Mansun had 8 of these entries, no other act had more than 2.

And 1 LP actually made the Singles chart: Frank Sinatra's Songs for Swingin' Lovers in 1956 - unique!

Were those Journey and Leona Lewis ones really EPs? Never heard that before. I thought they were already dead as far as the singles charts was concerned by then.

Arctic Monkeys and Oasis would have both had top 5s with EPs in 2006 but due to a change in chart rules they had too many tracks to count towards the singles chart.

It was called Hurt the EP but only had 3 songs (Hurt, Iris, Colorblind)

But actually I'm sure there are more, just that they are not listed at the OCC website cos it's a messy website

Pretty sure Simple Minds-Belfast Child was an EP, actually called Ballad of the Streets

https://www.discogs.com/master/58566-Simple...-Of-The-Streets

Messy OCC, totally agree. They don't even correct obvious mistakes when you tell them. Buzzjack is much better, not least because of helpful corrections, additions, etc.

Re your comments and others above: it comes down to the definition of an EP - is it three songs, fours songs, more, the limit? I always thought an EP was 4 songs but record companies used their own definitions and, if it's advertised as "EP", those are the ones I've included, Leona Lewis for example. I suppose Robson & Jerome's 3-song efforts would then be classed in the same category but they were sold as "Singles". I'm happy to add some more to the list if that's the general opinion.

But if your definition of an EP is a 4 song single then there would be hundreds more. For example most of Oasis's CD singles consisted of the main single plus 3 extra tracks, so they would fit the loose definition of an EP. Interesting list though.

Not my definition (this time!) it's what I have assumed for the last 55 years: the list above is what the record companies have defined as EPs with their releases. I agree, it's not consistent and that aggravates my compulsively ordered mind.

Just a suggestion, would it be OK to include their peak position as well?

Why not? I'll try and do it later tonight...

For any list of EPs that appeared on the "Official" charts you need to mention that between 12th March 1960 and 2nd December 1967 Record Retailer (the publisher of the "Official" chart) had their own EP chart and so they did not make the main chart (though NME and Disc as well as Melody Maker from May 1963 did include them) and that's why there is no Twist and Shout (EP), The Rolling Stones (EP), The Dave Clark 5 EP, All My Loving EP to name just a few......

Good point and information, thank you. All part of the ever changing chart rules, albeit some necessary ones.

My understanding of an EP is that in theory all the tracks on it should be treated as equal A sides

But evidently labels didn't always follow this, sometimes using it just to show off that all the tracks were new/different.

The Nakasaki EP was a funny one because it was all remixes of the same song.

I have added the peak positions in the original post.

Point of interest: the average peak position for every title to have ever entered the Top 20 is No 9 and the average 1st week entry position has been No 13.

For the 75 EPs listed above, the average peak position is No 11, a significant difference: was it worth it?
