I really agree with what Tommie said the other day in that this should've been on the album instead of 'To Have and Not to Hold'.

It’s a strong track but I don’t think I’d have swapped out anything from the album over this. Even Shanti / Ashtangi is pretty essential in terms of the full album experience even if I’d never listen to it as an individual track on its own.

 

Ray of Light in general was such a creative genius phase of her career though! It’s the one era of hers I’d literally pay to experience in real time but be the age I am now rather than being 3 when it was released :lol: I can only imagine the shock and hysteria that this era created amongst both die hard fans and the general public being back on board too :wub:

Yeah, I agree with this. I'm sure I read that Madonna did want it to be on the album but she wanted to keep the tracking list at 13 tracks as there was something significant about the number 13.

 

Just sneaks into the UK iTunes Top 100 at #100. I did think this would make more of an impression on iTunes, a bit like how 'Gambler' did, but I guess fans have preferred to just get the full EP.

Its a beautiful song but in no way should it replace anything on the album!

Yes agreed - it's nice and atmospheric but it isn't absolutely WOW or anything. It's always frustrated me a bit actually, I feel like the production could really build and build layering things throughout the song - if it did that then it could have been much better.

Nothing should replace To Have and Not to Hold :angry: The tracklist is perfect as it is and I agree that nothing should be removed from it :'(
