REACH 2022 - One More Thing - Robbie Williams and the dDeaflinks Choir - Angel (Special Edition)

The culmination of our REACH 2022 Awards was this special version of Angels - performed by Robbie Williams and the dDeaflinks Choir.

Before the song, Robbie paid this tribute to the wonderful staff of North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust.

"Hi there. It’s Robbie Williams here. As a local lad, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the amazing work you do and the care you provide for the people of the most fabulous place in the world. :I can’t be with you in person tonight, but I can be with you in spirit. So, by way of thanks, I thought you might enjoy this special performance of one of my songs. "As the song says through it all, you offer those you care for protection, a lot of love and affection and when they come to call, you never forsake them. I hope you’ve had a great evening and be really, really proud of yourselves – just as we all are of YOU”

Robbie Williams and more in MDR music show

22.11.2022, 16:03

Robbie Williams, Sarah Connor, Max Giesinger and more sing their hits in a new guise in the MDR music show "Your Songs".

It sounds a bit like "Sing my song": In "Your Song" singers like Michael Patrick Kelly (44) and Max Giesinger (34) meet, tell anecdotes and present their hits in a new guise. However, they sing their songs themselves here. "Your Song" is already available in the ARD media library from November 22nd . The show then starts on November 26 at 11:15 p.m. on the first and on December 3 at 8:15 p.m. on the MDR.

Jeanette Biedermann (42) and Gregor Meyle (44) are the hosts of "Your Song". In addition to Kelly and Giesinger , they also welcome Sarah Connor (42) and Johannes Oerding (40) to the show. The makers were also able to win an international star: Robbie Williams (48) is doing the honors.

However, the former British singer does not sit on the couch next to the German musicians in all four episodes. The participants, including Meyle and Biedermann, sing their songs live, accompanied by a studio band or the MDR Symphony Orchestra.

Robbie Williams inspires in the Elbphilharmonie

h4yxUpx.png

When Robbie Williams was kicked out of the boy band Take That in 1995, few would have predicted a long solo career for him. He was the rebel who drew attention to himself with excess drugs and partying. But then Williams wrote a ballad called "Angels" and in the following years became one of the biggest pop stars in Europe. Since then he has been declared dead more than once - and more than once he has come back impressively. In August, the 48-year-old gave one of the biggest concerts of his career in Munich in front of 100,000 fans.

For his album "XXV", which was released in September, he has now re-recorded some of his greatest hits with an orchestra, and these are exactly what the Elphi program is about. Accompanied by more than 80 musicians from the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt under the direction of conductor Steve Sidwell, songs like "Feel", "Strong" or "Come Undone", which you sometimes had the feeling of having heard too often, shine in fresh clothes - and give you goosebumps.

There is frenetic applause for the opulent new version of "Millennium", "No Regrets" suddenly sounds like the next James Bond soundtrack and "Angels" has its world premiere in a Beethoven AI version. The artificial intelligence that completed Beethoven's 10th symphony last year interwoven Williams' hit with the moonlight sonata.

Williams dances, swings and moonwalks to all this exuberantly across the stage and is obviously having a lot of fun. Williams has the 2,000 fans – including Ina Müller and Gregory Porter – completely under control for over 100 minutes. He just still has that superstar aura. Grown women suddenly start giggling like teenagers. And men also lie at his feet. A visitor in the elevator told us before the show that he's actually a metal fan, but Robbie Williams is simply a great entertainer.

Again and again Williams seeks contact with his audience that evening. He jokes around, gives compliments and high-fives. In between, he talks honestly about his life. About how Spice Girls' Geri Halliwell helped him get sober and then he wrote the song "Eternity" for her. About the backpack full of anger and resentment that he carried around for years after being kicked out of Take That, about depression and fear, about loneliness and addiction. He left all of that behind. That's why he dedicated "Love My Life" to "the people who saved me and made me happy".

Long run away from marriage and children

He had long vowed never to have children and therefore, to be on the safe side, not to marry. "I've been in a relationship for 17 years now and have four children. What I've been running from for years was just what I needed. But how was I supposed to know that?”

And who should have known that a concert for a mobile phone provider - the performance took place in the series of Telekom Street Gigs - would be so personal? "I had a very special evening," Williams sums up at the end. "I'd like to do more shows like this where I'm telling something about myself and I'm vulnerable. But this orchestra is really very expensive..."

Gregory Porter was in the audience .. Wow ! :o

Interesting little mention from a Gregory Porter interview back in 2017 :

‘Some are artists who even if they are influenced by jazz would be scared to say it,’ he tells. ‘They’re gonna put me in that bin and no one will know what it is, they say, like it’s too highbrow for the every man to understand. Or it’s something that’s not connected to the modern world and having fun.

‘For me it’s like saying “I don’t like water” – the umbrella is so wide, people are touched by jazz and people don’t even know it. Like when Jill Scott or Mary J Blige – or even ‘ultra-popular’ artists like One Direction, Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake – when these guys do something in a jazz style I think they don’t even realise it.

“Star Academy”: the tone rises at the castle while waiting for Robbie Williams and Polnareff

Between Léa and Enola, the tone rises gently against the backdrop of a “propaganda” campaign. After a return to calm, the cries will start again with the announcement of the prestigious guests present at the final on Saturday evening.

And there is heavy for the final in prime time: Nolwenn Leroy, Christophe Maé, Lara Fabian and even Michel Polnareff. At the end of the public vote, the two best candidates will have the right to a duet with Robbie Williams, international star and sponsor of this 2022 edition.

Oh, OK, The FINAL is actually this Saturday :)

“Star Academy”: the tone rises at the castle while waiting for Robbie Williams and Polnareff. Between Léa and Enola, the tone rises gently against the backdrop of a “propaganda” campaign. After a return to calm, the cries will start again with the announcement of the prestigious guests present at the final on Saturday evening.

Sporty atmosphere to start the week at the castle of the "Star Academy" on TF 1 ! It is coach Joe who launches the day of Monday in the summary of the day before broadcast this Tuesday. “I was impressed with the prime. Cheer. But it confirms that you have to be fit! It was speed. If you don't have any conditions, you won't be ready, ”he insists from the start. Elastic, trampoline, pump, he spares nothing to the last four survivors. "For once when I come, he hasn't missed us", comments Léa, a little tired.

It is then the turn of Adeline Toniutti, the singing teacher, to make the candidates work in pairs. Objective: to make them reach their vocal Everest, the highest notes they are able to reach in the treble. And what better than Celine Dion to train. On “All By Myself”. Louis and Léa come out with congratulations. “I was at the top there,” Léa compliments herself. Enola and Anisha are not to be outdone and also amaze their teacher. “I didn't think it was possible for me to climb that high. Like what, it's important to work on the technique”, concludes Anisha.

"I want the song with Lara Fabian, it's for me, it's waiting for me"

Always a little provocative, Léa takes advantage of being almost alone in the large building to launch her own advertising campaign: she has posted posters in all the rooms marked “Vote Léa” . A promo little appreciated by Enola. “Stop Léa, it's propaganda there! To get revenge, the latter will replace the number of the candidate with hers, 3. Between the two girls, the match does not stop there: crying revenge, Léa the rebel does not hesitate to steal the minute telephone of the brunette Enola… All ending in screams…

Calm has returned, and after a great improvisation sequence with Soprano who has come to give his masterclass, it's time for the announcements for Saturday, with Lucie Bernardoni and Marlène Schaff, the coaches. Enough to motivate the ineffable Léa. "I want the song with Lara Fabian, it's for me, it's waiting for me," she enthuses.

Emotional sequence to end this tough day at the castle: each of the candidates being given fan letters. If Anisha cannot hold back her tears when reading her mail, Léa, also moved, still wins the prize for the short sentence with a disconcerting: "This is the first time that I have received a letter that someone wrote ( sic) with his hands…”

That's funny to read in Feel now that Robbie told he possibly would never performed this song again! :D

So great he decided to return THIS song for us and ordinary listeners. One of his best.

Great performance too.

I like the fact he sang XXV versions during this show.

Can you remember why he said that at the time Alex. I need to read that book again .

I promised myself that I would read Reveal again , never really got into it , maybe I will take it with me on my travels next year & have another go :)

2 finalistes défendront leur place sur des duos samedi :

- "The Winner Takes It All" de ABBA

- Les chansons "Angels" et "Suprême" AVEC Robbie Williams

He told it because it's too personal song for him and it's difficult to perform it often, and didn't sure he would perform it anytime again.
