That was the first time I've ever watched Alcaraz and wow can he move around the court! And you can tell there's still plenty of room for improvement which is a scary prospect.

They did make such a big deal of the youngest ever #1 thing when that fact requires a huge asterisk next to it with all the shenanigans to do with ranking points/bans this season.

Roger Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam singles champion, will retire from top-level tennis after the Laver Cup in London later this month.

Swiss Federer, 41, has not played since Wimbledon 2021, after which he had a third knee operation.

Shame but it was bound to happen sooner rather than later. Really he's been finished pretty much since the 2019 Wimbledon final but it's sad that injuries robbed him of a proper send-off.

Long time coming

But bit sad about ut

Sorry to see that Roger has retired. Loved to watch him play. He used to float across the court.

Emma Raducanu is out of the Slovenia Open after a disappointing defeat by Germany's Anna-Lena Friedsam in Portoroz.

The British number one was top seed at the event but fell to a 7-5 0-6 6-3 loss in the second round.

Raducanu was leading 5-3 in the first set against qualifier Friedsam, ranked 213 in the world, before appearing to look uncomfortable in her movement.

Great Britain failed to reach the Davis Cup Finals knockout stage after Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury lost the key doubles rubber against the Netherlands.

The Group D tie in Glasgow had been level at 1-1 after Dan Evans won in the singles before Cameron Norrie lost to set up a nail-biting finale.

But Murray and Salisbury lost a thriller 7-6 (7-0) 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 to Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop.

Raducanu has managed to win three matches in a row for the first time since the US Open 2021, by reaching the semi-finals of the Korea Open.

Great Britain's Emma Raducanu is out of the Korea Open after retiring injured from her semi-final against top seed Jelena Ostapenko.

The 19-year-old took a medical timeout during the second set as she struggled with a left glute injury.

She carried on as Ostapenko claimed the second set but conceded the match to the Latvian at 4-6 6-3 3-0.

Ostapenko will face second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia, who beat Germany's Tatjana Maria 6-2 6-4.

British number one Raducanu, who was playing in her first semi-final of a regular WTA Tour event, has struggled with various injuries and has retired mid-match on a number of occasions since winning the US Open in 2021.

Sakkari is the top seed and a wild card. I suspect she has been "tempted" to come. They like to have one top-20 player as a promotional thing at these 250s.
