I wish we'd had a couple of recent sales updates to be able to know what Scared of the Dark's weekly average is.

 

All we know is that it's definitely sold more than 163,554 - that was When I Said Goodbye/Summer of Love's total in June 2009, but in August 2022 Scared of the Dark was above that single in their best sellers list (13th vs 14th place).

 

After the Love Has Gone was above Scared of the Dark in that list (12th place). That was already certified Silver in 1999 due to shipments, even though it hadn't sold that much at the time, or even by June 2009 (166,967). So we don't know how close After the Love Has Gone is to 200,000. If it has passed that mark we won't know about it because of it already being certified.

 

Stomp is 11th. That went silver quite a while ago, June 2018. In June 2009 its sales were 167,951, only 1k ahead of After the Love Has Gone. Presumably Stomp has much better weekly sales than After the Love Has Gone though.

 

Anyway, all of this could mean that Scared of the Dark is already very close to 200,000. I'm sure it'll go silver eventually, but I wish we had a better idea of when it's likely.

With general low streaming numbers for Steps it is likely to take some time.

Mid 2024 unless it's closer to 200,000 than we currently know.

I remember seeing someone post that it was on 170k sales back at the beginning of the WTFH era and I guess with ATLHG being above it that is likely to have sold over 170k by now with streams so it makes sense.

Even if it has higher numbers since then its still probably only slightly higher on so it will still take ages to get silver but hopefully it gets there sooner than we expect.

Wait, so did this roughly do 30k in two months? Or were previous sales off?

The estimate of 170k was off - but we didn't have much to go off!

 

In August 2022, OCC said that Scared of the Dark was their 13th best selling single, behind After the Love Has Gone in 12th spot. And the last sales we had for that were 166,967 in June 2009. So I think that's why 170k+ was assumed, taking into account that ATLHG was ahead of it and would have been higher than 167k. But now we know that both songs would have been way above 170k in August 2022.
