My ReviewNow That’s What I Call Music! 102 or Now 102 came out in Spring 2019, containing 46 tracks and 5 UK #1 singles. The compilation was made slightly differently to past releases, containing a "throwback" of hits from the second Now volume originally released in 1984. From this volume we were introduced to music from Ava Max, Lewis Capaldi and Jack Savoretti.

There were lots of omissions from the era given that it is always the longest gap between the Christmas volume and the Spring volume. This time we were missing music from LadBaby, Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Dave, Chris Brown, Lizzo, Pinkfong and other popular hits.

The belated additions of music from 2017's The Greatest Showman was a surprise, and none of the artists have had other songs feature in the series. There also hasn't been another appearance yet from Freya Ridings.

Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good

Swirls and curls were used as a concept for this volume, using an array of colours from blue, purple, pink and some orange highlights. Simple and effective, but largely unimpressive compared with the last two volumes. Still decent but not very memorable when compared with other designs from the series.

Disc 1 Favourite: Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus – Nothing Breaks Like a Heart

A great match with Mark Ronson's production matching to Miley's great vocals. Definitely one of the highlights of Mark's career. Mark Ronson tried to gain success following this with Lykke Li, Camila Cabello and also with Yebba but wasn't able to achieve a similar chart peak with those efforts.

Disc 2 Favourite: Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper – Shallow

The best ballad ever by Lady Gaga, and this timeless piece from the soundtrack to A Star Is Born was such a great piece to add to her back catalogue of hits. Actor Bradley Cooper compliments the song very well too. It was one of three other hits from the soundtrack including I'll Never Love Again and Always Remember Us This Way.

Disc 3 Tracklist:

(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Billie Eilish – bury a friend 3:13 {6}

2. Dave feat. J Hus – Disaster 4:00 {8}

3. Post Malone – Wow. 2:30 {3}

4. NSG & Tion Wayne – Options 4:00 {7}

5. Wiley, Stefflon Don & Sean Paul feat. Idris Elba – Boasty 2:57 {11}

6. Cardi B – Money 3:04 {35}

7. Gesaffelstein feat. The Weeknd – Lost In The Fire 3:22 {9}

8. Summer Walker feat. Drake – Girls Need Love 3:42 {41}

Overall Rating: 6/10 Good

I wasn't that impressed with the decision to include songs from artists whose singles were not mainstream, but I warmed to that idea in time. I also was against using up valuable disc space for 80's hits that have featured heavily on many other compilations over the years, this would have been better used for some of the omissions of this era. I was pleased to see 5 #1 singles, and a decent variety of genres featuring.

Late 2018/early 2019 had some very good stuff in the charts!

I picked Mabel's Don't Call Me Up for Disc 1 and Freya Ridings' Lost Without You for Disc 2. But Shallow would be my pick on nearly any other album probably, they were my 1st and 4th favourite songs of 2018, respectively.

Artwork 7/10, overall rating 9/10.

These are all very good to great songs for me (ignoring the retro picks, obviously they are usually great but I used to turn the album off before getting to them):
