New decade- new albums. The album market certainly isn't what it was once but that doesn't stop us counting down the top 100 best selling albums of the decade so far, if only so we can complain about the lack of new albums.

Roughly a fifth of the list are greatest hits compilations so where possible I'll try to focus on albums released in this decade.....

Charts covered are 09.01.2020- 06.01.2022.

The top positions will probably be well known so no spoilers please! :D

96. Map Of The Soul 7 BTS (48-96) 129,400
97. Classic Diamonds Neil Diamond/ LSO (60-97) 128,700
98. + Ed Sheeran (99-98) 128,700 (T/S 2,633,600)
99. Greatest Hits….So Far Pink (NEW) 125,900 (T/S 1,246,100)
100. The Blueprint- Us Vs Them D-Block Europe (NEW) 123,500

So the benchmark for the top 100 isn’t particularly high at just 123k and GH sets are here from the off with Pink, Ed Sheeran, and Neil Diamond reaping the rewards. D-Block Europe and BTS at least bring us something new.

91. Music Played By Humans Gary Barlow (49-91) 136,900
92. Platinum Hits Jason Derulo (82-92) 136,100 (T/S 308,500)
93. Greatest Hits Guns N Roses (84-93) 135,700 (T/S 2,294,600)
94. Harry Styles Harry Styles (89-94) 134,900 (T/S 383,500)
95. Piano Man- The Very Best Of Billy Joel (NEW) 131,700 (T/S 1,233,100)

Styles proving he’s the most bankable former member from One Direction in terms of album sales with his debut now platinum. Talking of members of boybands (well maybe a man band now) Gary Barlow reaps the benefits of the Christmas market with his second solo album. Otherwise GH albums all around.

cannot believe Jason Derulo has a Greatest hits that is Platinum :/

I thought + may have been higher but I suppose Ed’s other studio albums are usually higher and he’s one of those artists who had a big debut but even bigger follow ups.

I’m guessing he’ll be the artist with the most albums on here though unless I’m missing something or someone really obvious.

86. Timeless- The All Time Greatest Hits Bee Gees (NEW) 141,400 (T/S 265,500)
87. The Singles Phil Collins (93-87) 141,300 (T/S 519,000)
88. Teenage Dream Katy Perry (NEW) 137,400 (T/S 1,560,200)
89. I Cry When I Laugh Jess Glynne (88-89) 137,200 (T/S 1,369,000)
90. Hypersonic Missiles Sam Fender (72-90) 137,200 (T/S 251,500)

Nothing new to see here with everything predating 2020. Fender is at least the most recent and Katy Perry is now 5 x platinum with by far her biggest album.

Im surprised Jason Derulo platinum hits is on such high sales, i know its been on the chart alot but i thought it would be on about 150 max, im assuming its his biggest selling uk album now.

81. Certified Lover Boy Drake (NEW) 142,500
82. Meet The Woo 2 Pop Smoke (68-82) 142,400
83. Greatest Hits- God's Favourite Band Green Day (85-83) 141,900 (T/S 291,100)
84. Greatest Hits- The Platinum Collection Queen (54-84) 141,700 (T/S 2,388,300)
85. Nevermind Nirvana (NEW) 141,400 (T/S 2,425,000)

Queen’s album should go 8 x platinum at some points shortly whilst Green Day’s should be platinum in 2022. “Nevermind” consolidates itself as a classic and Drake and Pop Smoke give us new albums for the decade

Nirvanas nevermind i always think has much higher sales than it actually does, dont get me wrong nothing wrong with touching on 2 million sales but for some reason i thought it was close to those sales before it returned to the charts in the streaming era.

Yes sorry i only gave the post 94 sales- altered!

Btw in 3 years time, we’re going to be 1/4 of the way through the 21st century - scary thought! Do you think you’ll do a countdown of the century’s biggest selling albums then?

76. Definitive Collection Stevie Wonder (76-76) 145,600 (T/S 1,394,600)
77. Scorpion Drake (64-77) 144,500 (T/S 586,400)
78. Life By Misadventure Rag'N'Bone Man (NEW) 144,500
79. Beerbongs & Bentleys Post Malone (61-79) 144,100 (T/S 577,300)
80. Justice Justin Bieber (NEW) 142,700

Rag N Bone Man and Justin Bieber bring the new tunes to this selection, Post Malone and Drake should go 2 x platinum in 2022.

Rag N Bone Man has had a bit of chart longevity with life by misadventure but the album is on about a million less than his debut.

71. 1989 Taylor Swift (97-71) 149,900 (T/S 1,426,700)
72. Letter To You Bruce Springsteen (31-72) 149,400
73. Ultimate Collection Whitney Houston (42-73) 147,900 (T/S 1,856,300)
74. Planet Her Doja Cat (NEW) 147,700
75. Doo Wops & Hooligans Bruno Mars (NEW) 145,700 (T/S 2,016,500)

Whitney and Bruno continue to sell (2 million now for the latter) and Brucce Springsteen retains his relevance on the album front. Doja Cat proves she can move albums and whilst few have been as productive as Taylor in making albums over the last few years, “1989” continues to amass the sales on the way to 1.5 million (probably in 2023).

Of the 30 albums revealed so far, I make it 10 pre-2020 greatest hits albums, 10 pre-2020 studio albums, and 10 new albums - so kudos to those 10 for making it I guess (although those include Classic Diamonds which is essentially a GH).

Guess 1989 won’t progress much further

If we get the Taylor version this year

Whitneys Ultimate collection will probably stall there as the streaming now seems to be allocated to the i will always love you best of, Bruno mars over 2 million, his return to the chart in 2021 with streaming of the album has really helped him over the line.
Bruno also had a bunch of old racks from that album going viral in Tiktok so sure that helped too
