Miss You definitely coming to be a big hit then.

Could even be an early shout for the next #1 with that rapid climb today?

Is Miss You taking off on TikTok? Surprised both versions have climbed like that in two days when they’ve been out for a little while now. Major GAH at Southstar lagging so far behind.

Of course!

Pretty sure this is the next #1

I'm thinking next #1 too. It's increased 60k on Spotify in one day, if it replicated that again it would be #10 by today's numbers. An inevitable add to HHUK etc... will give it another boost. It'll be interesting to see whether the Southstar version gets any playlisting support.

Oddly it doesn't appear to be in the Apple top 100 yet though, but that could just be slow to update properly.

Oliver Tree potentially getting a Top 10 in the coming weeks, what a time.

Worth it if it means he gets interviewed on the chart show

Miss You is a BOP I've just listened to it 5 times in a row it's strangely addictive even if the vocal is a little grating :funky:

'Miss You' hitting #1 would really be some severely conflicting feelings for me. In terms of just how it sounds it would be up there with my favourite #1s of the year (possibly 2nd to Kate). But I still hate it for the circumstances around its existence. (Unless something is worked out for the 2 versions to be combined so I can just pretend it's the southstar version doing best )

I guess the one positive from the copycat situation is it actually counting as a hit for Oliver Tree, it's definitely a lot better than his other song that charted.

It's definitely an earworm, I can see why it's going viral. I agree the vocal sounds a little grating at first but I immediately wanted to listen again.

It must be a while since we've had one of these 'two versions' controversies where both have actually charted. That is if as seems very likely they will be counted separately for chart purposes. Cabin Crew/Sunset Strippers from 2005 is the most recent one that comes to mind but i'm sure i've forgotten something else.

Lol at Jack trying to explain what’s happened if they do indeed chart separately and make the top 40

(Which I think is quite likely tbh)

There was also the Lay Me Down fiasco in 2015 when the charity version (with John Legend) charted separately to the solo album version.

A similar situation happened last year with Goosebumps which originally was credited solely to Hvme and had a no-name vocalist before Travis Scott did his own re-recording to the same backing track and shunted Hvme to being the secondary artist (though at least he did get a credit instead of some big DJ who had next to no input on the song's production).

I do wonder if now that it's gaining the chart the label will end up adding Southstar as a credited artist to the Oliver Tree/Robin Schulz version, and then have the two versions combined. As that could end up being what pushes it to be a #1 hit at the rate it's climbing now.

The two versions of 'Miss You' have both debuted on global Spotify today too - and sadly Schulz is winning worldwide as well, in at #89 with southstar at #141.

At least Germany, where the southstar version has already been a hit for a while, isn't yet buckling as southstar holds at #8 there today while Schulz is new at #101. Actually southstar even has a second current top 100 in Germany with 'We Are The People' at #68 (an Empire Of The Sun remix). I guess Germany is responsible for southstar currently having a bigger total stream count but that's not going to last long at this rate as things stand :(

Moaning about that aside, hooray for another big new peak for Zach Bryan today!

Are they on the same label? Short of all involved coming to some sort of resolution where all versions are credited to the three involved artists, I can’t see how they won’t continue to chart separately.

Nope, Southstar is Sony and Oliver/Robin is Atlantic.

It's not really the same thing but there were two versions of Empire State Of Mind and Don't Stop Believin being hits at the same time.

I was more thinking of two versions of a new song where there were shenanigans involved as to what was the authentic version etc... I guess the Goosebumps situation is the closest thing we've had recently.

Anyway Miss You is becoming more addictive with every listen, actually rooting for this to be the next #1 now.

HVME wasn't the same thing either though, the version with Travis' vocals was an official remix of the (solo) HVME version.

This situation is more analogous to stuff like 'Gym And Tonic' and 'Please Don't Go', but it's wild that this could still happen in the streaming era where the original version is just as readily available.

'Miss You' (Oliver Tree/Robin Schulz version) has finally shown up on Apple Music at #97 anyway. southstar is #38 in the Apple Music dance chart (Oliver/Robin are #22) so that might possibly be top 200 as well? I don't have the Apple Music app on my phone, don't know if there's a way to check the 101-200 section anywhere else.

Oliver Tree/Schulz are now up to #86, the southstar version isn’t top 200 as of yet
