Luton Town have named ex-Watford boss Rob Edwards as their new manager on a "minimum three-and-a-half year" deal.

The 39-year-old replaces Nathan Jones, who left the Championship club last week after being appointed by Premier League side Southampton.

Edwards was appointed by Watford in May and sacked on 26 September after only 11 games in charge, winning three.

"From the outside, looking in at Luton Town, you see such a well-run football club," he told the club website.

Sabri Lamouchi's first game as Cardiff boss ended in defeat as Elijah Adebayo scored a late winner to move Luton into the Championship play-off places.

Adebayo made amends after Ryan Allsop looked to have earned Cardiff a point by saving Adebayo's tame penalty after Cedric Kipre's handball.

Cardiff are winless in 12 games and only three points above the relegation zone having not won since 5 November.

The English Football League says it is reviewing Reading's finances amid reports the Championship club is about to receive a six-point deduction.

The punishment would see the club drop from 14th in the table to 19th, and seven points above the relegation zone.

The Royals were deducted six points for breaching financial rules in 2021.

A further six-point deduction was suspended until the end of 2022-23 provided they hit targets outlined in a business plan agreed with the EFL.

Manager Mick McCarthy has left Championship strugglers Blackpool after less than three months in charge.

Appointed in January until the end of the season, he managed only two wins from 14 matches in all competitions.

A 3-1 home defeat by Cardiff on Friday left Blackpool second bottom of the table, seven points from safety.

No surprise really he was a strange appointment this time last year although I thought he did ok!

Noel Hunt is an interesting choice!
