39. Far East Movement featuring The Cataracs and Dev - Like A G6 222pts

Writers - Far East Movement, Dev

Top points - !!! 25, Daan 24, JackJones 24

From 2010, this was the first of three top 10 singles for Far East Movement. It was a chart topper in the US, making them the first Asian/American act to have a number 1 single there. G6 refers to a Gulfstream aeroplane.

This was one of five top 10 hits for Honeyz from 1998 to 2000. In 2015, the Official Charts Company chose it as the 'ultimate goodbye song'.

37. Madonna - Dress You Up 223pts

Writers - Andrea LaRusso, Peggy Stanziale

Top points - marcinjaro 25, Bjork 25, vibe 24

Both of Madonna's songs in this semi-final have gone out today but she still has three more to come in the second semi. Dress You Up was produced by Nile Rodgers who also played guitar. It has the same number of points and votes as End Of The Line so it wins the tie-break by having two 25 point scores, End Of The Line has just one.

36. Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing 223pts

Writers - Alesha Dixon, Brian Higgins, Miranda Cooper, Carla Marie Williams

Top points - detonate 24, jez1982 23, vibe 23

Alesha Dixon had been dropped by Polydor in 2007 but was offered a new deal by Asylum Records after winning Strictly Come Dancing and this was her first single with them. It wins a tie-break over Dress You Up by 19 votes to 16.

OMG 25, 24 and 23 rd out !!! In a row !!

They all seemed very popular in the votes!

The two Madonna songs are easily the best of that bunch, shame they didn't finish a bit higher, really hoping 'You'll See' will fare better in the other SF.
'Like A G6' was the only one of those I voted for and even then I'm not going to pretend I really care about it being out, it's a really dumb song but a fun nostalgic one x

Now I also start to get robbed. Planet Funk and Alesha 😪

‘The Boy Does Nothing’ is iconique for me. Brings back the best memories, and the lyrics are so stupid!

35. Donna Summer - MacArthur Park 231pts

Writer - Jimmy Webb

Top points - jez1982 25, Leonardo 25, Mark223 25

The original version of MacArthur Park by Richard Harris failed to make it past the first round of the number 4 poll last year. Donna Summer's disco cover from 1978 has gone one stage further. Produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, it was an American number 1.

34. Radiohead - Pyramid Song 234pts

Writers - Radiohead

Top points - dandy* 25, Jester 25, !!! 23, coi 23

With lyrics inspired by the Egyptian underworld, this was Radiohead's sixth top 10 single. The string parts were performed by the Orchestra of St John's in Dorchester Abbey which was about five miles from Radiohead's studio.

33. Feeder - Buck Rogers 234pts

Writers - Taka Hirose, Jon Lee, Grant Nicholas

Top points - Roba 24, coi 24, Liamski689 22

This was a big hit for the Welsh band after their first ten singles all failed to get any higher than number 20. The song was written for an American group called SR-71 but Feeder's producer and record company persuaded them to record it themselves after hearing the demo. It wins a tie-break over Pyramid Song by 18 votes to 14.

Writers - Paul Spencer, Scott Rosser, Stephen Spencer

Top points - Cow Cow 24, xajnipi 22, Campbell 22

This song can be traced back to the Netherlands where fans of FC Utrecht based a chant on the melody to the folk ballad 'Oh My Darling, Clementine'. It was picked up by fans of Sheffield Wednesday who had played them in a pre-season friendly and then by other football clubs. Dario G's recording was used for the 1998 World Cup in France.

31. The Patti Smith Group - Because The Night 254pts

Writers - Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith

Top points - chartjack2 25, JulianT 24, garyfeld 23

Bruce Springsteen had written the tune to Because The Night but wasn't happy with it so he agreed to give the song to Patti Smith who wrote the lyrics. It was the only top 40 hit for her group.

Because The Night is sublime. My 24 gone - quite surprised my 25 is still in but we’ll see if it’s gone the distance tomorrow.

Pyramid Song is also beautiful.

Gutted at both Radiohead and Feeder going out just there, love both of them! Pyramid Song is beautiful and Buck Rogers is a banger, was great to watch live too. Only one of my top seven is still in here (I did expect Dynoro, Foo Fighters, Far East Movement and Fall Out Boy to leave at this stage though), really hoping it's done enough to get through.
poor Dress You Up, was the best by miles and miles and miles
I already raved about Now 49 in Rich's 00s personal chart #1s thread and now I can extend that here with the appearance of the beautiful 'Pyramid Song'
Two bonafide indie anthems out in Feeder and Radiohead. 'Because The Night' is a big loss too, always rated that song even if I didn't manage to find space for it in my votes.

'Buck Rogers' and 'Pyramid Song' were two of the last ones I cut, the latter I'm just not familiar enough with (maybe if we do an album listenthrough for that album it'll click with me more x) but I did enjoy it when it popped up in the #1 albums sessions though not quite as much as a couple of their others that were played there!

'Because The Night' is pretty good as well, although tainted by the existence of a C*sc*da version tbh x
