Posted June 3, 20223 yr 3eGP6im8AZA The Black Phone is a 2021 American supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and produced by Jason Blum. Written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, it is an adaptation of the 2004 short story of the same name by Joe Hill. The film stars Mason Thames as an abducted child who can communicate with the past victims of his kidnapper, portrayed by Ethan Hawke. Its been pushed back a couple of times but for good reasons! The studio wanted a wide summer release because of just how good it is. Currently holds 100% on Rotten Tomatoes :o One of my most anticipated films of the year!
June 21, 20223 yr I saw it on Saturday! Amazing, really reminds me of Stranger Things / IT with a sprinkling of (a much better) Split. The best horror film I've watched in a while.
June 22, 20223 yr I really enjoyed this too! The right amount of dread and fear. "The Grabber" was really sinister and Ethan Hawke was great!
June 25, 20223 yr Just back from seeing this. It was pretty enjoyable, great acting from both child actors and the villain was suitably menacing. Felt very Stephen King in a lot of ways so not surprised it was a story written by his son! The scenes in the basement were brilliantly done, absolutely chilling especially when the children's apparitions appeared. My main issue was that I found the parts not involving Finney and that house nowhere near as interesting, the 'psychic kid' trope's been very overdone and it felt too vague and obvious to connect properly, it felt like the sister was just a plot device. I'd have liked her powers to be more developed or less obvious. Good movie overall, just didn't really need the extra sides.
June 26, 20223 yr Saw this the other day, not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised by the performances. Agreed the scenes without Fin/The Grabber were a bit dull, but still a decent watch especially given some of the god awful horrors I've seen recently. 7/10.
