Liang Wenbo has been suspended from attending or competing on the World Snooker Tour (WST) after being convicted of domestic-related assault.

The incident took place in Sheffield last July and the Chinese player, 35, pleaded guilty in February.

The current world number 33 was given a 12-month community order on Friday and will be suspended from the tour with immediate effect.

"We strongly condemn all forms of violence," read a WST statement.

It added that the matter has been passed to the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), which said that Liang "has a case to answer for misconduct under the WPBSA disciplinary rules".

"The charges are that Liang Wenbo's behaviour was unbecoming of a sportsperson and has brought the sport into disrepute," continued a WPBSA statement.

Wales' Lee Walker won the World Seniors Championship after beating Jimmy White 5-4 in Sunday's Crucible Theatre final.

The 46-year-old from Newport - who reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship on his first appearance at the Crucible in 1997 - had never won a trophy on snooker's professional tour.

The coach and close friend of three-time world champion Mark Williams, Walker described his victory as "a career highlight".

"It's a dream come true," he said.

Maflin and Akani not being on tour is quite gobsmacking.

Considering Maflin was ranked in the 20s and reached the World Championship quarter-finals just a couple of years ago, it's even more of a surprise how quickly things have turned around.

But it’s disappointment for Michael Holt sadly who has failed to regain his card through Q School ending his spell since 1998 as a professional snooker player. Let’s hope this isn’t the end for Michael and hopefully he will give it another who next year.

Snooker mixed doubles is set to return to television for the first time since 1991 with the world's top four men and women teaming up in September.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Selby and Neil Robertson will join Reanne Evans, Ng On Yee, Nutcharut Wongharuthai and Rebecca Kenna.

The event will take place in Milton Keynes on 24 and 25 September.

A series of four-frame round-robin matches will be followed by a best-of-seven frames final.

The players will make alternate visits to the table rather than playing alternate shots and score one point for each frame won.

The event will televised on ITV4.

Amazing turnaround by Jimmy - he’s lost so many from 2 up with 3 to play in the twilight of his career but today was the complete opposite! A 133 break by a 60 year old is no mean feat.
