A thread for discussion about the upcoming Steps album, which isn't officially confirmed yet, but is rumoured to be a Greatest Hits!

According to this website - https://www.mandy.com/uk/crew/meg-sharp - interestingly it seems this forthcoming era is going to be handled by Sony Music Entertainment!

Lisa via Instagram stories also wrote "time for a new album?" which seems like a hint!

Well they've had great exposure on Radio 2 over the past few years, so when it comes to their main demographic, there could be interest in another Greatest Hits. I don't think it matters that they haven't been able to achieve chart placements in the singles chart. They may not have great support on streaming or have crossed over to the youth who mostly shape what the singles chart is, but I don't think that matters for Steps. Them not having "hits" doesn't mean these singles haven't connected with who they're intended to connect with.

No doubt this would be the first Steps Greatest Hits album to have many formats - surely there'll be many CD, cassette and vinyl versions, so that would secure purchases from the hardcore fan base. I think there's enough recent singles to separate it from the first two Greatest Hits. Also, Gold and Ultimate Collection were over 20 and 10 years ago respectively, so I'm sure there's a potential for new buyers.

I'm happy if this era is a Greatest Hits anyway, I would particularly be looking forward to a vinyl!

They havnt had hits as such since they reformed but anyone who follows Steps would know most of the singles since they reformed I think. I'd be happy with a new hits collection as I think they have delivered some fantastic singles since they reformed. It will be interesting if they do a 1 cd mixed of old and new or a 2cd 1 with old and one with the new. A new greatest hits I'm hoping will mean all their streams from older hits will count towards this release, I think it would be an important move.

If they go hard on promo and multi formats I'm hoping it gets them the number 1doing the 4 decades of number 1 albums as I'd love them to achieve that.

My only fear is they do reworked versions of older songs which I'm not a fan of unless they completly surprise me but generally that concept hasnt worked for me when others have done it.

A new Greatest Hits set provides the opportunity to present both their back catalogue and new material.

There are casual buyers who may buy the release on the strength of the old hits which presents an opportunity for these such people to discover Steps more recent material.

Great point, there potential for old fans to discover their new music which would be great.

The latest gossip is that the era will begin in June!

They should have done an exclusive RSD pressing of WTFH2 to get them sales in!

(Even a standard black copy!)

I’m still quite bitter.

I look forward to whatever it is. I don’t see the problem with a 3rd greatest hits as long as it’s billed more of a 25 years of Steps thing as yeah technically they’ve not been ‘hits’ as such

Tbf I don't get this whole thing about having to have 'hits' for a GH. People say Melanie C couldn't have one since she only has 4 solo records that were hits (silver or above) but the likes of Bonnie Tyler and Belinda Carlisle and a whole host of others have them despite having just a handful of 'hits.'

Then if you are thinking of the amount of Greatest Hits the likes of Cher and Abba etc have tons, Abba probably have more of them than studio albums

A new updated greatest hits seems fitting to mark 25 years in the business. Hopefully, we will get some new tracks and some special formats including bonus stuff.

I'm guessing that by the time this airs (sometime from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June 2022), Steps will have announced the Greatest Hits! Seems like this will be great promo.
