I suppose it was inevitable really, their streaming isn’t strong to cushion the fall in physical sales.

This :(

#78 in Australia

Least it charted in aussie if nothing else.

True, I mean Gold got released back in 2001 and didn't chart. So on that front it's an improvement.

Number 14 in todays update, thats alot better than 20 although im sure very little sales separate it.

That's not too bad fingers crossed it stays top 20

Oh that's a nice surprise that it climbed a few places! Maybe some data was missing, although it could be the case that the sales are so close together. If it manages to stay Top 20 in week 2 I'll be satisfied.

These are the opening two weeks for every 2022 #1 album:

01-01 Beyoncé - Renaissance

01-02 Harry Styles - Harry's House

01-04 The Weeknd - Dawn FM

01-04 Central Cee - 23

01-04 Wet Leg - Wet Leg

01-04 Noel Gallagher - C'mon You Know

01-05 Michael Buble - Higher

01-05 Paolo Nutini - Last Night in the Bittersweet

01-06 Red Hot Chili Peppers - Unlimited Love

01-06 Digga D - Noughty by Nature

01-06 Florence + the Machine - Dance Fever

01-06 George Ezra - Gold Rush Kid

01-10 Years & Years - Night Call

01-11 Blossoms - Ribbon Around the Bomb

01-13 Stereophonics - Oochya

01-Midweek 14 Steps - Platinum Collection

01-17 Arcade Fire - We

01-24 Charli XCX - Crash

01-24 Fontaines DC - Skinty Fia

01-26 Bastille - Give Me the Future

01-34 Kasabian - The Alchemist's Euphoria

01-36 Jamie T - The Theory of Whatever

01-39 Rex Orange County - Who Cares

01-72 Frank Turner - FTHC

01-96 Wombats - Fix Yourself Not the World

01-139 Don Broco - Amazing Things *

* #1 wasn't Don Broco's first week in the chart, but it was its first week being physically available.

If Steps don't end up staying Top 10 in week 2, then it does put them within the bottom half of that list... however, it could be worse! That's quite a few albums that fell out of the Top 20.

Steps were always going to be incredibly frontloaded, because physicals are mostly a week 1 phenomenon with all the hardcore fans purchasing them right away. There isn't much to keep their sales afloat in week 2, mainly the hope that people who see them at the festivals will feel motivated to buy it. Steps' streaming is much lower compared to what the majority of artists in the above list can manage.

I looked at today's midweeks. The albums at #6 to #13 (Steps are #14) are majorly successful on streaming. Here's a comparision:

Wednesday Midweeks Positions:

06 Ed Sheeran - =

07 Beyoncé - RENAISSANCE

08 The Weeknd - The Highlights

09 Elvis Presley - Elv1s: 30 Number 1 Hits

10 ABBA - Gold: Greatest Hits

11 Queen - Greatest Hits

12 Arctic Monkeys - AM

13 Fleetwood Mac - 50 Years: Don't Stop

14 Steps - Platinum Collection

Their positions in the official Streaming Albums chart on Friday 26th August:

02 Beyoncé - RENAISSANCE

03 Ed Sheeran - =

05 The Weeknd - The Highlights

06 Elvis Presley - Elv1s: 30 Number 1 Hits

07 Fleetwood Mac - 50 Years: Don't Stop

09 ABBA - Gold: Greatest Hits

12 Queen - Greatest Hits

17 Arctic Monkeys - AM

Not Top 100: Steps - Platinum Collection

This further highlights why a plummet for Steps in week 2 was quite inevitable. It's difficult for week 2 level of physical sales to contend with albums getting thousands of sales from streaming units. Bar a couple of notable exceptions such as Michael Buble, most of those #1 albums that managed to stay Top 10 in week 2 did so because their streaming was strong enough to cushion the drop in physicals.
