January 31, 20232 yr The UK will be the only country in the developed world to fall in to recession this year.Β DISCUSS. Why is this? Government policies or circumstances beyond their control. *Whispers* Brexit.Β What do YOU think?Β Iβm not sure circumstances beyond the governmentβs control can even be considered or else wouldnβt the rest of Europe be in this position too?
January 31, 20232 yr Brexshit and a far right government. Now, who would hsve thought that this would happen ... who ... who ... certainly not you ...
January 31, 20232 yr The reality is it is not all Brexit, but a lot of it certainly is. The Brexit lovers will tell us all we are not ready to unlock our potential, but as a lot of people have been saying, Brexit is a fantasy and it causes way more problems than it solved and is 80% of the reason our economy has tanked.Β Suspect by the end of the decade there will be a serious movement for returning that won't be political suicide.
January 31, 20232 yr The Brexiters was always an uneasy coalition of capitalists on steroids who wanted to deregulate every rule and workers right and turns us into Singapore with a lot of targeted immigration old vs an ageing population who harked for some mythical old England where they can go on about Churchill and send all the "forriners" home. Β The right wing press/think tanks/politicians will scream that Brexit hasn't been done properly but the population will never allow it - Truss/Kwarteng's budget was their naked attempt and it failed miserably. Β In the meantime, apart from the few that profited hugely out of it including the venture capitalists, everyone is screwed especially the young. The country is a laughing stock globally.Β The most sinister part of it though is that the methods used to stir up support for Brexit, mainly online, has been used successfully for other country wars - especially against the LGB and particularly T communities. Grim.
January 31, 20232 yr Accodding to some Tpry donors, Blojo thought he could use Brexshit to turn the country into Singapore, with no NHS and no free education, etc!!! What an absolutely delusional POS!!!
February 1, 20232 yr seeing as how the Telegraph ran that yesterday Brexit is 'costing the UK economy Β£100bn a year', yeah...Β but more broadly it's the continual underinvestment in public services that widens wealth inequality and eventually that decreases average people's spending power, which makes money on average in the economy more inactive. Therefore, recession. Any competent government would figure that out but conservative ideology tends to preclude lawmakers from making competent economic decisions because of delusional economic beliefs related to individualism that don't translate well on macroeconomic scales.
February 1, 20232 yr Also nothing within the borders of this country is 'beyond the control' of the government. It might be beyond the control of their political capital, or they just don't want to do it, but the domestic economy is well within the range of being solvable.Β But it'd require them to find an alternative to 'there is no alternative' Thatcherism/austerity and the insane media environment that sees higher government spending as the devil when it is the only solution to the downward spiral that will keep happening if the UK doesn't invest in its infrastructure and society. The Tories will just never do that.
February 6, 20232 yr Itβs likely to be a mixture of factors including the impact of the war in Ukraine but Brexit is a big part of the problem and this is something the Tories donβt want to acknowledge for obvious reasons. Brexit has caused a massive shortage in labour and skills in certain areas resulting in higher prices and many businesses have faced substantial red tape resulting in difficulties trading within the EU resulting in also higher trading costs and lower taxable profits for businesses. I also read a report today that many universities have seen their research funding from the EU slashed virtually to nothing and numbers of EU students coming to study in the UK have plummeted since Brexit. All of this is bad news for the UK economy and cannot be blamed on the war in Ukraine like the Tories would like us to all believe.
