Yeah, for me the production is the only thing that lets some recent Steps covers down. Victorious, I Will Love Again and Dancing With A Broken Heart also felt a little limp for me compared to their original versions. Which is weird because they're completely capable of having a cover pop - Something In Your Eyes, The Slightest Touch.

 

Hard 2 Forget is a catchy track and they all sound great but, for example, Claire's long notes and ad libs are a little buried in the mix, I'd love to have heard them clearer and louder. It's all a bit 'Joel Corry Remix', which is not necessarily a bad thing - it certainly sounds more contemporary than most of their other stuff and could be a decent airplay hit, but a few more production flourishes - string breakdowns, more drama, would have been great!

 

I'll be very interested to hear the remixes of this one!

This is excellent! One of their best singles since their “come back”. Nice to hear everyone getting vocals. Not sure I needed a key change but good all round!

Hard 2 not be underwhelmed, first release since Dancing with a broken heart I’ve thought oh is that it.

I feel like they could have went for it a bit more on the key change.

 

But I have to say I am actually really enjoying it now after 3 spins. It sounds nice and summery, and even though I'm working from home with the window open it's doing it for me with today's weather.

I think my initial first impression would be: The Slightest Touch > Hard 2 Forget > Take Me For A Ride

 

I think we were all hoping it would be as punchy as The Slightest Touch, but I appreciate the restraint as well.

I never bothered to listen to the original, but I agree with the few comments we have so far where some of their covers haven't 100% lived up to the original (looking at you, Victorious).

Iys not as good as the slightest touch touch for me but better than take me for a ride.

If the two versions available to buy on iTunes were combined, Steps would actually be #1 on iTunes!

A slight pity that they won't get to boast about an iTunes #1 even though it technically is the best selling song there at the moment (I know doing well on iTunes isn't much in the grand scheme of music consumption, lol, but still a nice achievement for them).

I quite like it got a chilled bop to it, does feel a little like it is about to go huge but never quite does though.

Ya I would prefer if it went up a notch or 2 in the 2nd half of the song.

I don’t really rate the new steps song. It’s ok but nothing outstanding. It’s certainly nothing in comparison to scared of the dark or their earlier stuff.

The video is pretty naff.
