I haven't listened to Lovesick Girls this year but the fact I can still remember how it goes a year after its one week on the chart means it must be quite good! My opinion on '34+35' hasn't changed though :kink:

It deserved so much more than 1 week.

Thanks Pete :)

Album Chart

6. Summer Walker - Still Over It

Highlights - Ex For A Reason, Unloyal

7. Kacey Musgraves - Star-Crossed

Highlights - Breadwinner, Simple Times

8. Dave - We're All Alone In This Together

Highlights - In The Fire, Lazarus

9. Kanye West - Donda

Highlights - Jesus Lord, Jail

10. AJ Tracey - Flu Game

Highlights - Bringing It Back, Dinner Guest

Flu Game was highly anticipated from me and while I wouldn't put in at the same level as his self-titled debut, there are certainly some great tracks to be found on it. Donda would be a 5/5 if it was about 40 minutes shorter. The best songs are absolutely epic but there's too much filler and weaker moments. We're All Alone In This Together is certainly one of the most critically-acclaimed albums of the year and is fully deserving of any and all accolades it receives, but while some of the tracks have some heavy and impactful lyrics, he doesn't do enough with the flows to keep me going back to listening to them over and over again. Star-Crossed didn't hit me that much on first listen but after I went back to it, I started to fall in love. The vocals are so heavenly and ethereal. This has really become a bit of a comfort album for me this year. Still Over It is just pure R&B perfection. Summer is another artist with a beautiful voice and it really shines throughout the slower moments on the album, even if it's the bouncier Ex For A Reason that is the overall strongest moment.

I've not listened to the albums in question but I did listen to 'Simple Times' when the Kacey album came out and was surprised by how much I liked it! The low-key instrumentation of it works well on the song. I suppose I should probably check more of her music out!
star-crossed is my favourite album in your top 10 so far! Kacey's remarkably consistent across all her albums.

Really like Kacey Musgraves's album from your list so far.

Can't wait for your singles Year-End list.

1. J. Cole - The Off-Season :cheer:

Highlights - t h e . c l i m b . b a c k, p r i d e . i s . t h e . d e v i l

2. Maisie Peters - You Signed Up For This

Highlights - Psycho, Villain

3. Olivia Rodrigo - Sour

Highlights - Good 4 U, Deja Vu

4. Tyler, The Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost

Highlights - Wusyaname, Lumberjack

5. Madison Beer - Life Support

Highlights - Baby, Boyshit

Life Support was released on my birthday last year but took another couple of months before it really hit me. Her excellent performance of

is what convinced me to buy a ticket for her upcoming European Tour. Call Me If You Get Lost is not as good as Igor but that's such a high bar that this is still a wonderful, experimental album. The addition of DJ Drama on the earlier tracks really gives it a fun personality. Sour is the album that defined 2021 in many ways and is such a strong debut album from Olivia. My only (small) critique would be that there's many one too many slow ballads. You Signed Up For This came out of nowhere to become one of my favourites of the year and confirm Maisie as an artist I adore. It's not as poppy as the big single Psycho suggests but she was a way with hooks and nice lyricism that makes it stand out amongst it's genre. The Off-Season does what KOD also did and becomes my EOY #1 album. I love Kendrick, but Cole is my GOAT out of the current generation and this is why. Great production, top-notch lyricism and a range of perfect and intricate flows.

Olivia Rodrigo owned 2021 in my chart just as she did across the world. Maisie Peters also had a massive breakthrough year in my chart and gets another #2 after her album ended there yesterday too. J. Cole released my favourite album and followed it with a strong feature on Bas's 'The Jackie'. Tyler, The Creator followed a similar route with a great album and a solid feature. Taylor Swift is the only artist who didn't appear in my album countdown as her two releases were both re-releases but they were both good listens which gets her the final position here.

The main top 100 action will begin on Saturday but until then I will count down the (unofficial) 101-120.

Not heard many of the songs in the 'missed out' section - Dumb Love is the one I'm most familiar with and that's decent enough, I've also heard snippets of 'Keep My Spirit Alive' from the Billboard Christian Chart (Kanye's album has taken over that list for prety much the last half of the year ) although it's not my favourite of what I've heard.

Love #1, #2 and #5 from your top 5 artists of the year!

I can imagine Kanye will keep dominating that chart every time he releases an album if he keeps with the religious focus going forward

Thanks both :)

120. Ghetts feat. Giggs - Crud

Chart Run: 12-18 (2 weeks)

2017 05 KMT (Drake ft Giggs)

2021 12 Crud (Ghetts ft Giggs)

2021 04 In The Fire (Dave ft Fredo, Meekz, Ghetts & Giggs)

Kicking off my countdown is the team-up between two legends in the UK Hip-Hop scene, Ghetts & Giggs. The song is most notable for it's video where it apes the style of GRM Daily's 'Daily Duppy' series with the iconic yellow background. Ghetts is doing all the heavy lifting here, Giggs verse is ok but a little dull lyrically and feel like it goes on for ages.

119. Nathan Dawe & Little Mix - No Time For Tears

2021 04 Kiss My (Uh Oh) (Anne-Marie & Little Mix)

2021 02 Love (Sweet Love)

2021 05 Between Us

2021 01 No

2021 09 Cut You Off

2021 10 Trash

This was far from Little Mix's best singles but still managed to just about reach the official top 20 in what was an tricky time for the group when Jesy had announced her departure. This is very generic, like their other big dance collaboration from this year, but Little Mix always provide the vocals to elevate it above others of the genre.

118. Griff - One Night

Chart Run: 18-17 (2 weeks)

Official Peak: #45

End-Of Year Points Chart Finish: =166

Lyric: Is it 'cause I've been feeling guilty all along?

Griff's Chart History:

2021 02 Black Hole

2021 17 One Night

Only 2 weeks in my chart with a #17 peak is very harsh for this one. I've listened to it more than the short run would suggest; it was just unfortunate that it was released during a competitive time in my charts. Griff will be appearing in the full chart with Black Hole and I'm also excited that I will be seeing her live next year as Dua Lipa's opening act on her Future Nostalgia tour.

117. Normani feat. Cardi B - Wild Side

Chart Run: 8-12-14-19 (4 weeks)

Official Peak: #49

End-Of Year Points Chart Finish: =117

Lyric: I can probably suck a watermelon through a straw

Normani's Chart History:

2018 06 Checklist (Normani & Calvin Harris ft Wizkid)

2018 07 Slow Down (Normani & Calvin Harris)

2019 01 Motivation

2019 11 Bad To You (Ariana Grande, Normani & Nicki Minaj)

2020 01 Diamonds (Megan Thee Stallion & Normani)

2021 08 Wild Side (ft Cardi B)

Cardi B's Chart History:

2017 05 Bodak Yellow

2017 02 MotorSport (Migos, Nicki Minaj & Cardi B)

2018 01 Finesse (Bruno Mars ft Cardi B)

2018 11 Bartier Cardi (ft 21 Savage)

2018 09 Be Careful

2018 08 Girls (Rita Ora ft Cardi B, Bebe Rexha & Charli XCX)

2018 02 Taki Taki (DJ Snake ft Selena Gomez, Ozuna & Cardi B)

2019 05 Thotiana (Blueface ft Cardi B)

2020 04 WAP (ft Megan Thee Stallion)

2020 13 Bet You Wanna (Blackpink ft Cardi B)

2021 08 Wild Side (Normani ft Cardi B)

Normani started off her solo career brilliantly with 'Motivation' but took ages to release a follow-up and seemed to lose all momentum until she released this which was almost universally well-received but left me feeling a tad underwhelmed. Another solid video but this is missing the personality and spark that was evident in Motivation.

116. Maisie Peters - I’m Trying (Not Friends)

Chart Run: 12-15-16-19 (4 weeks)

Official Peak: n/a

End-Of Year Points Chart Finish: =132

Lyric: It's a low when even in my dreams you still don't want me there

Maisie Peters’s Chart History:

2021 01 Psycho

2021 04 Brooklyn

2021 05 You Signed Up For This

2021 17 John Hughes Movie

2021 04 Boy

2021 12 I'm Trying (Not Friends)

2021 10 Villain

2021 19 Elvis Song

2021 06 Song You'll Never Hear (Sarcastic Sounds ft Maisie Peters)

Maisie has had a massive break-through year in my charts in 2021 and I’m Trying (Not Friends) constitutes her first appearance in the singles countdown where she will have a further 6 entries in the top 100. This one was originally written to be part of the soundtrack for Season 2 of Apple TV show ‘Trying’ but Maisie felt it didn’t fit the vibe of the show and kept it for her album instead. She seems to currently be trying to make the bridge of this song to go viral on TikTok and she keeps posting about anyone who makes a video to them lip-syncing it

115. Becky G & Burna Boy - Rotate

Chart Run: 10-13-13-16-16 (5 weeks)

Official Peak: n/a

End-Of Year Points Chart Finish: 113

Lyric: UEFA Champions League baller

Becky G’s Chart History:

2016 03 Sola

2018 10 Mad Love (Sean Paul & David Guetta ft Becky G)

2018 01 Sin Pijama (Becky G & Natti Natasha)

2019 13 LBD

2019 04 Banana (Anitta & Becky G)

2019 01 Mala Santa

2019 04 Peleas

2019 09 24/7

2020 12 They Ain't Ready

2021 10 Rotate (Becky G & Burna Boy)

2021 08 Ram Pam Pam (Natti Natasha & Becky G)

Burna Boy's Chart History:

2019 18 Location (Dave ft Burna Boy)

2019 01 Be Honest (Jorja Smith ft Burna Boy)

2019 15 Own It (Stormzy ft Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy)

2020 04 Play Play (J Hus ft Burna Boy)

2021 10 Rotate (Becky G & Burna Boy)

When I was deciding on the songs to land in my 101-120, I have to admit, I had already kinda forgotten about this one. I think it ended up on some Pepsi advert or something. I always enjoy Becky’s music even if it appears like no-one else in the UK does  Burna’s verse is the stand-out with it’s frequent football references.

114. Summer Walker - Closure

Chart Run: 7-14-17-17 (4 weeks)

Official Peak: n/a

End-Of Year Points Chart Finish: =122

Lyric: Why you gotta hang your love over my head like that?

Summer Walker’s Chart History:

2019 05 Playing Games (Summer Walker & Bryson Tiller)

2019 20 Something Real (Summer Walker, London On Da Track & Chris Brown)

2020 04 Secret (21 Savage ft Summer Walker)

2021 01 Ex For A Reason (ft JT)

2021 02 Unloyal (ft Ari Lennox)

2021 07 Closure

2021 17 4th Baby Mama

Still Over It surprised me with just how good an album it was. The slightly duller moments are few and far between and tracks like this have really helped her bid to be the current queen of R&B. I wouldn’t have really begrudged this a top 100 position but in the end this feels fair.

113. Ariana Grande - Pov

Chart Run: 14-(x33)-3-4-15-15 (4 weeks in 2021)

Official Peak: #19 (in 2020)

Ariana had her quietest year since she debuted in my chart with ‘The Way’ but this was chosen as the final single from ‘positions’ and re-entered here with a top #3 peak after the Vevo Live Performance video was released. This is probably the single of hers I’ve loved the least since at least ‘Everyday’ but its still a beautifully sung ballad.

Kamal’s Chart History:

2021 08 Mercury (Dave & Kamal)

Before releasing the album, Dave made an comeback earlier in the year with element-themed double release Mercury/Titanium. The first to appear here is Mercury which features some unique and calming vocals from Kamal. There was no need for Dave to write bars as good as the ones found in here for a throwaway track that didn’t even make the album.

Little Mix’s last single before their hiatus  The song is still in this week’s chart but I think this will be it’s final week. It’s a nice way to sign out but I think it’s success in my chart is largely due to announcement. This is in fact my least favourite of the new tracks from ‘Between Us’.

2021 16 Sweet / I Thought You Wanted To Dance (Tyler, The Creator ft Brent Faiyaz & Fana Hues)

This was actually my least favourite track from the album on my first listen. It felt like it was too long and meandering but by the 2nd listen I was hooked. If I had to pick a side, I would say I prefer Sweet, but the final verse on ITYWTD is killer. ‘Gone, Gone/ Thank You’ was a great moment on IGOR but this blows it out of the water.

2021 13 Physical

A year after everyone else included it in their EOY charts, Physical finally makes an appearance for Dua here. I wasn’t a fan of this one when it was released but the album has made me really appreciate it and I no longer have any idea why I didn’t love it in the first place. Expect this one to re-enter my charts right around tour time.

2021 10 Adderall (Corvette Corvette)

Here’s one I haven’t thought about since February. I first heard this as it sneaked into the Official Top 100 after Christmas and got the hook stuck in my head. It’s no surprise that Lil Uzi Vert hopped on the remix as it does kinda feel like a BTEC ‘XO TOUR Llif3’ with the turbulent, piercing flow and unorthodox style.

Vory’s Chart History:

2021 13 Jonah (Kanye West ft Lil Durk & Vory)

Jonah is a tribute to 19 year old inspiring musician Jonah Ware who was killed in gun violence in 2020 and originally started as a Vory solo track. And it is Vory who’s part of the song I enjoy the most. You can feel the emotion and meaning in his verse and chorus and while Durk’s verse also feels appropriate, Kanye’s verse just feels a tad all over the place.

The chart run would probably suggest that this should have made my top 100 but I think I charted this better due to the names and not the song. While I admire the writing with the intricate internal rhyme schemes, the repetition of ‘one’ just sounds awkward and off-putting to the ears. Thankfully, he has better from this year.

I don’t know if it’s just in comparison to the absolute dross of what she had released before, but the last couple of songs from TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio have sounded pretty good. She’s definitely working with better producers and song writers. I still never used TikTok so I have no idea what she does in her videos.

2021 06 Burner On Deck (Fredo ft Pop Smoke & Young Adz)

More than anyone in the American Hip-Hop scene to break through in the U.K., Pop Smoke was the most obviously influenced by British artists and he fits in perfectly here alongside Fredo & Young Adz. When asked in an interview who his favourites from the UK are the first two people he named were his two collaborators here so it was a great fit all round.

2021 14 Baila Conmigo (Selena Gomez & Rauw Alejandro)

2021 16 Selfish Love (DJ Snake & Selena Gomez)

I’ve just controversially changed my mind here. This was originally going to be in my top 100 but I’ve just listened to the song I had originally ranked at #103 and decided that it should be in the top 100. Unfortunately for Selena, she is the one to drop out and even more unfortunately, listening again to the 3 songs between 101-103, she actually ranks last out of those so now ends up at #103. Just looking at her chart history, you can see how much I adore Selena but her long-awaited Spanish releases, on a whole, just didn’t do it for me. However, this was the clear highlight from the EP. I'm so sorry Selena

2021 13 Law Of Attraction (ft Snoh Aalegra)

Boj’s Chart History:

2021 06 Lazarus (Dave ft Boj)

We’re now well into the territory where the songs could easily have been top 100. Dave will have 3 entries in that region but only one from the ‘We’re All Alone In This Together’ album. This was a nice change of pace in the middle of that album with a (slightly) lighter tone and a interesting chorus from Boj in the Yoruba language.

101. Kacey Musgraves - Good Wife

Chart Run: 12-15-16-18-20-20 (6 weeks)

Official Peak: n/a

End-Of Year Points Chart Finish: =127

Lyric: Common love isn't for us

Kacey Musgraves’s Chart History:

2021 01 Breadwinner

2021 06 Simple Times

2021 09 Justified

2021 12 Good Wife

In the unluckiest position of the year for 2021 is Kacey Musgraves with ‘Good Wife’. It isn’t all doom and gloom for Kacey though as her other 3 tracks to chart from this year have all made the cut. This was never able to crack my weekly top 10 due to it being such a strong time in my charts but I adore this song. I just find her voice so soothing and would honestly listen to her sing anything now. I need to go back through her past discography now. In the YouTube comments, yolkbread has said “Me a 23 year old man: GOD HELP ME BE A GOOD WIFE!” and honestly same!
