May 23, 20233 yr Author Geraint Thomas says the racing has been "disappointing" in a weather-affected Giro d'Italia, but is braced for a brutal final week to Rome. He was resuscitated at the scene before being airlifted to hospital in Chur, but passed away on Friday morning. RIP Gino Mader :( Very shaken by this. I always rooted for Mader and was delighted for him when he got the white jersey at the Vuelta a few years back. I think it will take a white to sink in but what's happened is absolutely horrendous and my heart goes out to his family and team right now. Whilst there's always a risk of things like this happening, cyclist safety really needs to be put first. Hopefully this will put it right back at the forefront of organiser's minds. And I really hope Magnus Sheffield recovers as well.
