I came in to this tournament thinking Qatar would surprise people as their results were quite good. They are absolutely terrible.

Looks like most of the Qatari fans haven't bothered to come back for the second half, empty seats everywhere.

Senegal and Netherlands have nothing to worry about with these two teams.

So Qatar, basically the richest nation on earth, who have had 12 years to prepare and forge a competitive team, who once had Xavi managing a club team (the best player on the planet at one stage) , who have mutliple talented Spanish coaches for about a decade, play like that????

Qatar became the first host nation ever to lose their opening game of the World Cup.

Definitely not the result I was expecting!

It ended up being a really poor game that. It's a shame we we're robbed of a 30 minute Enner Valencia hat-trick, that would have been something special.

 

Qatar probably peaked too early in 2019 when they won the Asia Cup and gave a good account of themselves in the Copa America, coming back from 2-0 down to draw with Paraguay and only losing to Argentina 2-0.
