Posted May 7, 20232 yr As part of creating my own S Club website, I've compiled a list of every solo each member of S Club 7 has received in a song. I figured it could be a really fun countdown and potentially quite surprising too! To start with, a couple of clarifications: - Only solos count. Singing as part of the group is not a solo, obviously! - I have not counted adlibs as these are not specific solos. The only exception is Jo in Alive, who contributes a notable part of the song through numerous adlibs. - To compile a fair list, I have divided the total number of solos by the total number of songs that member was a part of. This is particularly so Paul is not at a disadvantage, but I've also included S Club 3's Family so it levels it for the others too. - Single versions are not included separately, with the sole exception of You, which features new solos from Jon and Bradley compared to the album version. Of course, the winner is obvious, but no spoilers please! Feel free to speculate though - who will be out first, proportionally speaking? :o
May 8, 20232 yr Really looking forward to this. I’m not the best at picking out vocals so this will be a big help for me. :)
May 8, 20232 yr Author 07 Hannah 8 solos in 73 songs, 11% Poor Hannah! Present for the entire run of the main band, she received a solo in just eight songs, three of which featured the entire band. On both Sunshine and Seeing Double, Hannah led Dance Dance Dance and Hey Kitty Kitty respectively, and was at the forefront of '7' album track Stand By You with Tina. One of my favourite Hannah moments is b-side We Can Work It Out, which is the only time she shares the limelight with Rachel! Of course, what Hannah lacked in solos, she more than made up for in the TV show, undoubtedly being one of the most competent actors in the group from the start of Miami 7. Hannah has a solo in... Bring It All Back Dance Dance Dance Hey Kitty Kitty Our Time Has Come Say Goodbye Stand By You We Can Work It Out Who Do You Think You Are?
May 8, 20232 yr Wow at Hannah only having a solo in 2 of S Club's 13 singles. Surely even Posh and Lee from Steps had more than that?!?!
May 8, 20232 yr Wow at Hannah only having a solo in 2 of S Club's 13 singles. Surely even Posh and Lee from Steps had more than that?!?! Jay, job for you!!
May 8, 20232 yr Poor Hanna, I didn’t realise it was so few. Still it’s great to have a list so I (we) can appreciate her!
May 9, 20232 yr Author 06 Tina 11 solos in 74 songs, 15% Even away from S Club 3 track Family, Tina manages two extra solos than Hannah. They're pretty much neck-and-neck, with the same two singles featuring in the list below, and, for the most part, one song per era. However, what Tina lacked in the debut era was made up for in the '7' era, with Tina leading I'll Be There and also joining Hannah for Stand By You. In fact, Tina gains a couple from assisting Hannah, with Hey Kitty Kitty being another example! Tina also had two lead tracks in the Seeing Double era, though one highlight, Discotek, was relegated to b-side status. Like Hannah with acting though, Tina made up for the lack of solos with her dancing ability, introduced in the TV series as being the band's choreographer (seen primarily in Miami and LA 7 but also referenced later in Hollywood 7 after manager Dean Strickland hires a new choreographer for the band). Tina has a solo in... Bring It All Back Discotek Family Hey Kitty Kitty I'll Be There Our Time Has Come Say Goodbye Secret Love Stand By You Stronger Who Do You Think You Are?
May 10, 20232 yr Tina deserved a solo in every S Club 7 song, let's be real xx In all seriousness though I do think she was undervalued, she really shines on many of the above songs!
May 10, 20232 yr Author 05 Paul 8 solos in 53 songs, 15% Their percentages round to the same figure, but Paul's actually ahead of Tina without a tiebreak (specifically 14.86486486% vs 15.09433962%!). In his time in the group, Paul had solos in eight songs, though only one was a single! Very under utilised :( That said, he matches Hannah's total of 8 despite being in the group for less time. Paul took centre stage on album tracks Good Times and Love Train, and was a significant part of breezy bop Summertime Feeling, which was definitely single-worthy in my view. Paul's part of Reach is a definite highlight, as well as his adlibs over the final chorus *.* Paul has a solo in... Anytime, Anywhere Everybody Get Pumped Good Times I'll Be There Love Train Our Time Has Come Reach Summertime Feeling
May 10, 20232 yr Somehow that feels surprising! I didn't realise Paul had so few solo moments. Maybe it's because his parts in Reach (honestly one of the stand moments in the entire catalogue), and Love Train, are so memorable, that it feels like his contributions are larger than they were in actuality :o
May 11, 20232 yr Author 04 Rachel 19 solos in 73 songs, 26% Now for a shock!! The number of solos jumps drastically, but Rachel ends up firmly in the middle of the pack. Rachel can be heard on four of the group's singles as well as notable album tracks including Show Me Your Colours and I Really Miss You. It's actually the '7' era where Rachel is done dirty, though. Natural is her only moment on the album, and the b-sides aren't much better with just Perfect Christmas added! Of course, Rachel had the last laugh with the most illustrious solo career, and an ongoing legacy in some circles due to cult favourite album Come and Get It. Rachel has a solo in... Anytime, Anywhere Boy Like You Bring It All Back Do It Till We Drop Everybody Get Pumped Everybody Wants Ya Gangsta Love I Really Miss You It's Alright Natural Our Time Has Come Perfect Christmas Say Goodbye Show Me Your Colours The Greatest We Can Work It Out Who Do You Think You Are? You You (Single Version)
May 12, 20232 yr Oh wow I would never have predicted Rachel behind Jon! :o I never quite realised how many members of the group didn’t have solo moments on numerous singles. I wonder if that bothered them at all? Only 4 singles for Rachel feels odd!
May 12, 20232 yr Author 03 Jon 19 solos in 73 songs, 26% Jon actually matches Rachel's total which called for a tiebreak. The only way I could think to fairly separate them is that Jon has solos on 19 unique songs, whereas You counted twice for Rachel due to the album and single versions both counting. It's only fair that Jon places higher therefore. This was a very surprising outcome to me! Jon has solos on three singles (Reach, You, Say Goodbye), but really shines on the group's b-sides. What Jon lacked in solos on the '7' album was made up for with two b-sides in the form of Someday, Someway and If It's Love, while he also took the lead on You's b-side The Long & Winding Road and Say Goodbye's b-side Special Kind of Something, both covers. Jon has a solo in... Bring the House Down Can You Feel the Love Tonight Cross My Heart Down At Club S Gonna Change the World Hello Friend If It's Love In Too Deep It's Alright Our Time Has Come Rain Reach Say Goodbye Someday, Someway Special Kind of Something Sunshine The Long and Winding Road Who Do You Think You Are? You (Single Version)
May 13, 20232 yr King of the B Sides!! I really never would have guessed he'd be the group's third highest contributor. Good for him!
May 13, 20232 yr Author 02 Bradley 28 solos in 74 songs, 38% A big jump up to the top 2 now and we're out of the surprise territory here. Bradley was easily the most prominent male vocalist in the group, and it's not difficult to hear why with such a great voice. Bradley has a solo on five of the group's singles, including Don't Stop Movin' most notably. While Jon and Rachel were done dirty by the '7' era, that's where Bradley really racked up the solos, appearing on 7 of the album's 14 songs, directly matching Jo which says a lot! Bradley also has a short solo on S Club 3's Family, which I've included in this countdown. Bradley has a solo in... Alive All in Love Is Fair Anytime, Anywhere Best Friend Cross My Heart Dance Do It Till We Drop Don't Stop Movin' Down At Club S Family Friday Night Gonna Change the World Hope for the Future I Will Find You I'll Keep Waiting It's Alright Lately Let Me Sleep Our Time Has Come Rain Reach Right Guy Say Goodbye So Right Spiritual Love Summertime Feeling Who Do You Think You Are?
