The artists of this year's Söngvakeppnin have been revealed, with the songs revealed on the website Eurovision Fun. There's 9 artists performing 10 songs. As the artists and songs are being leaked it's not clear who is singing each song but I can already tell that "Volcano" is Haffi Haff, 99% sure "Turn This Around" is Reykjavíkurdætur, "Keep It Cool" is Suncity & Sanna, I think "Heart of Mine" is Stefanía and "All I Know" is probably Stefán Óli (by power of deduction lol). Other than that I'm not entirely sure although I have some suspicions. I don't know most of these names outside of Haffi Haff, Suncity, Reykjavíkurdætur & Stefanía. (I actually know both Haffi & Suncity personally as well as a member of Reykjavíkurdætur so obviously rooting for them).

Not sure on the quality of the songs yet, guess it will depend on the staging. Keep It Cool is an instant stand out for me but none of them scream winner potential to me.

Listen to the songs here

9. Hækkum í botn / Keep It Cool

10. Don't You Know (same title both in Icelandic & English)

Omg PLEASE let them send Reykjavíkurdætur!! Actual icons. ('Hæpið' and 'Ógeðsleg' by them were both former BJSC potentials for me, idk why I never got around to sending either of them)
I really wanna back former Rd‘Á representative Haffi Haff but that song is a bit of a wtf Moment. I’ll just stick to Give Me Sexy 😂

oh very surprised Marketa Irglova is up to this! she's a Czech, was part of the folk duo Swell Season with Glen Hansard and together they did the movie Once

that was best song at the Oscars, she's kinda folkish singer-songwriter so surprised she's up to this

She married an Icelandic 10 years ago and been living in Iceland since

her song is called Possible, per her IG

My ratings:

1. Turn This Around (9/10) (English version sounds better here imo)

2. Þaðan af (9/10)

3. Keep It Cool (8/10) (Again, English version sounds better here imo)

4. Gía (7.5/10)

5. Hjartað mitt (7.5/10)

6. Mögulegt (7/10)

7. Ljósið (7/10)

8. Séns með þér (6/10)

9. Með hækkandi sól (6/10)

10. Don't You Know (5/10)

Overall rating: 7.2/10

Top 5 rating: 8.2/10

I think this is probably the strongest selection so far. Half of the selection are down for second listen and I have a feeling this could mean Iceland will overtake Norway as the best NS this year.

A very strong selection, but not sure there's anything here that could continue Iceland's recent top ten form.

Then Again sounds suitably epic and dramatic so should do well, and I also like Með hækkandi sól (very First Aid Kit and juries would surely enjoy it), Heart Of Mine (classic Eurovision/Disney ballad sound, maybe a bit formulaic to do much), Keep It Cool (good summer dance song) and Gemini (doesn't sound like a hit but I like the 60s sound to it).

Finalists:

Stefán Óli "All I Know"

Sigga, Beta and Elín "Með hækkandi sól"

Reykjavíkurdætur "Turn This Around"

Katla "Then Again"

Amarosis "Don’t you know"

Jafet do you have any read at all on who's likely to win this? I have been periodically Googling but can't find much in the way of speculation / predictions.

Happy to see RVKDTR at least making it through this first round. Come on Iceland do the right thing. (I say having not listened to the song).

I honestly have no idea. The songs are all so different.

Personally I hope Sigga, Beta & Elín win and think they have a chance of doing so given they'll have the support of a lot of older voters (their parents are very famous & well respected singers). The jury should be kind to them as well.

Reykjavíkurdætur have a real chance of winning as well and I'd be happy with that too. They are popular in Iceland but also have some haters as well. They could storm the televote but idk how well the jury will take to them as it's a bit chaotic.

Stefán or Katla could be surprise winners in a Ari Ólafs-esque victory with seemingly big fanbases for the televote and they're both pretty jury friendly. I'd be a bit disappointed if either of these wins as they're quite forgettable and generic but they're not bad songs so I guess proper staging could really sell either one.

Amarosis are very cute and the song is catchy but I don't think they'll win because I'd be surprised if the televote support them enough.

But then again I have no idea how the jury/televote split will work as often they are very uneven so honestly who knows lmao. If I were a betting man I'd say most likely winner is Reykjavíkurdætur, followed by Sigga, Beta & Elín, followed by Stefán, then Katla and finally Amarosis.

Going with 'a bit chaotic' has worked well for Iceland in recent years so I implore the juries to embrace it xx

RVKDTR and the country ladies into the last 2 like Jafet predicted!

I’ll be happy either way but I reckon we get RVKDætur in Torino!

In a shocking turn of events, this won :o

I’m surprised but not disappointed. I wanted RVKDTR to win and was really hoping they would but this was my second fave. They are such professionals and have beautiful harmonies. Could do well but could also get lost in the semis. I don’t think there is any other country song this year is there? So that could help.

These are the same girls that made this song 9 yrs ago, which i think was in BJSC at some point:

I like it, I think I pointed it out as one of my favourites in the selection when I listened to it and still think this should hopefully qualify. I doubt it has a chance to be a third top ten in a row for Iceland but it strikes me as a borderline finalist (largely backed by the juries) then something like 17th.

:nocheer: so close but so far

The description of the winning entry does not exactly fill me with excitement but no judging until I hear it ofc x Didn't know until just now that Sigga, Beta & Elín was just a rebranding of Sísý Ey, they've been sent to BJSC twice actually, 'Ain't Got Nobody' was the first and then they also featured on 'Apart' by Kasper Bjørke. I didn't vote for either of those songs oops :kink:
