#7 Love’s got a hold on my heart (7.88)

• Director: Dani Jacobs

• Location: Cannes/Nice (France)

• Released: July 1999

• YouTube views: 4.453.000

With a difference of 0.05 points (from our previous video) we have Love’s got a hold on my heart at #7 in our countdown. The music video for the song was shot in Cannes in the South of France. Dani Jacobs directed the video for this one. The main plot sees the group chase a man who has stolen the film reel for the fictitious "Steps: The Movie", interspersed with clips of the band performing the dance routine on a jetty dressed in yellow outfits. At the moment the video has almost 4.5 million views on YouTube.

I’m happy this video got this high! Yes, it’s far from perfect and those yellow outfits..no! Other then that I really enjoy the happy and summery vibe of this one. Camp as t.. so a classic Steps video if you ask me. It got votes between a six and ten and ends up with a 7.88 as it’s average score.

The best part about this song is the video.

#6 One for sorrow (7.90)

• Director: David Amphlett

• Locations: Laka Garda, Italy

• Released: August 1998

• YouTube views: 1.500.000

Just missing out on a top 5 spot is the original video for One for sorrow. While Lee and Faye stroll through the woods, and H and Lisa frolic in a field, Claire is left alone to lament her loneliness. The music video features an iconic performance in front of a field of sunflowers. There was actually no concrete concept for the video when they began shooting One for sorrow. As the director explains: ‘I think Vicky had a concept to go somewhere on location… and a lot of it was done on the hoof’. ‘We had chosen where to shoot, which was in northern Italy, and we had some vignettes but not specific places for them’.

I think the video deserved a higher placing if you ask me. It’s such a classic Steps video and I have great memories when I see it  The voting for this video was decisive! It received votes between a 4 and 10 ending with a 7.9 as it’s average score.

#5 Chain reaction (8.00)

• Director: Patrick Kiely

• Locations: Greenwich Hospital (England)

• Released: September 2001

• YouTube views: 9.201.000

Just piping in at #5 (with a difference of 0.1 points with #6) we have their video for Chain reaction. At the beginning H gets rushed to hospital with a broken heart where he is attended to by some scantily dressed nurses. The band is then transported to an ethereal world with blue panels representing clouds. Director Patrick Kiely told in an interview : ‘I don’t know if they died or… I think it was maybe like they just transported to another world’.

Another lovely video they made. It looks fresh and it gave them another big hit at the time. The votes for this video were quite steady, between a 7 and 9 ending with a lovely 8.00 as it’s average score.
