Blondie and Visage were big for me in 1981 love them still! Steve Winwood was under-appreciated in the UK sales-wise, and nice to see The Police sneaking in belatedly. Duran Duran fit in nicely with the huge New Romantic scene, and great to see Juice Newton enter, Angel Of The Morning is one I didn;t notice too much at the time but went big for when it topped my charts after it started the Deadpool movie off. Wow! What an intro! Brilliant record.

Hi John!

Glad that you like Blonde's and Visage's songs in the chart, Steve Winwood was a very underrated artist, knew him from listening to retro chart shows and I knew about his original "Higher Love", after it was sampled by Kygo & Whitney Houston and I'm also happy that you like the debuts for The Police, Duran Duran and Juice Newton!

Thank you for your comment.

Visage still on top quite rightly - they only got one week on top from me :o

Good to see Queen top 5, Bill & Hall & Oates top 10, John Lennon with 3 climbing/entering - all chart-toppers for me.

Phil Collins at 24 :yahoo: Total classic.

Also good to see Yranrough & Peeples debut, I liked that one, had a Stevie Wonder vibe to it.

Good chart!

Yay Visage still at 1!

I heard Kiss On My List on radio yesterday - still sounding fab!

Stars On 45, I still enjoy that one, good to see it in at 8. Smokey & Jacksons, both total classics for me. Hope they climb high!

Totting up the chart-toppers in my charts in your most-recent top 40 and the total is 13. I won't do a spoiler yet (as Ive yet to revisit 1981 charts) and some of them topped my charts before 1981, or after 1981, but to say almost a third of your top 40 hit number one in my personal charts is a pretty good clue to how good your chart is (to me) - but I also enjoy seeing stuff I barely know, like the Steely Dan track. I have 2 of their albums, and rate them highly (they topped my chart in 1977 with Haitian Divorce) - yet I dont remember Time Out Of Mind!

great stuff! B-)

Hi there John!

Glad that you like the top song for that week, as well as some of the songs debuting and rising.

"Time Out Of Mind" I've discovered like most of the 1981 songs from old chart shows.

Thank you for your comment.

Sorry that I couldn't continue with this. I was very busy lately with making the current charts and personal life, as well as work-related things.

Promising by either Tomorrow or Saturday, I'll continue to catch-up with my retro charts :)

Good to have this back Sergej, life gets busy, I know, I'm years behind on my charts that I was posting...! :) :cheer:

Kiss On My List is a great one, it underperformed on my chart of the time, but still went top 20. Visage, Blondie and John Lennon at 2,3 and 4 all topped my charts though :yahoo: Just The Two Of Us is another I under-estimated a bit, it deserves top 10.

Phil Collins climbing fast, that was a number 2 in 1981 for me but it topped as a remix in 1988, classic. Even Non-Phil-Collins fans have to see it as at the very least decent. Angel Of The Morning top 20, you were ahead of me on that one, Being With You making good moves, of the new entries Ottawan is still my fave (and I don't care admitting it! ) but REO Speedwagon is good, and The Who are decent-ish (but not in the same league as their 60's stuff) - the others I don't know!

great chart! :)

'Keep On Loving You' quite the fan of REO Speedwagon in general thanks to my parents and also my mum is why I also know 'I Love A Rainy Night' as well. The Police and Phil Collins are classics lower down too.

Hi John!

Glad to do them again here, love revisiting classics from the years before I was born.

Hall & Oates are my favourite duo from the 80s and of all time. "Just The Two Of Us" will have a higher place on my chart in the next weeks, watch out for this.

Thank you for your comment.

39. The Boomtown Rats - Banana Republic (-7)

40. Climax Blues Band - I Love You (debut)

Can You Feel It was a big chart-topper for me in 1981, total classic and their best record, Jealous Guy also topped my charts and Kids In America came close love 'em still and Kids goes down a storm in concert still (seen Kim 5 or 6 times in recent years) as you get an audience of 50/60-somethings all singing we're the kids in America when we're neither of those things  Still fab anyway!

a duo double top, and Smokey Robinson another classic chart-topper for me, still love it, so smooth and melodic and Smokey's voice is an under-rated jewel. Bette Davis Eyes hit 2 in my charts, what a monster great cover of an unknown song, How Bout Us is sweet, and Watching The Wheels still very sad given what happened. I dont know that Climax Blues Band track...!

Glad that you like some of the songs on here.

"Can You Feel It" is a solid Jacksons record, really shocked me it was only a UK hit and not a big hit smash, that it deserved to be.

"Kids In America" is a classic, two duos at #1 & #2, both are classics in their own right, Smokey gets a big hit, not even hit it's a peak with it yet, "Bette Davis Eyes" is one of the best songs of the 80s for me and I'm glad that you like the debuts.
