Just seen there was a second version of Burl Ives - Holly Jolly Christmas in the Spotify top 200 - combined that makes 28 songs on over 1 million. Sad to see The Pogues down in 15th and, worse still, 7 places below Wonderful Christmas Time, although there wasn't much between them.

 

Looking at the new entries, haven't heard of Winter Things or The Christmas Waltz, but I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas looks like one I should seek out, and Back Door Santa(?), also two Darlene Love songs but sadly neither are All Alone On Christmas, and did we really need more versions of SCICTT, IBTLALLC and Winter Wonderland. So long Heat Waves, we hardly knew ye </3

 

Just checked Amazon this morning and there's only one Christmas song left in the top 100 - 2000 Miles!

Amazed how many of the Christmas songs in the Top 200 I don’t know. There are even a couple in the Top 50 I hadn’t heard, the highest being Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives which is unsurprisingly more interesting than the Bublé version.

The Burl Ives track has entered the top 5 in the US for the past few years (and apparently may get a new peak of #3 this week leapfrogging "that old Jingle Bells Rock thing" as Bjork puts it). I'm not really a fan of his voice, I actually prefer the Bublé version. But it's a pretty meh song either way.

 

'I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas' is iconic. Hope it'll be joined in the top 200 next year by 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer' :D

 

Looking through the top 200 yesterday was definitely interesting - there were back to back Christina Aguilera songs (covers) at #122 & #123, who knew she even had Christmas music?

 

Also 2 versions of 'Somewhere In My Memory' in the top 200, maybe it could manage a second official top 100 week :thinking:

The Burt Ives song is an old US classic charting cos of the US-centric xmas playlists

Think its the 3rd most popular xmas song in the US after Mariah/Brenda

I feel like I think the same thing every year but I’m always pretty shocked at just how fast Christmas music falls. Especially on Boxing Day when most people are still off and some still doing Christmassy thing. Xmas music was quite significantly bigger on 1st December than 26th

There are a substantial number of people for whom Christmas is over after the 25th regardless of the technical definition. (Me included, although I don't really actively listen to Christmas music anyway)
