Jim has mentioned the two that immediately came to my mind. I’d love for KLF and Tammy to appear but can’t imagine that would have sold enough sadly

I'm not including remixes or re-releases so I'll Be There For You and You've Got the Love won't feature.

There are are only 7 songs that would have dented our top 50 so I have included next 3 best improved singles to bring this to 10.

>50 - The Prodigy - Out Of Space

Chart Run

14-6-5-8-11-14-12-9-19-30-34-48-52

Bringing all it's sales into 1992 would have brought Out of Space from 43rd best seller of 1992 to 20th - falling short of the benchmark for this top 50.

>50 - Take That - Could It Be Magic

Chart Run

9-5-4-4-3-3-4-10-17-27-45-54

Similarly, this would have improved from 37th best seller to 19th of 1992.

>50 - East 17 - It´s Alright

Chart Run

19-9-7-5-5-4-3-6-11-15-25-38-43-68

It's Alright would get a 23 place boost to 20th best seller of 1993 had all its sales occurred in that year.

50 - Robert Miles - One & One

Chart Run

6-6-6-5-4-3-5-4-6-16-21-30-37-44-60-71-67

It's pleasing to note that One & One would have taken 50th place in our chart given the benefit of its 1997 sales. It's a rather sweet song that never seems to have suffered from the over-exposure it withstood at the end of 1996.

24 - Bryan Adams featuring Melanie C - When You're Gone

Chart Run

3-6-8-7-6-6-6-7-5-7-11-15-22-32-36-42-50-57-65

Total sales for this would have gained it 12th place in the End of Year chart in 1998 giving it spot 24 here.

I like all of those, but the last 2 especially, Robert Miles One & One was on Radio 2 yesterday still sounding great, and When You're Gone has been a classic radio staple for almost 24 years and still rousingly fab.

24 - The KLF - Justified & Ancient

Chart Run

5-3-3-4-2-2-4-10-14-26-52-71

According to Gezza's Top 100 Dance Songs of the 1990s, this sold marginally more than 3AM Eternal so replaces it in 12th position in the End of Year 1991 gaining it 24th place here.

22 - Janet Jackson - Together Again

Chart Run

4-6-5-5-4-5-8-8-9-10-15-17-20-24-30-36-44-63-75

Perhaps lower than someone of you expected, it would only take 11th best seller in 1997 and gets spot 22 here. 1997 was such a huge year for single sales that even 741,000 wouldn't get you a place in the top 10 of the year.

9 - Robbie Williams - Angels

Chart Run

7-5-7-6-7-6-9-7-6-7-4-9-12-15-21-23-32-43-58-71-57

Robbie would have made it to the top 10 if all 828,000 sales occurred in 1997.

9 - Boyzone - Love Me For A Reason

Chart Run

10-4-3-4-2-3-5-10-16-26-42-56-61

Boyzone would also have taken 9th spot had all its sales been taken in 1994.

3 - Oasis - Whatever

Chart Run

3-6-8-9-14-19-28-43-65-70-48 etc

Spending an astonishing 110 weeks in the top 100 in the 90s, Whatever's over all sales would have made it the 6th best seller of 1994 and the number 3 spot in this chart.

Wow at Whatever, didn’t have that in mind at all despite it making total sense now you’ve announced it
Those 7 that would have made the Top 50 are all excellent! Amazing for Whatever considering its fairly short Top 40 run.
KLF & Oasis are top-notch 90's classics, and should be high in the chart. janet Jackson's is nice. Boyzone's version of Johnny Bristol's Love Me For a Reason made me realise how good in comparison The Osmonds were after all :teresa:
Whatever is great but was not available on any of their albums till Time Flies in 2009. Might go some way to explaining why it made the EOY top 100 three years running (94-96),can't think of any other song to do that in the pre-digital era.

10 - Michael Jackson - Heal The World

9th best seller of 1992

Chart Run

3-2-2-2-2-2-5-12-28-38-43-62-60-69-68

Managing to stay 5 weeks at number 2 with the 6th single off a million selling album is no mean feat, such was the star power of MJ at this point in his career. Heal the World became the best selling single that didn't reach number 1 in 1992, having to settle for silver behind Whitney's run away success I Will Always Love You.
