My ReviewNow That’s What I Call Music! 108 aka Now 108 was the start of the compilation series listing artist names on the front cover which hadn’t been done since Now 19. This volume was released in the Spring of 2021 and it contained 46 tracks with 2 UK #1 singles. This was the first volume to feature music from Olivia Rodrigo, The Kid LAROI and Navos.

Despite a bumper 46 tracks, there were of course still some omissions, and from this era the artists overlooked for a placement included LadBaby, CJ, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, BTS, Taylor Swift, SZA, Fredo, Central Cee and others.

Up until the time of this review, this is the only volume to contain music from Glass Animals, Shane Codd, HVME, Nathan Evans, Lil Tjay and Sabrina Carpenter.

Artwork Rating: 6/10 Good

Some sort of swirls or spikes, I can’t really tell. It’s definitely an original album cover but not really too much to say about it really. Use of colours is good. It is more striking seeing the artist names on the bottom of the album, which I wasn’t sure about at first, but we gave quickly gotten used to it this way now.

Disc 1 Favourite: Liam Gallagher – All You're Dreaming Of

It was such a pleasant surprise to see this rather festive song make a post-Christmas appearance in the Now series. One of the best ballads I’ve discovered in recent years and sang so well by Liam with real emotion. A wonderful track to be included.

Disc 2 Favourite: Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Crying At The Discotheque

What a joy to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor back on a Now volume after such a very long absence, and with a pure disco infused blend of pop. Of course the song was a cover of a song from Alcazar from 2001, but it was such a fun song to feature on this volume mixed in with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Steps and Lady Gaga!

Disc 3 Tracklist:

(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Ed Sheeran – Afterglow 3:05 {2}

2. Justin Bieber – Anyone 3:11 {4}

3. Ladbaby – Don't Stop Me Eatin' 4:02 {1}

4. United Kingdolls – UK Hun 2:46 {27}

5. Lil Nas X – HOLIDAY 2:35 {23}

6. CJ – Whoopty 2:03 {3}

7. Fredo feat. Dave – Money Talks 4:34 {3}

8. SZA – Good Days 4:39 {13}

9. Saweetie feat. Doja Cat – Best Friend 2:36 {35}

10. Megan Thee Stallion – Body 2:51 {44}

11. Digga D feat. AJ Tracey – Bringing It Back 3:11 {5}

12. Central Cee – Loading 2:53 {19}

13. Rudimental feat. MORGAN, Digga D & TIKE – Be The One 3:06 {49}

14. Rita Ora, David Guetta & Imanbek feat. Gunna – Big 2:37 {53}

15. Silk City feat. Ellie Goulding – New Love 3:11 {65}

16. Paul Woolford feat. Amber Mark – Heat 3:07 {61}

17. Bicep – Apricots 4:07 {42}

18. Imanbek & Goodboys – Goodbye 2:24 {59}

19. Duncan Lawrence – Arcade 3:05 {29}

20. BTS – Life Goes On 3:27 {10}

21. Taylor Swift – Willow 3:35 {3}

22. Lana Del Rey – Chemtrails Over The Country Club 4:31 {58}

23. Billie Eilish & ROSALÍA – Lo Vas A Olvidar 3:23 {35}

24. Griff – Love Is A Compass 3:01 {42}

----------

Total time: 1:18:00

Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good

It feels like a very strong volume despite having only 2 UK #1 singles, and it also needs to be mentioned that one of these somgs, Wellerman was not the version that got to #1 so this was a glaring disappointment to see that the 220 KID / Billen Ted remix was not used. I can’t recall another volume with so many songs that did not chart, a total of 11 across both discs. The omissions don’t seem to be that disappointing to have not been included, however there certainly could have been more chartable songs added instead of so many DNC’s.

My Best 5 (as of September 2022)

1. Liam Gallagher – All You're Dreaming Of

2. RAYE & Rudimental – Regardless

3. Tiësto – The Business

4. Shane Codd – Get Out My Head

Dream & Pmbata – Roadtrip {75}

This one had bizarre sequencing at the start, the only time three non top 20 hits have been among the first five songs I'd imagine.

The Jennifer Lopez to Steps segment of flops on Disc 2 was welcome, that section certainly knows its target audience :lol:

I went 6/10 for artwork and overall, and Save Your Tears and To The Beat Of My Heart as my favourite songs. For what they had to play with, it's a decent enough tracklist but strangely sequenced in parts which drags it down a little.

My top 5 are:

1. Riton x Nightcrawlers feat. Mufasa & Hypeman - Friday (Dopamine Re-Edit)

2. Anne-Marie x KS1 x Digital Farm Animals - Don't Play

3. Cardi B - Up

4. Jason Derulo feat. Adam Levine - Lifestyle

5. Billie Eilish - Therefore I Am

Wellerman would've been at no. 1 if the 220 KID x Billen Ted remix would've been on it.

'We're Good' in the beginning of that advert when it was a top 30 only :tearsmile:

Anyway I voted very good for the artwork, Miley x2 and good for the tracklisting.
