England captain Joe Root wants Chris Silverwood to remain as head coach despite the Ashes defeat in Australia this winter.

The tourists are 3-0 down in the five-match series, with the final Test in Hobart starting on Friday at 04:00 GMT.

Silverwood is back with the squad after missing the drawn fourth Test in Sydney because of Covid-19.

It does feel a bit of a non-solution to just remove the coach and bring another in - if he's helping the team then maybe the results don't tell the whole story (and there's no guarantee anyone else would do a better job!)

The England and Wales Cricket Board will investigate after police were called to break up an early-hours drinking session at the team hotel.

England and Australia's players and staff got together to mark the end of the Ashes at the tourists' Hobart base.

2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup:

Qualifiers: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Namibia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, West Indies

4 Global Qualifiers: To be decided

I quickly lost interest in the Ashes series after England lost three wickets before I went to bed on the first day of the first test. I didn't really bother watching any of the highlights each day.

The South Africa v India test series was much more interesting with South Africa coming from 1-0 down to win the series 2-1.

Also good to see Ireland win their ODI series against West Indies.

ECB has undergone some changes. Ashley Giles has stood down as director of England cricket. Sir Andrew Strauss is there until a permanent successor can be found.

Chris Silverwood has also departed as head coach. Someone will be appointed for the West Indies tour after which a permanent appointment will be in place. Both of these after a disastrous Ashes.

England could still draw in the Women's Ashes with 2 ODIs remaining to be played. Two of the T20s suffered from adverse weather. One good thing about this series is that it has put the spotlight on women's cricket and whether there should be more test matches? The test in this series was very good.

England's bowlers need to show "more leadership" against West Indies in the absence of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, says interim managing director Andrew Strauss.

Anderson, 39, and Broad, 35, were left out of the squad for the three-Test tour of the West Indies in March.

They are England's top two leading wicket-takers in Tests, with 1,177 dismissals combined.

"This is an opportunity to refresh and look forward," Strauss told BBC Sport.

"We've brought some new blood into the bowling resources.

"But we're also asking some of our existing bowlers to play a slightly different role to the one they've played before and show a bit more leadership."

Kane Richardson and Ashton Agar starred with the ball as Australia took a six-wicket win in Canberra and an unassailable 3-0 lead in their Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka.

The tourists were restricted to 121-6 with Richardson (3-21) and Agar (1-14) keeping a tight rein on the scoring.

Glenn Maxwell scored 39, with skipper Aaron Finch hitting 35 as Australia reached 124-4 with 19 balls to spare.

The fourth game of the five-match series is in Melbourne on Friday.

Ireland will play Oman for a place in the T20 World Cup having advanced to the semi-finals of the Qualifier with a seven-wicket victory over Germany.

A disciplined bowling performance saw Ireland restrict Germany to 107-7 from their 20 overs in Oman.

Looking good for Ireland then! They should have the advantage over Oman as they were the group winners, but at the same time the match being held in Oman must give the home team some advantage.
