'Take Me Home' was the debut single from Sophie Ellis-Bextor's debut studio album 'Read My Lips'. This would go on and peak at #2 in the UK. Which I didn't know this until featuring in this series that was a cover of Cher's 1979 song. It would be Five's 'Let's Dance' that would keep this off the #1 spot. This is an decent debut single from Sophie Ellis-Bextor. I would welcome this getting an revival thanks to it featuring at an last scene of an film in the future a la 'Murder On The Dancefloor' did.

2003- Stacie Orrico- Stuck

'Stuck' was the lead single of Stacie Orrico's self-titled second album. It would be her debut single in the UK This would go on and peak at #9 in the UK her highest charting single to date, it would climb up in the second week which was something of a rarity between 2000-2004 before downloads were included in the UK chart. This will be one featured in the #156 of our Year to End Survivor series. This is all right from Stacie Orrico, not one that I can recall hearing when it came out at the time.

2003- Robbie Williams- Something Beautiful

'Something Beautiful' was the third single from Robbie Williams' fifth studio album 'Escapology'. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK. The music video for this is something of an parody of an certain talent show called 'Pop Idol', it's interesting to say the least. This may be one of Robbie's underrated songs in my view but I can see why people might not like this. This was one that I listened to during the summer of 2003.

That Reading Festival Performance:

'School's Out was the third single to be released by American duo Daphne & Celeste, this was their cover of the 1972 song by Alice Cooper. This version from Daphne & Celeste would go on and peak at #12 in the UK one place behind 'The Real Slim Shady' by Eminem a day later the reason I mention this was the incident at the Reading Festival after Eminem droppoed out of the festival. Celeste wore a "Who the F*** is Eminem?" T-shirt. Unfortunately their performance at the Reading Festival would become notorious because of the hostile crowd and Daphne & Celeste having objects thrown at them. This version of 'School's Out' isn't for me, perhaps they should have released this on the week the summer holidays started. I much prefer the Alice Cooper version.

2000- Melanie C- I Turn To You

'I Turn To You' was the fourth single from Melanie C's debut solo album 'Northern Star'. This would go on and peak at #1 in the UK becoming Melanie C's second UK #1, this would be quite significant for her as she became the first woman to top the UK Charts as a solo artist, duo with her collaboration with the late Lisa "Lefteye" Lopes and quintet, quartet as part of the Spice Girls. This is one that I don't really hear that much now, but this is an decent tune from Melanie C.

2004- V- Can You Feel It

'Can You Feel It' was part of an double A-side with 'Hip To Hip' which part of V's debut album 'You Stood Up'. Te double A-side would peak a t#5 in the UK, the album would peak it the dizzy heights of #86 in the UK charts. This is an cover of the 1981 single from The Jacksons. This version however from V, leaves a lot to be desired.

The dancey Hex Hector single mix of 'I Turn To You' is great! Melanie C's material in 2000 is my favourite solo Spice work overall.

Inspired by the recent roman numerals chat in the chart forum... a group called V covering the Jackson 5 (albeit under the Jacksons name at this point) is satisfying.

Poor Daphne & Celeste getting bottled cannot say their hits do much for me either, although a more mature comeback song 'You And I Alone' was decent in BJSC about a decade ago.

Poor D&C but the songs were obviously cringe and in front of metal heads 😆

'Music' was the lead single from Madonna's eighth studio album of the same title. This would go on and peak at #1 in the UK becoming Madonna's tenth UK #1, it would be at #1 for one week, in the US this would also peak at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 where it stay at #1 for four weeks. In the music video this would feature an appearance from Ali G. One that I don't hear that much, but it's an blooming great tune from Madonna.

'Eternal Flame' was the lead single from the reissue of Atomic Kitten's debut studio album 'Right Now'. This was the first single to feature band member Jenny Frost. This was an cover of the 1989 song from The Bangles. This would go on and peak at #1 in the UK becoming Atomic Kitten's second UK #1 single where it would stay there for two weeks. This version from Atomic Kitten is an all right cover version far better than an version which be warned is on there is of Frank from the 'London's Burning' singing it in the final epsiode of 'London's Burning'.

2009- Calvin Harris- Ready For The Weekend

'Ready For The Weekend' was the second single from Calvin Harris' second studio album of the same name. This would go on and peak at #3 in the UK, this could feature uncredited vocals from Mary Pearce. This was one that was on the playlist during the summer of 2009, it's one that I don't really hear much now. This was one of Calvin Harris' underrated songs in my view might be in the minority who would probably think that.

'Pretty Green Eyes' was the debut single for Ultrabeat which was an cover which I don't know until doing this series from 1997 from Force & Styles ft Junior. This version from Ultrabeat would go on and peak at #2 in the UK. This remains an dance classic.

2007- Freaks- The Creeps (Get On The Dancefloor)

The Creeps (Get On The Dancefloor) was the only song from British electric dance duo Freaks. This was originally released in 2004 where it would peak at #97. Three years later an new version "The Creeps (Get on The Dancefloor) would go on to have success with this where it would peak at '9 in the UK. This is one taht I'm not that familiar with, can't really recall this, sorry.

2008- Steve Mac- Paddy's Revenge

'Paddy's Revenge' was the debut single from house music producer Steve Mac. This would go on and peak at #17 in the UK. This is one that I vaguely remember from the year.

'Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of' was the second single from U2's tenth studio album 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'. This would go on and peak at #2 in the UK, it would be Atomic Kitten's 'Whole Again' that would stop this from going to #1. This did chart in the US at #52 in the Billboard Hot 100. This is one that I don't really recall that well from U2 when it was released at the time. It's no 'Beautiful Day' but this is all right from U2.

2005- Ashlee Simpson- La La

TOTP Saturday Performance:

'La La' was the second UK single to be released from Ashlee Simpson's debut album 'Autobiography'. This would go on and peak at #11 in the UK. In the US this would peak at #86 in the Billboard Hot 100. Again this isn't one that I'm very familiar with from Ashlee Simpson.

'Destroy Rock N Roll' was the second single from Mylo's debut album of the same name. This would go on and peak at #15 in the UK.

2001- Basement Jaxx- Romeo

'Romeo' was the first single from Basement Jaxx's second studio album 'Rooty'. The lead vocals in this was Kele Le Ruc with Corryne Dwyer singing the background vocals. This would go on and peak at #6 in the UK. This is an fantastic tune from Basement Jaxx, one of the great dance hits from the 2000s. This was sampled last year by PinkPantheress on 'Girl Like Me'.

2008- McFly- One For The Radio

'One For The Radio' was the first single from McFly's fourth studio album Radio:Active. This would go on and peak at #2 in the UK, where it would only stay in the Top 40 for two weeks with an drop of 19 places to #21 the following week. This is one from McFly that I quite liked at the time, I can remember being a bit gutted that this missed out on the #1 spot to the disgraced Dizzee Rascal collaboration.

Love how much Basement Jaxx influence PinkPantheress, with 'Girl Like Me' borrowing from their 'Romeo' as you mentioned and also her own 'Romeo' sampling their 'Good Luck'.

Be warned, this may not be an popular choice. but it is 'Amazed' from American country group Lonestar. This would go on and peak at #21 in the UK where unusually in that time, it would spend 17 week in the Top 40 without it climbing to the Top 20. In the US this would peak at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100. It's one of the songs that will probably be played at most weddings, that's if people request that song to the DJ. There was an cover version from Blue's Duncan James which was due to get an UK release but that was cancelled.

'Freestyler' was the debut UK single from Finnish group Bomfunk MC's. This would go on and peak at #2 in the UK, missing out on the #1 spot by '7 Days' from Craig David. This would come 65th in my Top 100 Songs of the 2000s which I did back in 2015. It would also come 8th in my Top 40 (2000) which I did on this forum last year. I can remember being quite gutted when this missed out on the #1 spot when it was released, this is one of the songs of 2000 for me. Everything about this is just brilliant, one that I couldn't tire of.

'Fire Wire' was the second UK single to be released by German trance duo Cosmic Gate. This would go on and peak at #9 in the UK, becoming their most successful song in the UK to date. One I wasn't that familiar with beforehand. Hearing it now, I quite like this.

I must warn you, this is an massive cheeseball. This was the debut single from UK band Fast Food Rockers who decided that we needed an song that has an chorus containing McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut. This would somehow end up peaking at #2 in the UK. Well it managed an #2 peak and an month later there was an DJ Otzi version and an festive version. It happened, thankfully 'Bring Me To Life' stopped this from going to #1.

2003- Daniel Bedingfield- Never Gonna Leave Your Side

'Never Gonna Leave Your Side' was the fifth single from Daniel Bedingfield's first album 'Gotta Get thru This'. This would go on and peak at #1 in the UK becoming his third and final UK #1, it would stay there for one week where it was knocked off the #1 spot by 'Breathe' by Blu Cantrell ft Sean Paul. This is one that I can remember being on the radio quite a bit during the summer, it's an UK #1 that I wouldn't have on my playlist but far better than the song above.

This I would say this is an dance classic from the 2000s, I remember this song seemed to be everywhere during the summer of 2006. This borrowed the chorus from Maggie Reilly's song of the same title.
