unfortunately the German reviews are pay only. But reading the red herring first sentences they all say the old Robbie is back. If he continues like this and can keep up the level than this tour will be a similar success as the tour 2003.

Who would have thought this? Looking forward to the next show in Holland and Cologne.

I agree Elisabeth, he seems to be really enjoying this tour, you can see it in his body language . It's a long way to go but he has some breaks in between so hopefully he can keep it up

Robbie Williams sings in front of 16,000 fans in the Lanxess Arena

Robbie Williams is on a big European tour. In Cologne alone he has appeared on the stage of the Lanxess Arena three times. In addition to hits like "Feel" and "Let Me Entertain You", he speaks openly about his feelings and decisions.

Cologne – An eleven-piece band, six dancers and a video wall that is larger than a volleyball field: everything is prepared for a mega show in the Lanxess Arena. But then Robbie Williams surprises at the first of three sold-out concerts in Cologne with a very personal recital.

In September 2022, the British musician, who will be celebrating his 49th birthday in a few days, released what is now his tenth(!) compilation album, "XXV", with revised and newly recorded hits from his solo career, which has now lasted more than 25 years and which began in 1997 started with the album Life Thru a Lens. On the occasion of this anniversary, Williams is currently touring through the arenas of Europe and letting the visitors - around 16,000 at the number one appearance in Cologne - participate in the big career stations and private landmarks. Sometimes serious, mostly cheerful, he talks almost more than he sings, and moderates his hits full of anecdotes and deep personal insights in an eloquent manner: "Let Me Entertain You", "Come Undone", "Love My Life", "Eternity", "Feel", "She's the One" and many more. Robbie Williams is no longer a teen heartthrob, there are still languishing fans behind the barriers. They sing along to all the songs of their superstar in sparkling mail.

The singer was literally showered with prizes and awards in his solo career, 18 Brit Awards and twelve Echos are in the home showcase. These trophies also went to Take That, arguably the most successful boy band of all time, who launched Robbie Williams' career. He takes the listeners in Cologne on a journey through time to the year 1990: "We should take the music landscape by storm," he recalls the time before the breakthrough and shows excerpts from the band's first video for "Do What U Like", a in retrospect highly distressing production with the bare buttocks of the musicians. "The video sucks! Nobody should see it,” says Williams with a mischievous grin, knowing full well that thousands upon thousands of visitors will be able to see it extensively at his concerts in the coming weeks.

He thought they would become a gang at Take That, he recalls. "But there was nothing like that. There was tension among five young men who were fighting for their positions in life and this new thing called show business,” he says, deconstructing the artificial ideal world image of the past. "After a while I noticed that Gary Barlow was singing all our songs and I was like, 'Why don't I get a chance to sing? When she came, I grabbed her with both hands," he announces the Take That hit "Could It Be Magic," but quickly interrupts the song to get annoyed with a listener who's mockingly snapped the grandstand leaves her seat: "Where are you going? To the toilet? No, go! Don't stay here just because you ruined the show!” The audience roars with laughter.

Robbie Williams is a master of the balancing act: one moment he's dead serious, the next he's fooling around. Sometimes he's the roughneck, then every mother-in-law's dream, on the one hand a cuddly singer, on the other a rock star. However, he was never a turning neck. No one who foxtails, who flies around like a flag in the British coastal wind. He's authentic, uncomfortable, rough-edged, always good for the unexpected, who caused wide eyes and shakes of the head, who savored his fame, broke rules and at some point came close to all that life as a celebrity entails, to perish.

"A voice in my head made me believe I wasn't good enough and didn't deserve to be on stage," he said in Cologne, giving an insight into his inner life. In 2006 he decided to resign. "I didn't tell anyone, but I did it. I sat on the sofa and grew a beard, I looked like a serial killer. I was so depressed during that time that I wondered a few times what the point of being on this planet was when it was so painful.” Two things would have saved him: his wife Ayda and his fans, who continue to support him shows came.

Then he darkens the hall and sings "Angels" while thousands of cell phone lights glow in the audience. A wonderfully emotional ending.
