Does it hold up?: Yeah, this is still a huge euphoric anthem every time I go back to it but I haven't actually done that as many times as I should. It deserves more spins than it received from me this year.

Can't say I've listened to Rain on Me much this year! It's still a decent song even if it's a bit poppy for my tastes.

Does it hold up?: This is still a huge tune. Chloe (sans Halle) obviously had another banger this year that is sure to do well again here.

Does it hold up?: This was my first #1 on the new decade and I with me spamming it right at the beginning of the year and then it becoming a massive hit, I did start to find it a tad overplayed. However, it's already starting to worm it's way back into my affections. Doja's had another good year but this still remains her strongest.

Does it hold up?: Yeah. Eminem's best for years! There's still a few corny lyrics here and there but the flows are immaculate and intricate and show why there are few rappers who have ever been as talented with a mic as Em.

Does it hold up?: This is still a banger but as far as Ariana lead singles go, it's not absolute top tier. This has still picked up plenty of spins this year but it was the 2nd single that made the larger impression on me.

5. Blackpink - How You Like That

 

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: This has been largely overshadowed by Lovesick Girls and their solo releases from this year. If I were to re-rank based on my listens from 2021, this wouldn't really be close to the top 10. I recently got a new laptop that is actually capable of playing YouTube videos in 4K without exploding so I just watched the video in 4K for the first time and it looked great :o

As much as 'Positions' was a massive song at the time, Ariana's two eras a year apart have sort-of merged into one for me and so I regularly forget this one was a thing!

Does it hold up?: This was the song that Little Mix needed to get back on track after an underwhelming 2019 but with all the drama with Jesy and the constant stream of new music, this one has been a little left back in the dust this year. It's still a great, perfectly-on-trend pop song though.

Does it hold up?: This has been slightly soured by the whole Jesy situation but the video is still knock-out and the song itself is pretty electric. Not a bad final official #1 for Little Mix at all.

2. Ariana Grande - 34+35

 

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: 100%! This has still been on heavy rotation all year and even bagged another week at # 1 in my chart after the Meg & Doja remix. The video remains one her best and the song is just as sexy as ever, even with the slightly OTT lyrics.

1. Blackpink - Lovesick Girls

 

 

 

 

Does it hold up?: Yes. I would say that the lead in which it was my favourite song from 2020 has only grown this year. This is Blackpink's best ever song in my opinion and it was criminal that it could only scrape a solitary week in the top 40 at #40. Absolutely the perfect pop song ending with such a rapturous crescendo where they all perform the final chorus in unison before Jennie sings the final line by her own that leaves you just begging for more. It's always a challenge for me not to spam the replay button as soon as I reach the end.

I haven't listened to Lovesick Girls this year but the fact I can still remember how it goes a year after its one week on the chart means it must be quite good! My opinion on '34+35' hasn't changed though :kink:
