A thrilling bowling performance helped England level the one-day international series against South Africa with an emphatic 118-run win in a rain-affected game at Emirates Old Trafford.

Reece Topley took two wickets in the third before David Willey dismissed Quinton de Kock to start the fourth and Jos Buttler's sensational fielding ran out Aiden Markram before he had faced a ball

The 41-year-old will take charge for the first time in August when Afghanistan tour Ireland for a five-match Twenty20 series.

Warwickshire's injury-plagued England fast bowler Olly Stone has been ruled out for four to six weeks after breaking a finger while trying to regain match fitness on Second XI duty.

Stone, who has played just 18 red-ball Bears games since being signed from Northants with an injury in 2016, has suffered from a persistent back issue.

The injury even made him contemplate retiring from international cricket.

But Bears coach Mark Robinson described this latest setback as "heartbreaking".

Sam Northeast made a score of 410 not out today for Glamorgan which is the third highest score in the County Championship.

The top score is Brian Lara's 501 not out from 1994 while the second highest is 424 by Archie MacLaren way back in 1895.

Frustration for South Africa, who were ticking along very nicely indeed in that short passage of play.

Frustration too for the spectators who were being treated to a masterclass by Quinton de Kock, who remains not out on 92 as the rain returns in Headingley.

Sophie Ecclestone starred with bat and ball as England completed a series clean sweep with a comprehensive 38-run victory against South Africa in the third Twenty20 at Derby.

The 23-year-old top-scored with a career-best 33 not out from 12 balls to help England post an imposing 176-6.

She then took 2-24 with the ball as South Africa struggled in reply.

Tamzin Brits showed resistance with 59 but the tourists could only limp to 138-6 from their 20 overs.

The win means England have won all six white-ball matches following the Test draw in the multi-format series to wrap up a 14-2 victory before the start of the Commonwealth Games on Friday.

Worcestershire are planning another change of management structure.

The County Championship Division Two club have advertised for applicants for the role of director of cricket.

The title was last used by long-serving ex-player and coach Steve Rhodes before he left New Road in December 2017.

But it will be reintroduced when former Pears fast bowler Paul Pridgeon, 68, who is currently chair of the county's cricket steering group, stands down at the end of the season.

Moeen Ali expects more players to retire from some formats because of the packed schedule.

Test captain Ben Stokes quit one-day internationals in July, while he and England team-mate Jonny Bairstow have opted to miss The Hundred.

"At the moment it's not sustainable," said Moeen, who retired from Test cricket last year.

Moeen, 35, is concerned that 50-over cricket could vanish amid the increasing dominance of Twenty20.

Speaking after his Birmingham Phoenix side lost to Trent Rockets in The Hundred on Saturday, he said: "Something has to be done because I fear losing the 50-over format in a couple of years because it's almost like the long, boring one. There's no importance given to it at the moment.

"International cricket in all three formats is by far the best cricket to play, but I do worry there are so many tournaments out there that players are retiring more now - and you'll see more retiring soon - because of overlapping schedules."
