Posted October 10, 20222 yr Dope as we know it on ARTPOP was originally called I Wanna Be With You. The demo version was performed at the iTunes festival before the album dropped. But which version of the song do you prefer. You can listen to both below before voting, especially if you are unfamiliar with the latter. 1iSd_wTuA3U 7NE3BozSZ28
October 10, 20222 yr Author Starting this off by saying that both are stunning masterpieces.
October 10, 20222 yr 'I Wanna Be With You' with considerable ease, it's stunning. 'Dope' completely ruins it for me. I wish it had just been left as it is.
October 10, 20222 yr 'I Wanna Be With You' with considerable ease, it's stunning. 'Dope' completely ruins it for me. I wish it had just been left as it is. Snap! I remember enjoying 'I Wanna Be With You' a lot at Swinefest and then not feeling it in studio form
October 10, 20222 yr Author I am probably the forum's biggest Dope supporter. However, I Wanna Be With You is insanely special too. This is tough but going for the song I'm much more familiar with. If I Wanna Be With You was on the album it may be my favourite but I just don't know it as well.
October 11, 20222 yr Author I Wanna Be With You leading despite being an unreleased demo version of a song! shook~
October 11, 20222 yr This is hard because I adore the reference to Born This Way on IWBWY. I think Dope wins this because of the topic and familiarity.
October 11, 20222 yr Author Even though it's a similar song in many ways, the key difference is that Dope is raw, unapologetic, brutal and painful whereas IWBWY is beautiful, loving and more delicate. It's clear why she chose Dope for the ARTPOP era given her thoughts and feelings at the time. :(
October 11, 20222 yr Wasn't it the case her label made her change it? I remember reading that somewhere.
October 11, 20222 yr Author Crazy if they did because IWBWY is obviously the safer choice of the two and more wide appealing. I assumed it was Gaga that wanted Dope instead :o
October 13, 20222 yr i've always loved both, though not heard the original in years but i do rememeber thinking how disjointed Dope sounded.
October 13, 20222 yr 'Dope' is a mess, like most of its parent album it's an example of her being wanky, try-hard pretentious and completely missing the mark - resulting in her mutilating what was a perfectly lovely song.
October 13, 20222 yr Author Dope is a raw, unfiltered, painful ballad :( I think it's heartbreaking not pretentious :( yes it isn't "lovely" necessarily but it shouldn't be given the subject matter of most of the album!
