Kylie has announced she's properly back in the studio as of July!

We also know she's had some sessions with long-time collaborator Biff Stannard and that she previously sited 'Fever' as the original blueprint going into these writing sessions.

Kylie also revealed in April to Wall Street Journal that she had been listening to demos:

These days, Minogue, who lives in Melbourne, has also been working on new music. “I was on the treadmill a couple of weeks ago and…listening to a new demo, trying to figure out what’s good about it, what needs changing,” she says. “It helped me get quite a few more kilometers in.”

I doubt we'll see an album by the end of the year, especially with vinyl delays, but it seems 2023 will be the year of Kylie's 16th studio album!

Does anyone have any predictions or wishes as to what 'K16' might have in store?

I know she's previously mentioned going in an electro-pop direction (which is all good with me as I'm a sucker for just about anything electro-pop - give me a full album of Timebombs and Like a Drugs!)

We've seen how the course of an album's direction can completely deviate as the process gets underway (see: Golden), so who knows? I expect it's at least a year away from now.

Maybe she'll experiment with electro-swing?

I was never really expecting an album this year, for some reason I have a March 23 release in my head. Kylie never follows the same theme on album twice as we know but for me I'd like a sound that has elements of Fever, Light years and Disco which is alot to ask for. I do think she will go an electro route for album 16 though.

March 23 in 2023 is Thursday, not an ideal date to compete for the top spot on the album chart.

Might be the day she release the lead single then, going by past experience!

Kylie now citing ‘Slow’ as inspiration for the next album in an interview with Vogue!

She’s tight-lipped on the exact direction her sixteenth studio album might take, but name-drops the sensual “Slow” as a musical reference point. Released as the lead single off of Body Language, her experimental foray into electro-pop, “Slow” became a major hit for Minogue despite sounding like nothing else on the charts in 2003. “It’s still one of my favorite songs—it doesn’t matter what you do with “Slow” or what version you play, it always works!” Minogue says. “I think about what that song did for me back in its time, and I’d like to make something like that again that pushes my boundaries a little bit.”

Suppose it’s not surprising she’s taken inspiration from ‘Slow’ given the various mashups she’s done of it in recent years! Love that she’s mentioned pushing her boundaries too. I’d love for her to revisit the good parts of Body Language and do a full-on electro-pop album.

This feels me with dread, I do like slow but I would hate another album in any similar to body language especially after golden and disco been 2 brilliant back to back studio albums.
I think she's even cited 'Slow' as being her absolute favourite song she's done on a few occasions. It's true, it's such a versatile song that works in any genre it's performed in.

I remember reading she was doing Body Language sessions and then found Slow which was decided as the route of the album, but apparently Parlophone needed Kylie to release in time for Christmas 2003 so they rushed the album. I think it Kylie had the time to put proper effort into the album, the final product would have been better than it was. I’m hoping this album she can rectify that and take her time with it.

Also, I think when she says Slow is the inspiration, I don’t think it means she wants a song or album exactly like Slow, it’s just she wants to make some music that slightly defies expectation. With BMG, she has already established herself as a reliable album seller so I think she can afford to take some slight risks.

I can see her taking the concept she had with slow but making the sound more electro with a heavier beat and faster type sound. With body language, rushed or not i think she just took the wrong direction completely, slow was good but the sound she was aiming for just didnt work with the album and it was a really disappointing follow up to fever in every aspect, i always expected the follow up to fever to be a sure fire number 1 but body language was way off the mark.

I’ve heard fans say Neon Nights by Dannii is the album Kylie should have followed Fever up with and I do agree slightly.

Wouldn't be the worst choice for her.

I am perhaps in the minority of wanting her to be done with the disco~ sound and moving back to something more raw and heartfelt and along the lines of some of her more experimental albums! It'd be far more exciting and unexpected and she has accomplished everything and more so why not produce the music she's most passionate about. If she's giving us 'Slow' part 2, I say bring it on!
