And Taylor Swift’s latest album has sold 82,197 CDs so far and her target audience is mostly youngsters

Yeah, that's because it's Taylor Swift though, I'd be very surprised if even half of those CD have even been played.

There's a loyalty/connection there that will never be made with an outdated compilation brand.

People play them in their cars that’s one reason why youngsters will buy Now CDs because most of them don’t exactly have new cars and most youngsters have a CD player in their car

This is an odd hill to die on tbh.
Now did go overboard with the album artists on Now 116. I don’t have a problem with a handful of album artists on the albums but not to go overboard, unless they want another flop in their midst. If Now 116 flops like Now 115 did, it might make them rethink their tracklists for future Nows. Even on iTunes, Now 116 has been bombarded with negative reviews. Shame Now don’t read the negative reviews that they get for their albums. I also hope that Now 117 goes overboard with the Now 116 omissions. If I had to pick between Now 117 going overboard with album artists or overboard with Now 116 omissions, then I’d rather the latter and I also hope that Now 117 gets released before Easter and not after Easter like Now 114 did for some unknown reason

I wouldn't say bombarded, there are only six reviews on iTunes at the moment and one is from you. A couple of the others seem to echo your views very specifically (e.g. about the last volume only getting to No.2 on the compilation chart/tracks 'being picked out of a hat' etc).

Not that I don't agree that it's a weak tracklist, but I don't think I'd take much stock from those few iTunes reviews, and Now are certainly unlikely to read them.

Anyway, I bought Now 16 as well today, and the cashier in HMV mentioned that she couldn't believe it was still going, but that the reissues seem to sell quite well for them.

I'm still deciding whether to get any of the 40 years releases next week. I mean, I have every song on the numbered albums, but am still tempted specifically by a couple of the decades ones for ease of listening.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many other people even look at the compilation charts :P

The only songs from the 100-track 40 years compilation which don’t appear on any of the volumes are "Where Is The Love?" and "This Is Me" so I’d only be missing out on 2 tracks if I only went with the 4 volumes of the 40 years compilation

I noticed that Paint the Town Red uses the radio edit but censors the word "devil" separately on Now 116.

It’s a middle-aged Radio 2 crowd, they’re often the first to complain about there being “too much swearing in modern music”.

Always with the ageism in this thread. Change the record folks x

I probably should have worded it better, as it obviously doesn't apply to everyone, but swearing does tend to decrease as you get older - the stats back it up! Mainly because people start families, but of course Now has always been a family-friendly product so I'm sure it'll stay that way.

Even then, people swear at all ages (at least, most people I come across have been known to swear regardless of age) and I find that it’s your social demographic rather than age that makes a difference.

It’s usually something frowned upon by parents who don’t want their children to hear the language and even then, not so much these days.

Just getting through my first listen-so much I haven’t knowingly heard until now!

What is up with the S Club song? It sounds dreadful and even cleared up, it feels like it would be terrible anyways, definitely a low point for their discography.

Also, I don’t think I’d realise Madonna was on Vulgar if they didn’t keep saying her name-overly processed! I always wondered what it’d be like to finally have her on a Now-and it was never like this!

Who are the biggest artists now that have never made the numbered series?

The recording is so poor, it sounds like a radio rip MP3 from the 00s :( I quite like the song though but very rarely listen to it as the muffled mastering isn’t pleasant.

Yes it’s a bit of a shame that Vulgar is Madonna’s first appearance. The Weeknd track Popular would have made for a better addition.

Probably Elvis, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruce Springsteen and Shakin’ Stevens, along with The Beatles of course.

The Beatles?

I’d class them as big artists who’ve had hits post-1983 and never appeared. I don’t class the big artists pre-1983 who haven’t appeared

Finished Now 116 and Disc 2 was definitely the least I've ever enjoyed a Now disc, a lot of the second half was a slog, and even the first half had a lot of average or just bad songs by great/classic artists. I enjoyed Disc 1 though.

I see Now has ceased to exist in all countries that had them apart from the UK and US (even South Africa I realised stopped in 2020).

Instead of abandoing the brand altogether, I think it could be time to now either go down to two editions a year to cut the crap down by a lot, or have 1 disc editions that sell for £7.99 maybe? I think they could still appeal to the Radio 2 audience, just at the end of the disc instead? Like these could have made up one disc (not in this order though), and even THEN there are some fillers retained.

Olivia Rodrigo - vampire

Doja Cat - Paint The Town Red

Kenya Grace – Strangers

Peggy Gou - (It Goes Like) Nanana

Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Desire

Kylie Minogue – Tension

Becky Hill & Chase & Status – Disconnect

Issey Cross - Bittersweet Goodbye

Sonny Fodera, MK & Clementine Douglas – Asking

Billy Gillies feat. Hannah Boleyn - DNA (Loving You)

Hannah Laing & RoRo - Good Love

Jazzy - Feel It (Club Edit)

Beyond Chicago X Majestic X Alex Mills - Million Dollar Bill

Nicki Minaj - Last Time I Saw You

Stormzy & RAYE - The Weekend

SZA – Snooze

Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For? (From The Motion Picture "Barbie")

Luke Combs - Fast Car

Stephen Sanchez - Until I Found You

Tom Odell - Black Friday

Take That – Windows

The Rolling Stones - Angry

Olivia Rodrigo - bad idea right?

I should say, I do like quite a few of the songs I've taken out (Lana, PinkPantheress, S Club, Sugababes etc), but not sure a numbered Now is necessarily the place they belong. Maybe some other new compilation for new pop or something (not that it would sell :drama:)

I’d say switch to American format which is 4 single disc editions a year and release them every first Friday of March, June, September and December or if they intend on sticking to 3 double disc editions a year, then to release them every first Friday of March, July and November. And as for Now Yearbook Extra 1988, they’ll most likely announce it next week with a release date of 5th January
