Posted April 5, 20232 yr The U2 results are here after 3 or 4 weeks of rating their charting 00's singles. We'll find out what has won over the coming days but speculate what could win for now. Will post the first couple in a bit ^_^
April 5, 20232 yr Author 16th : Get On Your Boots JcDNilZbZg8 Highest Pointer/s : Popchartfreak (08) Lowest Pointer/s : Tafty³³³, Roba (-1, -1) Average Score 3.0 So first out unsurprisingly is their lead single from 2009 'Get On Your Boots', released from the 12th studio album No Line On The Horizon, it peaked at #12 in February. It received two -1's and the highest overall was an 8 pointer. Personally this one was a naff comeback from them and it is quite baffling that they decided this was the song for them to start their new era off. Maybe the album wasn't that good overall, who knows but their follow ups were slightly better for me so...
April 5, 20232 yr Author Coincidentally enough I heard GOYB whilst I was in ASDA on Monday lol, "yay"!
April 5, 20232 yr Author 15th Ft Greenday - The Saints Are Coming PD_0fqvT32g Highest Pointer/s : Popchartfreak, awardinary (08, 08) Lowest Pointer/s : Jessie Where (01) Average Score : 4.83 Falling out 2nd to last we see one of two duet singles U2 put out in 2006 and it was near the end of the year when they joined forces with Greenday on 'The Saints Are Coming'. Funnily enough both of the featured artist songs of theirs peaked at 2 as well but unlike the other one still to come this one dropped very rapidly down the charts. You'd think a duet between these two would provide something a bit more top notch but sadly for a lot of people this fell low on their expectations really as it just comes across as something that sounds like it should be bigger than it is yet falls flat somewhere. Still I don't mind it necessarily but yeah could've worked to sound better really.
April 5, 20232 yr Get On Your Boots fully deserved last place. Quite surprised The Saints Are Coming is that low, not that I’m a fan. A shame that it’s Green Day’s only Top 2 hit - it feels like it ought to have been much better than it was.
April 5, 20232 yr No sad loss to those. Get On Your Boots is a bit lame really and The Saints Are Coming blocked the better saints related song from peaking at No.2 (Rock Steady, All Saints).
April 5, 20232 yr Author and poxy Westlife were #1 that week as well :drama: Turns out 'The Saints Are Coming' is an cover of a 1978 post punk band *. Didn't know that lol.
April 5, 20232 yr Author 14th All Because Of You iJidOOmAl8c Highest Pointer/s : Riser (7.5) Lowest Pointer/s : Tafty³³³, Roba (02) Average Score : 4.9 Released as the 4th single from their 2004 album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb it's 'All Because Of You' that slips first. Originally charting in early 05 under a import it reached 51 before getting the official single treatment and reaching 4 in October. Not a lot to say about this one, forgettable and uninteresting.
April 5, 20232 yr I didn't think 'Get On Your Boots' was terribly awful, but it showed how they'd really lost their way and were a spent force by that point. 'The Saints Are Coming' however really is dire. All Saints should've been the #1 that week over the two in front!
April 5, 20232 yr Even watching paint dry is more exciting than 'All Because of You'. What a whimper to end that era on when 'Miracle Drug' was right there!
April 6, 20232 yr Author 'Rock Steady' was a great return. Would have loved that out of what was above them. Mediocre top 2 that week!
April 6, 20232 yr Author 13th Magnificent q5StJhm5tv0 Highest Pointer/s : Riser (9.5) Lowest Pointer/s : Jessie Where, dandy* (03) Average Score : 5.0 The second release from their 2009 output 'Magnificent' is next out. This one didn't pick up many high points at all outside of Jordan who gave it the highest with 9.5 and Popchart next with 8 points. It was fine enough and an improvement on GOYB but also pretty medicore and also you have to consider the fact that they called this song 'Magnificent'.. when it didn't live up and was anything but that lmao, of course two members will disagree with that though
April 6, 20232 yr Just catching up now. Not too surprised with the results so far. I wouldn’t say any of these deserved much higher, maybe The Saints Are Coming but other than that not acting for others. Nobody getting on their boots to support that song in a hurry then!
April 6, 20232 yr Author Also fun fact with 'Magnificent'. It was the band's first single to miss the top 40 since 'In God's Country' all the way back in 1987! No surprise considering this era really went off the mark but still an impressive run for them for over two decades up till that point.
April 6, 20232 yr Author 12th I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight 4q_AHAMVQ9c Highest Pointer/s : Popchartfreak, Riser, chartjack2, Chapman (07) Lowest Pointer/s : dandy* (03) Average Score : 5.36 and that's all of the 2009 singles out and not managing to make the top 10, 'I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight' was the 3rd single from No Line On The Horizon. It fared better than the single before it and peaked at 32 before crashing out completely, clearly helped by some format release or something as it'd have no doubt be another one that missed if so. The video to this one is animated.. Collecting four 7 pointers from 4 members which no doubt helped it come in even at 12th here. It's again a pretty unremarkable effort from them but still their best performing from this era here.
April 6, 20232 yr Get On Your Boots pretty much killed that era I reckon. Hopefully a certain song won’t be walking on into the Top 10.
April 6, 20232 yr Get On Your Boots pretty much killed that era I reckon. Hopefully a certain song won’t be walking on into the Top 10. I'm hoping the song in question will be stuck in a position outside the top 10, and it can't get out of it.
April 6, 20232 yr Author 11th Windows In The Skies qXbWfq0JE9M Highest Pointer/s : Popchartfreak, chartjack2 (09) Lowest Pointer/s : Jessie Where (02) Average Score : 5.66 Unlucky 11th goes to 'Windows In The Skies' which made the top 5 in Jan 2007 peaking at 4 and falling away pretty quickly. It did however top the Italian, Dutch and Canadian charts. This was a decent ish effort from them and received two 9's with the lowest being 2. The video features Cultural Depictions of famous stars such as Elvis, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones among others.
