November 29, 20222 yr SHE'S THE ONE - Released NOV 8th 1998 @1590014470449139713 This simple piano ballad about finding a soulmate was originally recorded by the British rock band World Party for their 1997 album, Egyptology. The band's frontman Karl Wallinger told The Daily Telegraph he wrote the song in "10 minutes and recorded it in an hour." Despite the song winning an Ivor Novello Award in 1997, "She's The One" wasn't a hit for World Party. However, Guy Chambers, who'd played with Kurt Wallinger's outfit before becoming Robbie Williams' songwriting partner, heard the track when he was helping out on Egyptology. He suggested to Williams that he should record the tune for his I've Been Expecting You album. Featuring a restrained, almost whispered vocal from the singer it was released as the fourth single from the LP, becoming Williams' second solo #1 single in the UK. "It was very strange," Wallinger recalled. "Nobody phoned to say they were doing it and they used the band I'd just been on a road with to record it." Kurt Wallinger criticized Williams' version of his song and in annoyance the former Take That singer dropped it from his stage performances. Wallenger said that it irritated him because, "Robbie didn't sing the right words, 'cause he can't read probably. It was a weird one: you lose your friends but you make loads of money." Wallinger added at a World Party concert in London in September 2011: "The only difference between me and Robbie Williams is that I know who 'she' is." The song went on to win a number of awards, including a BRIT Award for Single of the Year and Best British Video in 2000. Meanwhile, Wallinger was struggling; World Party's Dumbing Up album was released in 2000 but it failed to trouble the charts and the following year he suffered a brain aneurysm which left him unable to speak. It took him five years to recover, and the royalty checks from "She's the One" were a lifesaver as he recuperated at home. "The song had a much better time than me, popping off to the BRITs while I was at home eating crackers dipped in water," he said. "But it was lucky it was a hit. It's saved my ass financially for a few years while I was holding onto the handrail thinking, what happened?" Williams said that he wanted to cover this song because the World Party original meant "an awful lot" to him after he left rehab for cocaine addiction in 1997. He continued: "I wanted one of those kinds of ballads on my album. I wanted to sing that song. And I wanted that song to be heard by loads of people." The problem was, Williams rarely publicly acknowledged that it was Wallinger, not him, who wrote the song. It wasn't until November 2019, during a commercial for his album The Christmas Present, that Williams made light of the spat, with the singer joking that he wrote "She's the One" for Amazon's Alexa. The device responds that he didn't write the song, to which Williams confesses: "No, I didn't." Directed by Nic Goffey and Dominic Hawley, the video sees Williams playing a coach to an ice-skating couple, portrayed by professional figure skaters Pamela O'Connor and Jonathon O'Dougherty. When O'Dougherty gets injured during practice, Williams takes his place for the final and receives full marks. Williams had tuition from Olympic gold medalist Robin Cousins for the clip. One Direction performed a duet of this song with Williams during the final of The X Factor in December 2010. The band were subsequently eliminated from the competition the following day, finishing in third place overall. "She's the One" was the fourth single released from Williams' album I've Been Expecting You. It was released as a double A-side along with FIFA 2000 theme song "It's Only Us." "She's the One" has since sold over 600,000 copies and been certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/robbie-williams/shes-the-one SHE'S THE ONE - WORLD PARTY lsErzVYKUis SHE THE ONE - ROBBIE WILLIAMS sVaRHJn_dgM UPDATE Area Resident’s Album of the Week: World Party | Egyptology Vinyl Reissue I think if Wallinger had dropped six songs, he would have had another Goodbye Jumbo on his hands. Like that album, this one is mostly him playing everything — apart from drums by Chris Sharrock on six tracks. There’s a guy who’s had quite a career — currently the drummer for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, he also replaced Zak Starkey as the Oasis drummer. He was also in The La’s — yeah, that’s him on There She Goes. And he was the long-time drummer for Robbie Williams. Fun fact about Williams: The former Take That vocalist actually had a huge hit with a cover of World Party‘s song She’s The One from, yep, Egyptology. Sharrock played on both. The song won Wallinger an Ivor Novello Award in 1997. Williams took his cover to No. 1 the following year, giving Wallinger a heap of royalties on which to live while he was forced to take a five-year break from music due to an aneurysm in early 2001. It left him with nearly no peripheral vision, but able to resume performing in 2006. https://tinnitist.com/2022/11/28/area-resid...-vinyl-reissue/
December 7, 20222 yr SUPREME - Released DEC 11th 2000 This song is about the pursuit of love. Despite having been in multiple relationships throughout his life, Robbie Williams laments he still hasn't found "a love supreme," with the former Take That member sighing in the song's opening verse: "All the best women are married. All the handsome men are gay." Williams' love life was the subject of intense scrutiny in the British press at the time. In the late '90s he broke off an engagement to All Saints member Nicole Appleton, who subsequently went on to marry Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. Williams, meanwhile, was linked to the likes of Australian actress Nicole Kidman and New Zealand model Rachel Hunter before settling down to marry American actress Ayda Field in August 2010. "Supreme" samples the strings from Gloria Gaynor's 1978 hit "I Will Survive." According to Williams, he came up with the idea to use the sample while celebrating New Year's Eve in Switzerland. "I was in this town square for 12 o'clock, and the fireworks go off, and it was wonderful, and I was sober, and it was the best New Year I've ever had," he said. "I'm in the middle of this square, watching them all go mad to that stringline, and I go, 'I'm having that, that's going in a song.'" The music video for "Supreme" is a tribute to the British Formula One racing driver Jackie Stewart. Williams portrays Bob Williams, a fictitious rival driver competing alongside Stewart in the 1969 World Championship. Directed by Vaughan Arnell, the video includes stock footage of Stewart with Williams digitally inserted into a number of scenes. Following several heated battles, Williams ultimately ends up losing the title to Stewart after suffering from a bout of diarrhea and getting locked inside his trailer prior to the final race. Williams recorded the song in swing style for his 2013 album Swings Both Ways, his second swing album, following 2001's Swing When You're Winning. "Supreme" was the third single released from Williams' third album, Sing When You're Winning. The song peaked at #4 in the UK. Williams also recorded several international-language versions, with the French translation of the song peaking at #12 in France. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/robbie-williams/supreme ULTtWUZhD9c ( nice to see folk still posting comments on this video after all this time ) rDps-0_pX74 eub8TyGEh5k Video thanks tT-RW BB0pUxYQDqU Reaction to :: Robbie Williams - Supreme - A Bridge To Behold ( Recent review ) The bridge of the song contains an interpolation of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". January 20, 20232 yr ROCK DJ - ( ALBUM - SING WHEN YOU'RE WINNING - JULY 2000 E23PuQJnrOs Songfacts®: This song is about a guy who is trying to impress a female disc jockey. He busts some braggadocios raps, but it has no effect. In the video, Williams tries to get her attention by gradually taking his clothes off. Even after he's completely naked, it has no effect, so he rips off his flesh and throws it around the club. When he is finally reduced to bones, that's when she goes for him. The video, which was directed by Williams' frequent collaborator Vaughan Arnell, caused major controversy at the time due to its gory content. Most television channels cut the video before Williams started stripping, with some running an alternative clip altogether showing Williams recording "Rock DJ" in the studio. The video was also banned in the Dominican Republic after allegations of Satanism. Despite the controversy, the video was critically acclaimed and won a number of awards, including British Video of the Year at the BRITs and Best Visual Effects at the MTV VMAs in 2001. The Blockheads' Ian Dury of "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" fame was one of the primary inspirations behind this song. Williams and Dury became friends through their work for the children's charity UNICEF, before Dury's death in March 2000. According to Williams, Dury spiritually channeled this song through him: "I actually just went, 'Ian Dury, please send me a rhythm?' And then he went, 'Singing in the classes, music for your masses, give no head, no backstage passes.'" Williams makes reference to A Tribe Called Quest's "Can I Kick It?" when he asks that question and is answered with "Yes you can." "Rock DJ" also paraphrases a quote from "La Di Da Di" by Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick ("But when I rock the mic, I rock the mic (Right)"). Williams said at the time: "I really struggled to write the lyrics, so what I've just done is I've robbed loads of really old rap lyrics." Robbie Williams performed this song at the 2018 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony held in Moscow on June 14, 2018. In typically cheeky mood, he changed the lyrics just moments before sticking his middle finger up at the camera. The line in the song should be: Pimping ain't easy Most of them fleece me Every night But Williams belted out: Most of them fleece me I did this for free The UK coverage of the opening ceremony missed the controversial moment, but in the US, where giving the bird and big sporting events don't mix (like MIA's middle finger during her Super Bowl performance with Madonna of Give Me All Your Luvin'"), it was seen in all its glory. Fox quickly issued a statement distancing itself from Williams' digit. This also samples the strings from Barry White's 1977 hit, "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me." "Rock DJ" was used on the TV series Roswell in the 2001 episode "Heart of Mine." The Nevin's Future Ass Remix Edit was also featured in the 2001 movie Sweet November, starring Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves. This was the lead single from Williams' third solo album, Sing When You're Winning. It became his third #1 in the UK after "Millennium" and "She's the One"/"It's Only Us." "Rock DJ" was also the fifth best-selling song in the UK in 2000 and won British Single of the Year at the BRITs in 2001. The New Zealand pop star Lorde revealed that her 2021 comeback single "Solar Power" was inspired by this song. Speaking to Apple Music, Lorde explained: "I had my little Yamaha DX keyboard, and I just started singing and kind of figuring this thing out. I was like, 'What is this?' It almost felt like 'Rock DJ' to me, the Robbie Williams song. I was like, 'I don't know what's going on here, but I love it.'" Lorde even references "Rock DJ" in the lyrics when she sings, "Can I kick it? Yeah, I can." Source ; Songfacts.com Edited January 20, 20232 yr by Sydney11

March 20, 20232 yr Love this song but I think the lyrics are very sad. A man who doesn't want anyone to fall in love with him because he doesn't want to be tied down. Real interesting insight into where his headspace was at that time -just because he hadn't met the right person yet. He had to wait another six years for that. ^_^
April 4, 20232 yr TRIPPING Songfacts Robbie Williams described this song as a "mini gangster opera," citing the Guy Ritchie-directed mob movies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and snatch as the two main inspirations behind the lyrics. It appears to be written from the perspective of a novice gang member who feels out of his depth in such a brutal underworld, with Williams singing in the chorus: "I know it's coming, there's gonna be violence. I've taken as much as I'm willing to take." This song opens with the line: "First they ignore you, then laugh at you and hate you, then they fight you, then you win." This quote is frequently misattributed to Mahatma Gandhi. According to The Associated Press, it can actually be traced back to Nicholas Klein, a trade union activist, who said something similar during a speech in 1918: "First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. And then they attack you and want to burn you. And then they build monuments to you." "Tripping" was one of the first songs Williams wrote with Stephen Duffy after parting ways with his original collaborator, Guy Chambers. Chambers had helped pen some of Williams' most successful singles, including "Angels," "Rock DJ," and "Feel," but the pair fell out during the making of Williams' fifth album, Escapology. Consequently, Williams formed a new songwriting partnership with Duffy, who was previously a member of the British synth-pop band Duran Duran but left before Simon Le Bon and company made their breakthrough in the early '80s. The press frequently referred to "Tripping" as a "reggae song," although Williams disagreed with this categorization. The rolling rhythm, for example, owes a lot to the work of The Clash's Topper Headon. Williams also reaches for an extremely high falsetto in the chorus, as is often heard in disco music. Directed by Johan Renck, the music video for "Tripping" is based on the nightmares Williams was having at the time. Filmed over two days in Los Angeles, the video places Williams in a number of surreal scenarios. At one point, for example, he is seen running on the spot in what looks like an old hotel corridor. Later, a baby starts singing to him in the passenger seat of a Saab 95. For the recurring scene of Williams in bed, Renck shifted the room 90 degrees so the British singer was standing up as opposed to lying down. This makes it appear as though Williams is floating above the mattress. This was the first single released from Williams' sixth album, Intensive Care. It was issued as a double A-side along with "Make Me Pure," also from Intensive Care. "Tripping" peaked at #2 in the UK, where it was also the 19th best-selling single of 2005. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/robbie-williams/tripping g52Uh9wmqZg
April 5, 20232 yr It's such a cool song, I love it :music: cHbhu31RmzQ gngsfSnWWzs WJRKhMbtc64 RoRpJUqoPus Nice performance from Mexico The song became a worldwide success for Williams, debuting inside the top 10 in most countries around Europe, including number two in the United Kingdom, spending six weeks inside the top 10 and 15 weeks inside the top 75.[1] The single reached number one in Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands.[2][3][4] The song also reached number one on the Eurochart Hot 100,[5] becoming Europe's eighth-most-successful song of 2005.[6] In Switzerland, the single was certified Gold for shipments exceeding 20,000 units.[7] In Mexico, the song reached number nine and became the 11th most played track of the year.[8] In Australia, "Tripping" peaked at number seven and went on to sell over 35,000 copies, being certified Gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association.[9] Music video The video, which was directed by Johan Renck, features Robbie Williams running in place as if he can't seem to get anywhere. It appears that Williams is having a nightmare, in which he is living sometime in the 1950s, and is stuck running endlessly in a maze without ever advancing, or driving in a stereotypical 1950s backdrop. It also includes a baby singing to him some of the chorus, and a pair of lesbian twins in the backseat of his Saab 95. He also sees himself trapped in an elevator with a bigger guy in drag that proposed him to make out, he tries to defend himself but, at the end he allows him to be touched, and at that moment, Williams wakes up, smiles and close his eyes. April 19, 20232 yr GHOSTS - INTENSIVE CARE Songfacts®: Robbie Williams revealed on his website that "Ghosts" was inspired by the song "Louise" by the British electronic-pop outfit The Human League. "Louise" tells the story of a man who sees a former lover at a bus stop and realizes he still has feelings for her. "It's one of my all-time favorite tracks," said Williams. "I liked the idea of writing from Louise's point of view." Williams later covered "Louise" for his seventh album, Rudebox. This song appears to pay tribute to All Saints member Nicole Appleton, who was briefly engaged to Williams in the late '90s. The clue comes in the form of the line: "On the radio, she was that summer song." All Saints had a string of big hits in the UK, including the song "Pure Shores." Written for the Leonardo DiCaprio movie The Beach, it dominated the airwaves throughout the summer of 2000. Following her split from Williams, Appleton went on to marry Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. Before performing this song at a gig at The Roundhouse in London in October 2019, Williams explained that the infamous opening lyric was "written" by his bodyguard Duncan "Pompey" Wilkinson. While listening to "Majesty" by the Norwegian band Madrugada, Wilkinson misheard a line as, "Here I stand victorious, the only man who made you come." Williams liked this mondegreen so much, he decided to put it in his own song. Fans have debated the identity of "Josephine," referenced in the lyric: Josephine, I follow your star tonight If not tonight then when will she say We're not ghosts This is highly likely a reference to the Napoleon quote, "Not tonight, Joséphine." It's rumored Napoleon said this to his first wife, Empress Joséphine, to turn down sex. Nowadays, the phrase is often used as a humorous spurn. Williams wrote this song with Stephen Duffy after splitting with his long-term collaborator, Guy Chambers. Duffy was a founding member of Duran Duran but left before the British synth-pop band found success with "Girls On Film" in July 1981. He later founded the critically acclaimed folk outfit The Lilac Time prior to working with Williams on Intensive Care. Speaking about his time spent writing with Williams, Duffy said: "When you work with someone as big as Rob the music can be seen as secondary to the whole hoopla, but I'm very proud of that album – we came up with some absolutely bonkers songs and it went to #1." This is the opening song on Williams' sixth album, Intensive Care, which was released in October 2005. The album spawned three singles: "Tripping"/"Make Me Pure," "Advertising Space," and "Sin Sin Sin." According to Williams' record label EMI, Intensive Care has sold 6.2 million copies worldwide. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/robbie-williams/ghosts _CLr7QvX18Y Video thanks to https://www.youtube.com/@ChrisNaworocktsie Demo - Courtesy Robbie Williams Argentina zH6iVjmjrMo
April 24, 20232 yr KILLING ME P0kCkhigw2I There are some facts below on the song but not sure how accurate they are tbh , even makes me think they were talking about some other song  . I could not find a cover by any other artist anywhere In "Killing Me", Robbie Williams sings about being in a relationship that is slowly destroying him. He mentions that he doesn't mind the abuse that he endures from his partner, as it fills the time when he's feeling useless. But in reality, it's killing him softly, and he is slowly losing his mind. He feels restless and defenseless, and he can't take the words that his partner says any longer. However, there was time where he and his partner were okay, but slowly they have grown apart, and he now hates him. He doesn't know if he should continue pretending or just show his vulnerability and leave. Williams touches on the idea of his partner painting his picture black and making a joke out of him. He remembers the good times and wishes his partner would bring them back. He admits he feels blue and wishes he could smile like his partner. He acknowledges that he can't go on alone and that he just wants to belong somewhere. Overall, "Killing Me" is a poignant song about relationships that slowly deteriorate and leave people feeling trapped and helpless. Although it's a sad song at its core, it's easy to appreciate the emotions that Robbie Williams pours into the lyrics. Interesting facts about "Killing Me": ( Info courtesy of https://sonichits.com/video/Robbie_Williams/Killing_Me ) This song was released in 1997 as part of Robbie Williams' debut solo album "Life through a Lens". - Williams wrote the song with songwriter Guy Chambers, who he later went on to collaborate with frequently throughout his career. Despite not being a commercial hit, the song was widely praised by critics for its honest and emotional lyrics. - The title of the song was inspired by a quote from Clint Eastwood in the 1971 western movie Dirty Harry: "I know what you’re thinking: did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do you, punk?" There is a live version of the song on Williams' album "Live at Knebworth", which was recorded in 2003 during his massive outdoor concert. - Williams has stated in interviews that the song is about his ex-girlfriend, Anna Friel, who he dated in the late 90s. - The video for the song features footage of Williams and his band performing on a stage, intercut with abstract footage of pastel-colored paint swirling around. - The song has been covered by several artists, including Delta Goodrem and Aaron Tippin. - The chords for the song are Dm, Bb, F, C, Dm, Bb, F, Am. https://sonichits.com/video/Robbie_Williams/Killing_Me
April 25, 20232 yr BABY GIRL WINDOW Songfacts: This is a tribute to Robbie Williams' former girlfriend, the actress Samantha Beckinsale, and her father, the comic actor Richard Beckinsale, who died of a heart attack in his sleep at the age of 31. April 29, 20232 yr RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS ( INTENSIVE CARE 2005 ) Songfacts®: This song is about getting revenge on people who have wronged you. Robbie Williams explained in the documentary Making of Intensive Care: "It's about wishing people were not as sadistic as they are. And in conclusion, writing the song, I found out that I'm at least as sadistic as everybody else." "Random Acts of Kindness" finds Williams singing about his fascination with black magic, referencing the British occultist Aleister Crowley in the line: "And with Crowley on my mind, I should try being kind." Williams said of his interest at the time: "My mum and family were into the supernatural, myths, and legends – the stuff that makes our journey through life more interesting. In my teens and early 20s, I couldn't stay in my bedroom alone because I was scared of what was on the other side of the door – like the kid from The Sixth Sense. Because of that I wanted to tackle my deepest fears regarding that stuff. And the way to demystify it for me was to try black magic." The opening line, "For those about to die, we salute you" is a reference to the phrase Roman gladiators would reportedly say to their high rulers before fighting to the death in amphitheaters. The phrase was also alluded to by AC/DC in their song "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)." Williams wrote this song with Stephen Duffy, who was a founding member of both Duran Duran and The Lilac Time before working with Williams. Speaking about his time spent writing with Williams, Duffy revealed to Classic Pop: "It was an amazing opportunity to work with an artist who just didn't care. He didn't even want to call himself Robbie Williams at that point. It was just amazing fun. And I got to live in a Los Angeles penthouse for three years!" "Random Acts of Kindness" is a track on Williams' sixth album, Intensive Care. The cover art depicts a sigil on Williams' fingertip that was designed by Scottish artists Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. A practicing occultist, Morrison claimed in his book Supergods: Our World in the Age of the Superhero that the sigil could be "activated by finding the CD in the shops or pulling the cover up on-screen and pressing Rob's finger," adding: "If enough of us do this the world will most certainly enter a new Golden Age of peace, creativity, and prosperity!" https://www.songfacts.com/facts/robbie-will...cts-of-kindness h_JaGJpTofw LYRICS For those about to die We salute you For those of about to cry We love you For those of us who live in fear Of Happy Christmas and new year I raise a toast to you And if it hurts To be so blind Why don't you try Being kind They decided to become A little more romantic Creep up on you While you sleep I'll make you less attractive Born without a spine Why don't you try Being kind For those attempting their mother's way You'll find a way to soldier on For those whose love evaporates I pray you find where you belong All the words I have repressed Are coming out today I guess It is justice not respect and avarice And that just leaves contempt For you all Oh oh oh Yeah yeah Yeah I am just a simple man With simple expectations Deep regrets They're seldom met God speed my generation And with crown me on my mind I should try being kind For those about to die We salute you For those of about to cry We love you For those about to die We salute you For those of about to cry We love you Edited April 29, 20232 yr by Sydney11
