"We literally haven't been here in 100 years! It just feels so good to be back."

"We were rather excited at the airport weren't we?" the duo chuckle.

"We've always had such an insane following within the gay community… the love for us there. We absolutely jumped at the chance," notes Keisha.

After over two decades away, returning to Australia "feels like we're starting again in a way," Siobhán says.

"Because everyone's grown up with us. It's going to be so lovely to be out there and perform, meet everyone as well. We're hopefully going to go to a few afterparties."

The biggest bash of course is this Saturday (25 Feb), when the group headline the 10-hour Mardi Gras Party, Australia's biggest and longest-running LGBTQIA+ celebration.

"We went out for dinner and ran into a couple of fans [in Sydney]. They were saying the party goes on until about 3pm on Sunday.

"That's wonderful because we're not going to be coming off stage until half-past-three, four-o'clock in the morning, and then we can enjoy ourselves as well."

As much as they happily embrace the nostalgia, Sugababes are also here to show off their latest album, The Lost Tapes, released in December and made up of material the group recorded almost eight years ago.

"When we got to give it to our fans as Christmas gift, it felt like such a relief. Because we fought to get this album out."

"It feels really empowering for us because we also own the masters to that album.

"We worked super hard on it and the fact [our fans] can have it now and on all streaming platforms, sing it back to us; we can now add new music to the set! It just feels really, really great."

"I feel like we're giving back because we did our UK tour last year and so many people flew in from Australia.

"They were like, 'When are you coming to Australia?!' At that point we didn't know this opportunity was going to present itself, so it just feels so good come all this way to perform."

And what exactly happens backstage before a Sugababes show to get their collective heads in the game?

"It's all about the music and getting ready. We like to listen to music in the dressing room: a really nice, uplifting playlist.

"One of the guys in our band makes this amazing rum punch. So we all [drink] that and do a cheers up before we go out on stage… it gets your energy levels up."

Still filling out venues with adoring fans 25 years into their career, the significance of Sugababes' enduring popularity isn't lost on the group.

"It really is about a celebration of the whole history of this band and then looking to the future."

"It's an incredible opportunity for us, it's not lost on us, we're enjoying every minute and having the time of our lives."

Ahhhh yay! Always nice to see new press coverage of them. Good they’re attracting plenty of Aussie media

The actual interview (only Siobhan and Keisha - I assume Mutya went "fuk dis" lol):

LOL they started with one of my pet peeves... when people say "literally" then follow it with something not "literally" at all lol...
Siobhan pretty much confirmed she only has two "little ones" at home, but who knows what else she's been keeping away from us!
Great to hear the actual interview!!! But poor Brissy getting the snub from the list of dates 🥲
