too :)
