I also think this perhaps did well for week one when you consider Smile was four years ago now and this had higher sales despite a lower peak.

It’s done ok considering virtually no promotion of the album in the uk and backlash against the singles. It will most likely drop out the T75 this week though.

Katy Perry lands her sixth top 10-charting effort on the Billboard 200 as her new studio album 143 debuts at No. 6. The set earned 48,000 equivalent album units in the tracking week ending Sept. 26. Of that sum, album sales comprise 37,500 (her best sales week since 2017), SEA units comprise 10,000 (equaling 13.11 million streams of the album’s songs) and TEA units comprise 500. The album’s first-week sales were bolstered by its availability across eight vinyl variants (including a signed edition), four CD variants (including a signed edition), a cassette tape and multiple digital download variants (including two exclusive to her webstore, each with bonus tracks).

The album was preceded by a trio of songs, including its first single, “Woman’s World,’ which reached the top 30 on the Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay and Adult Contemporary radio charts.

143 was 5,000 sales behind #5, and 1,000 sales ahead of #7.

Im not surprised its not top 100, i thought maybe low top 100 today at the very best out outcome but i never thought it stood a chance to hold on officially for Friday.
Even Smile managed 4 weeks in the top 100, and with lower opening sales, can’t quite believe how much worse it’s gotten in just 4 years.
4 years is a lifetime in pop to be away for though, especially when your career is already in pretty bad shape and you're not exactly getting any younger.

I meant more the state of the charts in general  Every artist is having less longevity on the albums chart (besides the streaming behemoths obviously)

That is not exactly true - Gracie Abrams, Teddy Swims and Benson Boone for instance are doing great on album chart despite not having big hits beside a song or two.

They are fresh new artists and people are actually interested in their ALBUMS.

Those are anomalies, as there have always been. How many albums debut top 10 just to drop out of the top 100 (or 200) the next week? Even Kylie’s ‘Tension’ didn’t have the longevity of Golden and Dancing despite having her two biggest hits in over a decade.
