Posted January 6, 20232 yr Daughter are back with album 3 called Stereo Mind Game in April First song is out on Monday (Jan 11) and is called Be On Your Way cannot wait to listen, Elena wrote that the songs are more positive than their early stuff but with typical Elena lyrics so not full of sunshine :) It's been to long since their last album, think Not to Disappear was released in 2016, so 7 years now! This is what Elena wrote on their new website (ohdaughter.com) I am very happy to be writing to you again from our Daughter website. We have a new album coming out this April, it’s called "Stereo Mind Game". It has been in the making for a long time, pieced together delicately (obsessively maybe) over years, trying to make it as complete as it could ever feel. I think it’s more optimistic than our past records (but it still has my lyrics.. so.. it’s never going to be full sunshine) but I've tried to document experiences, thoughts, feelings, conversations and memories from my life, and hope that we've turned them into something listenable, something positive. I'm hopeful further that the lyrics might connect or feel familiar, and that this is in some way helpful or can bring a few minutes of joy or comfort. That would be wonderful. If you were hoping for a new song today, i’m afraid you might be disappointed. I’m sorry. The first song from our album will be coming out on Monday (9th January). It is called Be On Your Way and it is a story of love (of course), and of time, distance, missing and letting go. I have been trying to learn across the past few years to value the present moment more. I used to mourn the goodbye of a relationship before it had ended, and that created an overwhelming feeling of fear around loving someone. So i’m trying to be more accepting that things will last for the time they last for. To fully appreciate all the beautiful connections as they enter, and leave, my life. January 14, 20232 yr Well this is a gorgeous comeback single! Definitely needs some more attention. Did not realise it had been so long since their last album!
January 14, 20232 yr I don't know much about the band but this single is absolutely stunning. Instant fan!
January 15, 20232 yr Author If you guys don't know their old tracks, just posting some of my favourites first of course Youth, this is the quintessential Daughter song, everybody's favourite in the live shows, classic Elena lyrics with "collecting names of the lovers that went wrong" and the accusatory "and YOU CAUSED IT"!!! 2QT5eGHCJdE then there's Landfill, which was from their first EP, again genius love/hate lyrics, which is a constant in Elena's lyrics, with ("This is dangerous, cos I want you so much, but I hate your guts, I hate you") lLHmJOQLtnI also from an early EP but not on the album, Home is one of the highlights of the live shows, think this is the first song that I knew from them kNQASi28tIg and then there's Shallows, which closes their debut album, lyrics are beyond beautiful with the "come out to the sea, and just drown with me" PvTACYwZ5mY and to finish this off, their incredible cover of Get Lucky, released when the song wasn't that big either T5Cp55MvX54 Edited January 15, 20232 yr by Bjork
January 15, 20232 yr I know it was a soundtrack but Music From Before The Storm from 2017 is an incredible album and there were singles from it, so they haven't been absent for quite that long, although it's not that much more recent, and their version of Poke on Tiny Changes is up there with the greatest all time covers  A nice enough return on first listen, sure it will grow on me. January 15, 20232 yr Author oh yes Poke on Tiny Fractures was amazing too <3 I also love Elena's solo, in particular Romance
January 15, 20232 yr Well this is gorgeous  I don't know much from Daughter (minus 'Youth' as someone I was close to a long time ago was a big fan of that) but definitely need to check out more
January 19, 20232 yr Still can't get over how much I love this - I heard 'Youth' and 'Medicine' from them before and thought they were both good but they definitely didn't hit me anywhere near as hard as this has. The little 'pulses' in the instrumental (not sure if that's the right word x) are just goosebumps every time. 2 years in a row where a possible song of the year contender has dropped in early January following Let's Eat Grandma's 'Happy New Year' last year. (also kind of déjà vu to Wolf Alice's 'The Last Man On Earth', not that the song is particularly similar to that, but just in terms of an early year comeback that I've instantly loved from a band that I previously didn't really connect with that strongly. I can only hope this song is leading into a similarly fantastic album) edit: just realised I have their cover of 'Poke' in my Shuffle playlist too so I guess I was a fan of that too but I don't actually remember it that well oops, must revisit - I will have a listen to the other songs Bjork linked as well soon
January 19, 20232 yr Yeh love this sounds like The XX and Daughter could follow on as this years The Big Moon/Sunflower Bean/Wolf Alice act I’m in love with this year!
February 8, 20232 yr Author New single Party debuts later today KdgntP7Yp5o Edited February 9, 20232 yr by Bjork
February 8, 20232 yr Really? Don't think it sounds like The XX at all He didn’t say that Daughter sound like The xx! He said that they could follow them as his favourite band for the year.
February 22, 20232 yr It's not a song of the year contender like 'Be On Your Way' was but 'Party' is pretty wonderful too, lovely guitar tone and melancholic vibe. Really looking forward to this album.
April 12, 20232 yr Really liking the sound of the album on first listen! 'Neptune' is jumping out as my early favourite album track.
