There You Were - 6/10

This feels very Westlife, the chorus is quite nice though, but not enough to save this from being an album filler.

13 - Invincible. Well I’m 50% of the way there! Are the last two songs going to go out with a bang?

Although it’s nice to hear a bit more H here again.

I feel like this is a Claire Richards (featuring H) album though…

Damn I was wrong! I bet a few of you couldn’t wait for me to admit that!

A nice return to the uptempo but this is still nothing compared to the first handful of tracks!

Yes for a large part of the album but I kinda think it's better that way.

Too Close To Tears - 9/10

FINALLY something great again, its been so long after a slew of boring disney ballad fillers, this is a fantastic piece of pop that could have made a great future single choice. Why was this tucked so far away on the album.

1. All Out Of Love

Is this the one everyone says would make a great Steps song because if it is… I totally agree! I got OFS vibes inside the first 20 seconds!

Wouldn’t sound like Steps without a spot of Claire over singing would it? Ha!

By far the best song on the album and I really thought it should have been the lead single.

15. Let Me Carry You

I’m never a fan when an artist brings in a brand new sound as the last song on an album. Most people will miss it as they’ll have switched off long before. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t setting the world alight IN THE slightest (touch) but it may have slotted in a bit better elsewhere.

DJ - 9/10

A catchy disco anthem that's aged pretty well. A fantastic lead single choice for the duo.

I like dj but I've always felt its missing something that was needed to really bring it alive.

All in all, I could probably chop this album in half and make a cute EP from the best songs. It isn’t as consistent as Lisa’s but the highs are there.

All it confirms is that they are far better together!

3. Another You, Another Me

A very Claire song that wouldn’t sound out of place on My Wildest Dreams. I wouldn’t have put it this early on the album to be honest as it kills the momentum that DJ and All Out Of Love built up

Ya it's def not placed in the right spot on the album, good enough song but I agree it kills the momentum.

Let Me Carry You - 6/10

An odd way to end the album, sure its an okay mid-tempo bop, but this comes far too late into the album for it to make an impression.

4. Beauty and The Beast - I’ve always been afraid to listen to this as I adore Celine and her version but I will say this isn’t bad actually! Wouldn’t skip it if it came up on shuffle anyway! Not bad H&C!

It's not a bad version and I agree celine Dion did it better but again it's not a song I'm a huge fan of.

Half A Heart - 8/10

An interesting 2nd single choice that I don't think the public were quite ready for. But like the slight R&B tones this has which sounds very different to anything they've done before, but still has the pop chorus. A nice tune that's more of a grower.

It didn't work as a single or for them it was trying to be something different but for me failed to do that.

All I Want Is You - 8/10

I remember really LOVING this one at the time & still like it now, this brings back memories. A really strong catchy disco pop track that could easily fit into Step's back catalogue.

I think this would have been a better single choice.

My rating of each track on 'Another You Another You'

1. All Out of Love - 10
2. DJ - 9
3. Another You Another Me - 8
4. Beauty and the Beast - 5
5. Half a Heart - 8
6. All I Want Is You - 8
7. Centre of my Heart - 7
8. You’re a Love Song - 6
9. Two Hearts Beats as One - 5
10. No Turning Back - 6
11. Nothing At All - 6
12. There You Were - 6
13. Invincible - 5
14. Too Close to Tears - 9
15. Let Me Carry You - 6

My overall thoughts, there is a good album in there somewhere, it just becomes a slog about half-way with only 1 saving grace towards the end. This really didn't need to be 15 tracks long & could have easily been condensed down to a more acessibe 10 or 11 track album & been far better.

Something along the lines of this =

1. All Out Of Love
2. DJ
3. Half A Heart
4. Too Close To Tears
5. Another You Another Me
6. Beauty And The Beast
7. All I Want Is You
8. Centre Of My Heart
9. Nothing At All
10. There You Were
11. Let Me Carry You
Thanks for hosting this Yobnedor, I had a blast revisiting this again after more than 20 years.

Ya I agree it does have that westlife chorus vibe.

Glad you could join in :)

I agree and disagree, I agree the album could be chopped as it's too long for an album that is weak in areas, long albums are good if the songs are all great which isn't the case here but I still think its far far better album than Lisa's.

I wish faye and Lee had a solo album out aswell just to know what they would have came up with, faye in particular I'm surprised didn't have more solo music.
