Also, I personally wouldn't count Janet Jackson's Got 'Til It's Gone as a direct cover version of Big Yellow Taxi, plus probably the same for any other samples you've got in the list. Although I do appreciate that Big Yellow Taxi would feature regardless of whether we include the Janet track or not.

yes agree sampling is not the same as covering

same fr Theme from S'Xpress, that's not a cover

Chicane-Offshore don't think that's a cover

I mean most dance songs use samples

but they're not covers, like all the Prodigy songs, Chemical Brothers etc are built around multiple samples

on. the other hand, Natalie Inbruglia-Torn is famous for being a cover, of a song that never charted, but still a cover

Thank you so much, you are completely right, two very different versions but no excuse for missing them.

Point taken but I have had to be subjective to a degree: too much of the song is obviously a cover of Joni Mitchell's original. I have not included other songs where the sampling is minimal.

No problem! I wish I could say I had scoured the list and used my encyclopaedic chart knowledge to instantly spot an issue, however in reality it was actually the only one I looked for

Well, I am going through the alphabetic master file systematically again and I have found 1 more already - you'll find the additions in the 700s, I put a letter after the ranking number...

Found another one! Don't Mess with My Man - Lucy Pearl 2000 / Booty Luv 2007 - see 734 above. I think I was having too good a time in the Naughties and Teenies...

Great list! 'Put Your Records On' is missing, original by Corinne Bailey Rae and cover by Ritt Momney.

Did you include Surf Mesa 'i love u' as a cover of 'Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You'?

^ Those cover versions didn't reach the Top 20, which this list is limited to.

Ride It - original by Jay Sean and cover by Regard (although it samples the original) should probably count.

I have moved the Corrs "Dreams" from 713 to 602, having discovered Dario G's version - the first cover - changed the name to Dream to Me...

Dream To Me was a cover of a different song called Dreams by The Cranberries, and was the only incarnation of that song to make the Top 20.

Ah! So the Corrs recorded 2 different songs called Dreams, one reached the Top 20 and was covered by Deep Dish; the other did not reach the Top 20 but was covered by Dario G as Dream To Me?

The Corrs / Deep Dish charted version is a cover of the classic Fleetwood Mac song which just missed the Top 20. Got it now, thanks!

^ No, the Corrs one is a cover of Fleetwod Mac's #24 hit Dreams which was sung by Stevie Nicks and therefore she was credited on the Deep Dish version - so you were originally right that the Corrs and Deep Dish ones were (covers of) the same song.

Dream To Me is a cover of The Cranberries' #27 hit Dreams which is a different song of the same title - so the Dario G version of it is the only one to reach the Top 20. EDIT: or so I thought, but I just remembered another version of that song called Dreams made the Top 20 for Ruti in 2018.

So it is in fact two different songs which made the Top 20 twice, but neither for the original version.

That has to be unique: two different covers of songs with the same title where the originals did not reach the Top 20 but the covers did - AND covers of the covers both made the Top 20 as well!!

Edits away...

And just to check: two other Top 20 songs titled Dreams by Gabrielle and Game are both different from themselves and those above?
