October 2, 20231 yr Poor Mae - the media will be out for her as a Eurovision/career flop, and I doubt her label will be keen to continue backing if it doesn’t recover (which as we know is almost an impossibility).
October 2, 20231 yr I feel for her as everyone will have expected more due to the platform she's had this year but I don't think a Mae Muller album was ever going to be a raging success, whatever the circumstance. If anything, Eurovision will probably help her to achieve a top 75 album that she wouldn't have otherwise had. Gen Z British artists like Mae tend to do well with individual songs over time and have slow burn but eventually quite impressive streaming numbers - she has 4.8 million listeners on Spotify which is actually almost triple what Sam Ryder has. I guess you've got the likes of Maisie Peters, Beabadoobee and dodie who have had big (albeit one week wonder) albums, but many Gen Z streaming friendly artists that release albums don't even trouble the top 75. Almost all of them 4.8 million listeners would be from Better Days I'd imagine without her involvement in that she would probably be under 1 million
October 2, 20231 yr To be fair... that is what I expected. James Blake debuted at #30 in the Monday midweeks last week though and he charted outside the top 100 so I think this could easily happen for Mae. I'd expect Mae will hold better than James Blake - his album was released 2 weeks earlier on streaming/download so the midweek entry last week was just the belated physical release and very minimal 3rd week streams. Still, probably quite likely to drop to the lower end of the top 100. I think Rich is right, a Mae Muller album was simply never going to be a major prospect for the chart no matter what, it probably wouldn't even have made the midweek chart without Eurovision.
October 2, 20231 yr Almost all of them 4.8 million listeners would be from Better Days I'd imagine without her involvement in that she would probably be under 1 million True, the dance features have helped her but some of her other songs have streamed quite well on Spotify - 20 million streams for I Wrote A Song is better than most of our Eurovision entries (Sam excepted), and a few of her earlier singles have solid streams like Therapist (21 million) - she's not done badly for herself with her own songs. Certainly as well as many of her contemporaries. It seems to me that artists like Mae tend to do better with singles - often over a long period of time rather than big concentrated sales - than albums for whatever reason. I tend to think of artists like Slayyyter last week, big and well known online, do pretty well on streaming, but her album was never going to do anything commercially in week one. Mae has had a lot more expectation on her than other similar artists due to Eurovision, which is probably to be expected after Måneskin and Sam's successes, but this kind of Gen Z Spotify pop style of music and artist just so rarely sells albums. October 2, 20231 yr It's a shame as she really deserves a lot more, the songs are just absolute diabolical and the lyrics even worse. There is absolutely no market for her with this output
October 2, 20231 yr Realistically, Mae's team invested heavily in her Eurovision participation, hoping to boost her career after the contest. Her album sales were destined to be low. Her fanbase is small, her tour was cancelled and her signing venues were downsized. The British public embraces success, as evidenced by Sam Ryder and the Women's World Cup, but they perceive Mae to have let the country down. The success of Sam may have lured Mae's team, but they should have been more realistic after she finished 25th. The label's marketing costs will surely exceed her album sales. October 2, 20231 yr Ahhh such a shame as I actually thought the the album was pretty decent! :nocheer: Have just bought the cassette bundle to help out. She's also doing personalised copies that are shipping tomorrow, hope that can help at least a tiny bit?
October 2, 20231 yr She is doing a Rita Ora and telling everyone she’s #19 atm and hopes to get top 10.
October 2, 20231 yr She is doing a Rita Ora and telling everyone she’s #19 atm and hopes to get top 10. Why the lies  Surely it’s better to say I’m #33 and gonna tank if you lot don’t buy and stream!
October 2, 20231 yr With 1,180 sales :drama: If these are the sales so far, I reckon she will end the week at between 1,700 to 1,800. Streaming won’t add basically anything as it’s so low and I feel like most of the rest of the sales this week will come from the signed copies about to get sent out tomorrow. If she does that kind of number it would have reached somewhere between #75 - #90 on last weeks album chart. That is what I’m expecting now.
October 2, 20231 yr Why the lies  Surely it’s better to say I’m #33 and gonna tank if you lot don’t buy and stream! I think the most likely scenario is someone in her team has lied to her and she hasn't looked herself. Or they've told her the sales chart position or something?
October 2, 20231 yr Album sales are so poor in general to the point she gas currently sold the same amount of number of people who went to my school.
October 2, 20231 yr Banquet personally signed being done tomorrow - have no idea of the impact of these but could add 100+? https://www.banquetrecords.com/mae-muller/s...ZuBnIm881Qj5D-Y
October 2, 20231 yr Cassettes down to a fiver on her store... I think I'll do my bit to help her out.
October 2, 20231 yr Cassettes down to a fiver on her store... I think I'll do my bit to help her out. Same - I ordered a signed CD from Banquet and the 3 x cassette bundle from her store
October 2, 20231 yr Jeez that’s bad, was hoping she’d at least be safe for a Top 40 i thought the same.
October 3, 20231 yr So I've listened to this now and sadly only liked Nervous (In A Good Way) and Miss America enough of the new songs to add to my playlist. There's some very solid singles on there and I'd probably take away a very good 6/7 track EP from it - I Wrote A Song, Me Myself & I, MTJL, Written By A Woman, the two I mentioned and maybe Sorry Daniel. But it's padded out so much.
