August 24, 20222 yr even if it wasn't a #1 debut, it would have been - a remix mid week, music week the folllowing week, dr luke, rumours of radio deals
August 24, 20222 yr Yes it was definitely 'always going to be #1', just look at all of her previous solo songs that have got to #1.
September 5, 20222 yr Yes it was definitely 'always going to be #1', just look at all of her previous solo songs that have got to #1. there's much more of a strategy nowadays. look at the TROLLS saga and Say Something. Nicki is playing the #1 game more than she did before.
September 6, 20222 yr So that explains why 'Do We Have A Problem?', 'Bussin' and 'We Go Up' all debuted at #1 as well!
September 6, 20222 yr none of them had remixes and radio plays and weren't designated to a pop audience dear. saying that DWHAP did do well on R&B radio
September 6, 20222 yr Radio has nothing to do with it lol. It combined her usual massive first week digital sales with being actually popular on streaming which her songs usually aren't. And if being 'designated to a pop audience' was such an obvious winner for her (hip-hop usually does better on streaming than pop btw) then why didn't any of her previous pop singles go to #1? (And yes all the songs I just mentioned did have multiple versions as well, not to mention that the Barbs always download both the explicit and clean versions anyway even without any remixes)
September 6, 20222 yr because of the different audience - SFG was teased on TikTok long before it came out - radio deals etc.
September 6, 20222 yr And if being 'designated to a pop audience' was such an obvious winner for her (hip-hop usually does better on streaming than pop btw) then why didn't any of her previous pop singles go to #1? Radio has nothing to do with it lol. (she had 4.6 million audience impressions in its week at #1, that's not going to have been make or break for it, and even if it was that would just make it even more absurd to claim it was "always" going to be #1)
September 12, 20222 yr Oh no... here we go: @1569161943340191745 GAHHHH! If it is a lie, that's a very serious accusation and Nicki really needs to stop doing this shit. It completely undoes all the goodwill towards her! She always seems to get a good thing going then f***s it up by opening her mouth with some controversial shit just to get people "talking"... EVERY TIME. It's a damn shame coz just when I start liking her music again... she pulls this. The worst thing is, this song is smashing and doesn't need the controversy or drama over shadowing it :(
September 12, 20222 yr Megan is 10x the person Nicki ever was/is. She doesn't deserve any of this. I do think it might be her toxic nasty fans but at the same time I really wouldn't be surprised if she did say that.
September 17, 20222 yr Defending this against Dannjohn's peculiar comments aside, this song is actually absolute garbage oops. Although I do like her flow in the second verse. It's just ruined by one of the most irritating hooks I've heard in a long time, and a pretty awkward flow in the first verse. Plus we didn't need another big rap hit sampling 'Super Freak' when 'U Can't Touch This' already exists. Good for her getting that solo #1 I guess, not that I really want to be rooting for her as a person either.
September 18, 20222 yr What is particularly wrong with me suggesting there was a bigger push for this to be #1 than Problem or Bussin? May i ask…
September 18, 20222 yr What is particularly wrong with me suggesting there was a bigger push for this to be #1 than Problem or Bussin? May i ask… Nothing, but that’s not specifically what your initial post said. You stated that Super Freaky Girl was “always going to be #1” (only after that outcome occurred). A bold claim considering the fact that she had no previous precedent for making it to #1 (as a solo artist) - and additionally it wasn’t the predicted outcome that week. It’s just a curious statement to make when there’s no evidence to support it. It possibly having a bigger push than two previous singles =/= “always going to be #1”. If anything she defied the odds for this to make it to #1.
September 18, 20222 yr it was just a gut thought of mine if i'm perfectly honest - SFG came out of nowhere, had the TikToK push prior to it's release. Problem and Bussin (although fantastic songs) just don't really have that same NUMBER ONE vibe about them - if that makes sense?
September 19, 20222 yr You calling 'Bussin' a fantastic song is possibly the most bizarre thing you've said in this thread so far x ('Do We Have A Problem?' was a tune tho) (in all seriousness though, what Jay said - it was just a weirdly dismissive tone to take about something that is a significant achievement for an artist who's been releasing music for over a decade and never achieved this before, and was absolutely not being widely predicted to achieve it this time either)
