Anyone would think they wouldn't want this story interfering with Max wrapping up the championship this Sunday...

Alonso's overtake at Suzuka is great no doubt about that but I can think of several that I think are better -

Hakkinen on Schumacher - Spa 2000

Piquet on Senna - Hungary 1986

Mansell on Berger - Mexico 1990

Webber on Alonso - Spa 2011

Villeneuve on Schumacher - Portugal 1996

Lewis Hamilton says it is "imperative" that suitable punishments are meted out for any team found to have broken Formula 1's budget cap.

The FIA will reveal on Monday which teams exceeded it last season, after delaying the publication.

Hamilton said: "I like to think that if it's being delayed, it's because it's being taken very seriously.

"It would be bad for the sport if action wasn't taken if there was a breach."

Of course he would say that, wouldn't he?

Hot take, but Suzuka is a massively overrated tack in general. There genuinely hasn't been a memorable race there since 2005. The only 2 great Japanese GPs since then were the 2 at Fuji! It's way way too narrow and the straights aren't quite long enough for overtaking. It's fun to watch an onboard hot lap but that's about it.
Modern cars have robbed Suzuka of its challenges. It was a monster back in the 80/90s but now in the days of big cars, with super high downforce and smooth tracks the bumps and high speed corners have diminished its status. Even 130R hasn't been the same since McNish had that huge shunt.
Suzuka is one of those circuits I love to drive on Racing Games but am not so enthusiastic about watching on TV. There’s not huge amounts of real like action to a race these days but it’s such a technical circuit that it’s so rewarding to drive. The S-curves in sector 1 are such a joy to drive when you nail them and then you get things like the spoon, 130R and the hairpin that are all technically challenging in distinct ways.

nice to have DeVries and about time Gasly left the Red Bull/Alpha Tauri household

so whats left? Schumacher's seat? and Latifi's replacement?

It's absolutely right that drivers should be angry over this. No crane should be trackside in those conditions unless all cars are lined up behind the safety car or there's a red flag.

However, Gasly needs to check himself too - a major factor in Bianchi's accident was his excessive pace under yellows and Gasly was driving way too fast at this occasion too, despite the flags.
