When the boy who would become Metro Boomin (Leland Tyler Wayne, born 1993) decided he was going to get serious about the rap thing, he intercepted his mother after work with a thick green folder—part dossier, part wish list, part five-year plan. Mom was impressed. He’d already been making beats for a few years, pestering A&Rs on Twitter, crowbarring some connections. He’d even gotten paid a few times. By the time he graduated from high school, he and Mom were making eight-hour-long car trips from St. Louis to Atlanta so Metro could work with Gucci Mane and OJ da Juiceman—contingent, of course, on him keeping his spot on the honor roll. A few months into his freshman year at Morehouse, it became clear that the balance was too tough to keep up. Mom chewed him out. But the work—glossy, atmospheric monsters that pushed trap to cinematic extremes—had too much traction to ignore. The green folder bore out. Future (“Mask Off,” “Low Life”), Migos (“Bad and Boujee”), Post Malone (“Congratulations”), 21 Savage (“Bank Account”), Kodak Black (“Tunnel Vision”): Just a sampling of what followed is some of the most definitive rap of the 2010s, tracks that—alongside the work of collaborators and fellow Atlantans Sonny Digital, Southside, TM88, and Zaytoven—reshaped hip-hop’s sound, feel, and culture. That Metro tackled longer-form projects—full-length collaborations, executive productions—not only made him unusually well-known for a producer, but suggested a broader vision, a transcending of the day-to-day business of beatmaking in favor of building a movement. There’s a good anecdote that Future recounted in an interview—about getting into an argument with a guy who was worried about one of the Atlanta rapper’s engineers. The engineer hadn’t left the studio in a week. Had he even eaten? Don’t worry, Future said—he himself hadn’t left in a week, either, and someone was bringing in Wendy’s from up the block. Barely a season goes by without new music from the rapper born Nayvadius Wilburn (in 1983)—whether it’s a mixtape, solo album, or collaborative project (with Drake, with Gucci Mane, with the producer Zaytoven). But prolific isn’t the half of it. Druggy, raw, slick, and surreal, Future’s sound—crystallized on highlights like 2014’s Honest, 2015’s DS2, and 2017’s HNDRXX—has helped redefine 2010s street rap as something strange and almost avant-garde: trap as modern psychedelia. Not that it isn’t melodic too. Like fellow Atlantan and collaborator Young Thug, Future has a way of bending his voice (often using Auto-Tune) into soulful, often sad shapes, half-rapped and half-sung—the sound of a crooner stuck in space. “The biggest thing is just being yourself all the time,” he told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in early 2017. “When you try and be yourself all the time, everyone’s not gonna like it. But you gotta wake up with that person. At the end of the day, you can be able to look at the person and be like, You know what, I know I’m being myself; I’m not being anyone else. Greeted with comparisons to young Michael Jackson and Usher, Chris Brown arrived in 2005 as a squeaky-clean pop-R&B artist with "Run It!," the first debut single by a male artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in over a decade. While there was nowhere to go but down, at least in terms of chart positions, the singer, dancer, and occasional rapper was only getting started. Within a few years, Brown became one of the biggest active pop stars with Chris Brown (2005) and Exclusive (2007), multi-platinum albums that produced five more Top Ten singles, including "Kiss Kiss" and "Forever." As a featured artist or duettist, he added to the count with hits such as "No Air," a ballad with Jordin Sparks. By the end of the decade, Brown underwent a stylistic makeover during which his forebears shifted to the likes of Jodeci, R. Kelly, and 2Pac. This, and a more drastic change in public image, did little to slow his commercial momentum. His streak of Top Ten albums was sustained with releases such as Graffiti (2009), the Grammy-winning F.A.M.E. (2011), and Fortune (2012). Biography

"The Plastic Ono Band is a conceptual band," said John Lennon to writer David Sheff in 1980. "There is no Plastic Ono Band. It's just an idea...there is no Plastic Ono Band like there is a Beatles or another group. That's why there's never the same musicians twice." While Lennon coined the phrase Plastic Ono Band on a whim, he stuck with the moniker through most of his solo career, applying it to whoever was backing him up at a given moment, and his wife and creative partner Yoko Ono also used the name, and continues to use it into the 21st century.

The Plastic Ono Band rubric made its debut with the release of John Lennon's single "Give Peace a Chance," which was recorded during Lennon and Ono's "Bed-In for Peace" in Montreal, Canada following their marriage in June of 1969. With a handful of well-known friends in attendance (and Tommy Smothers joining Lennon on acoustic guitar), the performance was captured on a portable recording rig and Lennon opted to release it under the name the Plastic Ono Band, inspired by a set of plastic music stands he was using. (One of Yoko Ono's compositions, "Remember Love," appeared on the flip side.) In September, Lennon and Ono performed at the Toronto Rock & Roll Revival Festival, where the couple's quickly assembled backing band (Eric Clapton on guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, and Alan White on drums) was again billed as the Plastic Ono Band, and their performance was released on the LP Live Peace in Toronto 1969. (An expanded version of the band from Live Peace in Toronto, including George Harrison, Delaney & Bonnie, and Bobby Keys, appeared at a UNICEF benefit in London the following December.) And Lennon would release a handful of singles under the Plastic Ono Band banner between 1969 and 1971, including "Cold Turkey," "Instant Karma," "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," and "Power to the People."

In December 1970, Lennon and Ono reminded the world the Plastic Ono Band was a joint project by simultaneously releasing John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band, two albums that were recorded with the same set of musicians during the same set of recording sessions. For the 1972 album Some Time in New York City, Lennon and Ono used the Plastic Ono Band moniker while also crediting Elephant's Memory, the New York-based band who were collaborating with the couple at the time, essentially giving the musicians two identities on one album. In 1973, Ono would release two more albums as Plastic Ono Band projects, Approximate Infinite Universe and Feeling the Space, while Lennon began playing with the band name in the '70s; 1973's Mind Games introduced the Plastic U.F.Ono Band, and 1974's Walls & Bridges featured a credit for the Plastic Ono Nuclear Band. When Lennon and Ono returned to the music scene in 1980 after several years away from the spotlight, they opted to simply use their given names, and the Plastic Ono Band label was retired until 2009, when Yoko Ono released her album Between My Head and the Sky as Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band (with Sean Lennon as part of the group). Ono used the same billing for 2013's Take Me to the Land of Hell, and she's used the moniker to credit her backing musicians at a number of live performances from 2009 onward. - Apple Music

Sam Smith

It’s hard to think of many artists in 21st-century pop who could match the vulnerability of Sam Smith. “I’ve never shied away from telling the truth in my music,” the singer told Apple Music in 2020. “Music is literally my best friend; it’s a release, a form of diary and therapy.”

Born in London in 1992 and raised in Cambridge, Smith first began gaining significant traction in 2012 with a pair of dance hits—Disclosure’s “Latch,” and Naughty Boy’s “La La La” the following year. They revealed that elastic falsetto, but didn’t quite hint at the sadness that would define the outrageous success to come. That arrived with 2014’s Grammy-winning In the Midnight Hour, an exquisite meditation on unrequited love, and its followup, the heartbreak-inspired The Thrill of It All. This second album saw Smith—by then an Oscar winner for 2015’s Bond theme “Writing’s on the Wall”—open up about instant fame and embrace their status as a gay role model, against a backdrop of stirring, gospel-infused balladry. It has always been clear that Smith’s power lies as much in that voice as in an unwavering bravery to put their innermost feelings—loneliness, confusion, desperation, desire—on full public view.

By the run-up to album three, however, Smith was also ready to have a little more fun. The aching melancholy of love, loss, and yearning for someone to spend their days with was still present, but this time, it was all being mined for invigorating music to help dance the blues away. That third LP should have arrived in early 2020 in the form of To Die For, but, amid the global pandemic, it was delayed, reworked, and renamed with the more sensitive title Love Goes. The album, Smith said ahead of its release, allowed them to heal after their first true breakup. But it also heralded freedom. “I felt at one point that I was going to be trapped onstage wearing a suit and singing ballads for the rest of my life,” said Smith. “When I look back at Love Goes, it reminds of the courage it took. A lot of my life, probably because of a lot of internalized queerphobia, and queerphobia around me, I felt ashamed of myself and not being able to fully be myself through my music. Kim Petras

Kim Petras has spawned an entire generation of bunheads (as her fanbase is called) with her brand of hook-heavy, hedonistic synth-pop. Born in Cologne, Germany in 1992, Petras had aspirations of international stardom from an early age, writing her first songs at 13 and inspired by pop stars like Britney Spears and Spice Girls. Though she released minor works in the late 2000s, it was 2017’s “Unlock It,” the singer’s attention-grabbing collaboration with scene queen Charli XCX, that served for many as a gateway into her world. Petras' Era 1 collection of endorphin-popping bangers, elevated by her virtuosic vocal range, solidified her status as pop music royalty. Songs like 2017’s sugar-baby anthem “‎I Don't Want It At All” and 2018’s criminally catchy “Heart to Break” showcased her singer/songwriter prowess through a neon glow of ‘80s-infused dance pop. An indie artist at heart, Petras has released the bulk of her work on her own BunHead Records imprint. Her official full-length debut, Clarity (2019), found her eschewing some of the blithe spirit of her early songs in favor of a greater vulnerability in songs like “Icy” and “Broken,” where materialism becomes an escape from the emotional void of heartbreak. The hyper-sexualized Slut Pop arrived in 2022. Slade are an English rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966. They rose to prominence during the glam rock era in the early 1970s, achieving 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number ones on the UK Singles Chart. The British Hit Singles & Albums names them the most successful British group of the 1970s based on sales of singles. They were the first act to have three singles enter the charts at number one; all six of the band's chart-toppers were penned by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. As of 2006, total UK sales stand at 6,520,171, and their best-selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody", has sold in excess of one million copies. According to the 1999 BBC documentary It's Slade, the band have sold over 50 million records worldwide.

Following an unsuccessful move to the U.S. in 1975, Slade's popularity in the UK waned, but was unexpectedly revived in 1980 when they were last-minute replacements for Ozzy Osbourne at the Reading Rock Festival. The band later acknowledged this to have been one of the highlights of their career. The original line-up split in 1992, but reformed later in the year as Slade II. The band have continued, with a number of line-up changes, to the present day. They have also shortened the group name back to Slade.

A number of artists from diverse genres have cited Slade as an influence, including Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Undertones, The Runaways, The Clash, Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Def Leppard, Twisted Sister, The Replacements, Cheap Trick, Oasis, Quiet Riot (who covered Slade songs for two of their three biggest hits) and Britny Fox. The Ronettes (/rɒˈnɛts/) were an American girl group from Spanish Harlem, New York. The group consisted of lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. They had sung together since they were teenagers, then known as "The Darling Sisters". Signed first by Colpix Records in 1961, they moved to Phil Spector's Philles Records in March 1963 and changed their name to "The Ronettes".

One of the most popular groups of the 1960s, the Ronettes placed nine songs on the Billboard Hot 100, five of which became Top 40 hits. Among their most famous songs are "Be My Baby", "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up" and "Walking in the Rain". In 1964, the group released their only studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica. That year, the Rolling Stones were their opening act when they toured the UK. The Ronettes opened for the Beatles on their 1966 US tour, becoming the only girl group to tour with them, before splitting up in 1967. In the 1970s, the group was briefly revived as Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes.

Their song "Be My Baby" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Rolling Stone ranked their album Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica No. 422 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. It's kind of odd no big stars have released more original Christmas songs and done a push for them - it's worked well for Elton/Ed as recent as last year and then Kelly/Leona/Ariana are doing well and basically means they will always have a hit and income. I wonder why.

Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti; June 7, 1917 – December 25, 1995) was an American singer, actor, and comedian. One of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century, Martin was nicknamed "The King of Cool". It didn’t take long for Michael Bublé to start getting the Sinatra comparisons. i've never fully liked any of the amazon exclusive christmas songs and after hearing this for the first time... its no exception. nothing special.

I quite like the Maisie Peters chtristmas song too, but i am praying it doesn't go top 40 because she has so many better songs and i can't cope with that one possibly being her top 40 breakthrough 😭 😭 😭
